Michael Ballack & Fernando Torres: Rainy Day Pout Parade

Images via Getty/Zimbio.

These boys may not like the rain, but we sure do.

Aside from wet weather making a footy kit much more interesting, it also seems to make players get pouty. This then dries out their bottom lips. Eventually they’re dehydrated and thirst sets in, leading to loose tongues looking for free H20 refills.

No, this is not a stretch of reality, this is factual…ish. Regardless, footballers + tongues always = contentment. Just ask Bojan.

Thanks M!

Question, somewhat related: DOES it actually rain all the time in England, or is that a misconception, British Kickettes? I'm curious. I'm thinking about relocating there.

  21. ninochka says:

    Yeah, ballack. What a man.
What is it about women that they always have to swarm around recently successful teams (like Spain for the last two years) and players like flies around sh*t?
The Spanish players are hailed and treated like Gods while noone would give a flying cake about them if it weren’t for their success.
Are you really supporting football or your superficial antics?

    • Caitlin says:

Wow – don't sit on the fence! Tell us how you really feel. :-)

    • Mrs Puyol says:

So, what are you saying? That we shouldn´t give the best team in the world so much attention? A team that has never won the WC before, and has players that play spectacular, positive football? OK.

    • JulieFromParis says:

Yeah and You don’t want to bottle up your feelings like that, let it all out girl!! There might be a couple of people fifty miles away who didn’t hear you :)

      • Tania says:

Well, just because Torres seems to be getting more love than Ballack in the comments, the Spanish NT needs to get dissed like that?

If you lust after Ballack, that is totally ok, but judging other women on their crushes and fave teams just because they are not your cup of tea doesn't seem too nice. Or judging the current European and World champions because they seem to have a huge female fan base that you are obviously not a part of.

As a Spaniard, I feel very proud of La Roja and what they have achieved after so many years of great expectations followed by huge disappointments; I find them a great team made of very talented and likable players and the fact that my NT is very much liked by the ladies here at Kickette makes me even prouder of them. So there.

        • Rossanera says:

I could not have said it better myself.

Heartbreaks aside, La Furia have long been one of the most talented side, man-for-man, in international football. Spain has gifted the world some of the greatest athletes to ever grace the pitch. Raul is but one example. Does the fact that, yes, by fortunate coincidence, these boys all happen to be (to quote from Zoolander) really, really ridiculously good-looking necessarily have to detract from that?

The Spaniards have waited YEARS for this level of "recent" success at something which forms a massive part of their culture, and it's well-deserved.

July 9, 2006 – the night gli Azzurri lifted the World Cup for the Italian Republic for the fourth time (but the first in my lifetime) was, and remains, one of the greatest nights of my life. Everyone deserves to feel that kind of euphoria at least once in their lifetime.

VIVA ESPANA. VIVA LA FURIA ROJA.

          • Tania says:

            Thanks, Rossanera!

          • littlegirl says:

                  • Leya says:

I don't mean to jump into your conversation (of which I am so jealous because I wish I could speak Italian) but just curious:

How many languages DO you speak Rossanera? :)

                    • Rossanera says:

I speak three. I'm Italian (so I speak Italian), but I grew up in Montreal, Quebec (aka French Canada, thus I also speak French), but have completed the majority of my schooling in English. I know a little bit of Spanish because many of my closest friends are Hispanic, but my knowledge in this regard is very, very limited. I also used to be able to speak German but I've lost that over the years …

                • Rossanera says:

Littlegirl, I tried to send you a private msg but I can’t find your profile. Can you get in touch with me somehow?

                  • littlegirl says:

      • Tania says:

Désolée, Julie, I wanted to reply to ninochka's comment and I accidentally posted under your comment… :(

    • DebS says:

You're kidding right? Look at the level of talent that Spain has put out. Spain plays beautiful football. It doesn't hurt that their men are hot either.

I've thought Ballack was hot ever since I first saw him in the 2006 WC. He looked especially hot standing in the tunnel at the 2010 WC at the end of one of the matches. Also, if you hang around here much, you will see that men from many different countries/teams are represented here. So stop hating on us and the Spaniards.

