WC 2010 Results: England Get Booked

Carlton ColeDavid Beckham

Hope you were able to catch some of the World Cup qualifiers last night. We’re thrilled that England has shaken off the ghosts of Euro 2008 by booking themselves a place in the WC 2010 with a win against Croatia, 5-1.

Carlton Cole (above) and Didier Drogba celebrated with a night out at Whisky Mist in London, where he partied with Usain Bolt (no word on if they also compared biceps) and David Beckham quickly returned to jet-set mode, heading back to Los Angeles.

England may be through, but some of staple teams on the World Cup hit list like Portugal, Argentina and France have yet to sort out a spot in the final team sheet. Can’t imagine the competition without them.

Who have you been rooting for and how are you coping?

David Beckham on that shirt :D !

  2. MissU Paolo says:

It’s looking good for the US but I don’t want to jinx us. I am most nervous for Portugal. At age 32 and injury prone, this just might be Deco’s last shot. I can’t imagine a WC w/o Portugal, Argentina or France but here we are on the brink of it. Wow.

  3. Lynx says:

I hope Germany wins this time :)

  4. I’m going to be rooting for Spain and Argentina(if they qualify). But it won’t be much of a World Cup without Portugal, Argentina and France.

omg ‘mrs aaron ramsey (‘pool fan)’!

thought it was the only one crushing on aaron ramsey!!

  6. kaya says:

I have to admit to a bit of schadenfreude before the Euro 08 because I often think the english team think too highly of themselves. Good for them finally being whipped into shape by Capello!
I’m mainly concerned about the US… and they’re driving me crazy. I think our coach is woefully one-dimensional in tactics.
Does anybody know of any links to watch replays of the Mexico v Honduras game? Espn360.com is hit and miss for the US team games, but those are the only CONCACAF games they have.

  7. Fer_Lahm says:

Congrats, but I only want that Mexico wins the WC, thing that will never happen but I keep dreaming that it will happen.

  8. tammyv says:

USA….that is all that matters to me

  9. mrs aaron ramsey ('pool fan) says:

i’m rooting for spain, holland and demark so far so good but argentina and my wittle messi…….. :( i wanna cry for that and my muffin insua will never get his dream *crys and wails hysterically*

  10. Ella says:

I’m rooting for the US and England. But I also love Turkey. And I would be VERY disappointed if Portugal and France didn’t qualify.

  11. Ba G says:

WC 2010 wouldn´t be so special without Portugal, France and Argentina. It’s not over yet but i wish so much that theses teams will get book too as Spain and England. I’m from Portugal and i think my team was so great and now it’s a holy crap, mainly C.Ronaldo…he is not doing anything for help the team “QUINAS!

    • melissa says:

I actually tend to think this WC would be super special without those powerhouses… mostly because it gives some other teams a chance to win. I think Spain, Brazil, or possibly England will take it in the end, but not having those teams will allow for some randoms to get through to group round and have a little glory. Maybe the USA….

  12. FootballerChick43-"Mrs.Ballack" says:

Am rooting for Germany. And will have less of a panic attack after the Russia match.

  13. Dutch says:

Am happy cos both Holland and England have qualified well done boys….and its even better that spain and usa have qualified as well….that means i can lust after plenty of hotties nxt summer yummy ;-)

  14. aristeia says:

The 4 time winners of the WC and current champions haven’t qualified yet, that’s kind of a big deal. Although, they’re in a much better position than say… Argentina (which is a damn shame, poor Argies). After last night’s performance I feel much better about things. *practices breathing exercises*

  15. Ira says:

    I’m Croatian…and I’m totally disappointed with our game last night… :/
    BUT….it’s NOT OVER YET!!! <3 Croatia <3

  16. Venice says:

Congratulations to England on a well deserved win and perfect qualifiers. They are not the same team from two years ago, and sadly neither are we. That’s football, what can you do – the highs are very high and the lows are very low. Last night’s match was a presentation of power by the currently better team. Unfortunately only 2 or 3 players from my team showed up. But there’s no use in pointing fingers now.

I’m coping surprisingly well actually. The scoreline is nasty, and it could’ve been worse, but it happens, much bigger teams have taken even worse beatings. At least we got beaten by another top 10 team.

In the end the aftermath is not so bad. We finally got a bit lucky in these qualifiers, many thanks to Belarus that held back Ukraine, who now have a very difficult task of having to beat England if they want to get ahead of us. We do depend on someone else, but realistically we stand more chance than Ukraine.

Team morale is weak at the moment, but we have time to regroup and reorganize which will I believe be enough to beat Kazakhstan, and it can only go up from that moment on.

USA, Spain, England…. And I’m coping just fine thanks ;)