There are others from different nationalities too. But most of all, I LOVE watching well played football and I'd watch it even if I didn't find many or any of the guys on the team cute/hot.

      • Rossanera says:

Amen. There’s a critical difference between “football fans who are girls” and “fangirls.”

        • neenyah says:

Sigh! I don't even get why we have to be separated by gender. I'm a football fan. Period.

But now that you mentioned fangirls (the negative type): http://philosofooty.afootballreport.com/post/9595… Pretty good read.

          • Rossanera says:

I've read that too – it's where I learned the word "fangirl".

            • Dee says:

I was just on one of the offside blogs and read comments by a fangirl. I had to count to like 100 and have my friend Tina talk me out of commenting. Why? I was about to go off and say “This crap right here is why I will ALWAYS regardless of what sport I like get called a bunny.” The only other reason I stopped myself is because I also have started talking to the blog owner and I truly respect the guy.

          • Lisa says:

that was a great read. The author reminds me a lot of myself. Fangirls, however annoying they may be, are just as important as "real fans" in making football the world's most popular sport. We are truly blessed to have the most attractive athletes of any sport there is. Stop arguing amongst yourselves and just enjoy that fact.

            • Rossanera says:

Excellent point. The fact that the men of the beautiful game actually tend to be beautiful is the icing on the already delectable treat that is football/futbol/calcio/soccer … and everyone has their preferences in flavor, but who doesn't like cake?

              • Emme says:

Totally agree! I love the game & the hotness of the players is just an added bonus! I love American football even though there is an embargo on nudity in American sports & many of the players (speaking to you offensive/defensive linemen) are not exactly the type you want to see sans shirt. ;) So it's just not the players, it's the game.

        • Dee says:

I totally agree with that assessment.

    • Lisa says:

comments like this reinforce every negative stereotype about female football fans.

Sure it helps if players we like (as footballers) are really good looking but personally, talent plays a huge part in how much I like a baller.

I have never understood the obsession with David Beckham. If as you imply, he wasn't good looking, would he be as famous as he is? I know now that Kickette would not exist as a website if it wasn't for Becks.

The England NT also has not won anything for 44 years yet their players are featured all over worldwide football media, not just Kickette. The Golden Generation was the worst thing to happen to English football.

Until 2008 the Spanish NT may not have won anything but for decades but Spanish football has always been at the forefront thanks to Barca and Real (in that order… wink wink haha)

Notice the irony about your own "Ballack, what a man" comment. What do you mean by that? Aren't you noticing Ballack for the same reason other Kickettes notice Spanish players?

    • Zlatanista says:

I´m with Lisa, you really are on shaky ground when you call women on this site superficial at the same time as you make a comment like that on Micha.

The very reason why most girls here rave on about the spanish boys are their football skills. As you yourself pointed out it´s because of their fantastic achivements during the past years. Because we know good football when we see it. And they deserve to be noticed and hailed.

And if God in his infinte wisdom gave these men looks to match their talent, then so be it. Just enjoy, the football and the men :)

    • neenyah says:

Wow… Can you read what you just typed? Especially your first and last lines? They are contradicting each other! Also, you don't have to hate on a team just because they're popular (and for a well-deserved reason!). That's kinda shallow…

    • Dee says:

At first, I was going to stay above the fray. The more I think about it, however, I won't. As a female sports fan for more than half my life thanks to an older brother who got me instead of the younger brother he'd been wanting, I've had to deal with this crap constantly. Wow, I'm a chick who loves hockey – I must be a puck bunny. No. I can actually quote stats and hold my own in a debate with my male friends over hockey [trades, player history, team history etc]. I also have been a baseball fan since my first game on my tenth birthday. I've had cops stop me to ask me if I lust after Derek Jeter. [I'm not blind, but he's never been "my boy".] Again, I can quote stats and hold my own in debate there too.

My father came from Italy and as a kid I can remember trying to watch the game of the week with him on the Italian channel. I say try because I'm sadly not fluent in Italian [although I can curse like an Italian sailor]. 1994 changed all that because of the World Cup. I got to see the US and Italy and I loved it. Same thing happened in 2006. It is possible to be a fan of the game and have footie lust. That doesn't make me any less of a fan though. I love the game first and that is what should matter.

      • Lisa says:

Dee you are my hero. I have a younger brother. Makes no difference. He too pulls the same chauvinist crap all male sports fans do.

My brother's a nice guy but when it comes to football, I find myself constantly saying "I cannot believe I share the same DNA as this idiot".

Did your brother actually tell you he wanted a younger brother instead? If he did I will fly to America, drive to your house and slap him myself.

        • Dee says:

Actually, my brother said he would have liked a brother but is glad he has me…he tells his friends he liked having me around to mold. He's actually a great brother but I will deny ever saying it. Have to keep him honest. Although the 94 World Cup is a sore spot for him…I got to see Italy vs Norway instead of him.

Sadly enough, all the chauvinistic crap is from every male I meet that doesn't know me. I usually surprise the hell out of them in debates or by my creative heckling skills.

          • neenyah says:

“Sadly enough, all the chauvinistic crap is from every male I meet that doesn’t know me. I usually surprise the hell out of them in debates or by my creative heckling skills.” —- PREACH!!! One of my favorite feelings of all time is that ‘pride’ you get when you prove these men wrong and see that initial “You-only-like-football-coz-of-the-men” smirk melt off their faces.

            • Dee says:

Exactly. I love when they ask “How do you know that?” One guy even asked me “Did you buy the Team Yearbook for the pictures?” I say I did it for the articles…like why he buys Playboy. My brother covered his face and later asked me why if he was drinking, why my mouth was being shot off?

              • DebS says:

—> I say I did it for the articles…like why he buys Playboy.

                Priceless! Great comeback! lol

                • Dee says:

I just had to say it. My brother was like "Please don't make me get into a fight with this guy" but the buttmunch actually backed off. I think he expected me to do something "girly" instead of talking back.

  22. littlegirl says:

WAIT WAIT WAIT!my two favourite players, in the same post, pouty under the rain…o my God!!!!my heart can’t resist…you want to kill me!!!
i knew that the time would come: i have to choose…how can i decide???

  24. rubyqueen says:

oh my poor nando when is everything gonna get better for him and for liverpool football team.??i’m praying he finds his amazing form again.:)he’s still looking good though.mmmmmm.:)

  25. Dahlia says:

    Nando??
Are you ever gonna come back?
Not a Liverpool fan here, but someone telling me that you’re on a 59 match GOAL-LESS streak? that can’t be true! Is that even possible? I am being punked right??
    :o
His armband proved he was a red,
    Torres Torres
You’ll nevet walk alone it said,
    Torres Torres
We bought the land from sunny Spain,
He gets the ball he scores again,
    Fernando Torres Liverpool’s No.9…
    :)
Yes! not a Liverpool fan, but love this guy enough to know the TORRES BOUNCE by heart <3

    • Dahlia says:

      *lad
      :)

      So, disappointed after yesterday's performance…

      Can never support Man C.

    • DebS says:

I wondered what the heck they were talking about on Twitter…about bumping the Torres Bounce. I didn't realize that's what they called his Liverpool song.

  26. cymraeg_ddraig says:

Best thing about this country. The rain. Dwi’n cariad glaw :)

  27. Elina says:

I love watching football when it is raining!! The players look hotter and hotter!!

    • Dee says:

Ah yes, Rain. There was enough yesterday in NY. Too bad none of the European teams were hear. Would have made my birthday the highlight of my life.

  28. VeNia says:

who knew Nando would make me love him even more!?!?!

  29. Zahara says:

Fernando!mi amor!how ive missed seeing you in that glorious liv*pool shirt!dont you worry bout nasty man city beating you, zahara is here to make you all happy again :-)

  30. JV says:

I always feel bad for ogling the married players, but the way that jersey is molded to Fernando's body is just so hot. Why must he be so adorable?!

    • alexandraa says:

I feel the same way!! But don't worry about it, you don't see any of us Nando-loving Kickettes holding back! :D

    • Emme says:

Me too! I find that it kind of kills the fantasy! There should be some FIFA rule about ballers not being able to get married until after they retire. They all get married so young!

  31. Caitlin says:

I think they are both looking rather fine, but if I had to choose it would have to be Nando…sorry Michael!

  32. Missy Manchester says:

THAT is the BEST photo I've ever seen of The Nando.

  33. Goosie says:

Clearly Michael Ballack needs some love in these comments.

Michael, don't worry. You're my one true footy love.

  34. Rossanera says:

Have you guys seen this yet? It's what he should tell his critics.

    http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b66/ignaiad/2ym…

    (nicked from ONTD Football).

    • Mrs Puyol says:

He obviously knows a bit of english :)

    • Malena says:

      oh wow, that looks sexy!

      • Rossanera says:

I know, right? It’s nice to see the usually-sweet Nando get a little angry … Fernando getting feisty … OLE !!!

    • julia says:

thanks for sharing…. he is just SOOOOO hot… omg.

    • Zinny says:

Oooh! I like Sassy Nando! I wish there were audio, though. I would listen to that man read the dictionary. Mmmm.

    • Rossanera says:

Wait, ladies … this one (courtesy of F*ck Yeah, Fernando Torres) might be better: http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l7bmf7U8JM1qcuysj.gif

Oh, Nando. Without you, I’d be SUCH a diligent student.

      • Rossanera says:

I lie. I’m SO over this whole law school thing. F*CK THIS SH*T! Where can I sign-up to be a WAG-In-Training? I think I’d be good at that.

        • Sher says:

Yes! My friend and I (both SO over grad school) had this exact conversation not two weeks ago. WAG-in-training is such a better plan.

And if I fail out, I'm totally blaming him & all the other hot footballers for distracting me when I should've been writing papers…

          • Rossanera says:

… and on that note, here's another reason to procrastinate.

            http://fuckyeahfernando-torres.tumblr.com/post/10…

            • DebS says:

              That is HILARIOUS!!!!

            • ASM says:

LMAO..gosh i swear i forgot how to breathe..this is damn hilar HAHA..::rolling on the floor laughing::

            • Zlatanista says:

That is sooo funny!! And Sergio wanting to be in with the guys! Genius!

            • Tania says:

LOL!! This just made my WEEK! Hilarious!!!! Mille grazie, bella! :)

              • Rossanera says:

Prego, bellina! Pregunta: are you Spanish, or Italian, or both, or do you just speak Italian, or just know how to say "mille grazie"?

                • Tania says:

I’m was born in South America, where my parents where raised; but all my ancestors (my knowledge only goes up to my great grandparents) where born in Spain and this is where I live since I was four, so I consider myself a Spaniard with a bit of Uruguayan.
I used to speak enough Italian to hold a conversation, but sadly I’ve lost most of it over the years. Still able to go a bit further than “mille grazie”, but not much :( . Am fluent in English, French and German though…!

                  • Tania says:

                    *I was born… Typo…

                  • Rossanera says:

Actually, my mother’s family is originally Spanish too! Going wayyy back though, so I have like almost not attachment/understanding of my Spanish roots. We’re from Cadiz, in Andalusia. Thus, the Ramos is my homeboy ;)

                    • Tania says:

I've just been to Cádiz once, but I loved it!! Hope to go back soon! Have you ever been to Spain?

I'm from the Northwest, by the way.

          • AngelDust says:

Girl, I stayed up until three last night trying to write a paper because I procrastinated for about two hours reading this site.

            Haha, love you Kickette

          • Rossanera says:

Yup. The fantasy world I’ve created for myself (in which there is actually a very real possibility that I will one day be the next Senora Fernando Torres) is so much more appealing to me than the real world (in which I have to read, oh, let’s see, another 100 pages of evidence and criminal procedure and then another 75 pages of gibberish on how to draft a licensing agreement by 9 am tomorrow).

Note that I keep coming back to this page at intervals of exactly 15 minutes … Kickette: the most effective procrastination tool since the invention of television.

What are you studying? I wish I had gone to grad school. Maybe then I’d be learning something interesting.

    • Lorihanna,Morales Torres says:

Lol, obviously our faviourate BOY is getting a little too fiesty! :P
aw he looks so SEXY when he’s angry bless him :D

    • Nando_Lover09 says:

      WOW ! <3
      Good job Nando ! Ahahaha

  35. gin_in_teacups says:

Footie in the rain. Bless the English weather.

  36. Leya says:

Oh Fern, that poor poor boy.

It breaks my heart to watch Liverpool play only bc its often fraught with commentary like "Fernando Torres has really just had a poor half/has been in poor form/looks terrible/should be subbed."

    Ouch.

But I love him anyway…especially with his shorter darker hair getting wet in the rain, he looks less like a drowned rat that with the long blond locks…

    just sayin'

    • Rossanera says:

Really? I liked his luscious blond locks so much better. He had what I call "soccer-player hair" … a la vintage Maldini.

      • Leya says:

no, the long blond locks, were out of control…his face is too beautiful for all that long hair overwhelming it…

although, my all-time fave is ‘Nando SHORT and BLONDE alla WC2006…love at first sight!

it takes a special kind of man to rock some long hair…i’m lookin’ at you Sergio Ramos…

    • Steph says:

Oh, I know. Everyone knows the guy wasn't playing his best, cause of his injury and all, and almost every comment about him was basically that. Like, they didn't say anything else about him other than that. Poor guy. :(

But yeah, he does look good in the rain. haha. And I'm loving his hair now. It totally works for him. :D

    • gin_in_teacups says:

I always feel so bad for him when that happens. Especially yesterday when, let's face it, none of the team was playing up to their potential. Yet every comment was Torres looks sluggish, Torres can't seem to make anything happen etc. Note to commentators, he's not the only one out there.

I also wonder if he was so keen to go in as a starter, trying to prove himself, that they played him even though he's not totally match fit yet.

      • DebS says:

Personally, I thought Ngog played worse than Torres…and the passing? atrocious! It's hard for Torres to "play well" if they don't get him the ball. Oh yeah, and maintaining possession of the ball would have helped too. I definitely think Joe Cole would have made a big difference. Oh, I do have to give props to Joe Hart..brilliant saves.

That being said, I did think Torres looked better in first game. I think at this point, getting his confidence back will help too. I think he feels he has to atone for the WC, although, seriously dude, you can't expect to be ready in such a short time after that kind of surgery. Give yourself a break! :)

Oh, and wait….no comment about the rain accentuating Ballack's bulge or Torres short tent (at least I don't think it's just a wrinkle in the shorts?)? :p

        • gin_in_teacups says:

Oh I was missing Cole something fierce. Yeah, everything you said, basically. Everyone looked a mess, they couldn't keep possession – sigh… I don't want to relive the pain. And I definitely have a sense that he's feeling pressure to perform after those injuries and an underwhelming World Cup. It would be so much better to wait until he's absolutely ready to go in as a starter.

Haha – I noticed te Ballack bulge. I thought I'd be ladylike and not mention. But of course this is Kickette, I don't even know why such a urge would come over me.

      • Tania says:

Well, I didn’t watch the game, but I know he was heavily critiziced during the WC, which made me very sad for him and I agree that might be still taking a toll? It was such a shame that he couldn’t make things happen and that people were so hard on him.
You’ll be back, Fernando, I totally believe in you!!!

  37. Zlatanista says:

Oh those gorgeous men their wet clothes! Too bad Nando didn´t play as well as he looked yesterday :( . But he´ll come back!!

Speaking of tongues, here´s a clip of Jesus Navas, another guy who just can´t seem to keep his tongue in his mouth. Bless him! Skip to 00:35. He keeps doing it several times during the interview if you feel like watching the whole thing. I did. Again, and again…

    • Thea says:

Nando's looking Porky! Seriously, he hit the carbs I think.

    • Rossanera says:

      What the helllll ?!!!

    • Deanna says:

After that lip lick I had to pause and get away from the clip. I felt dirty!!!! After a slight break I went and watched it again. So dirty.

      • Zlatanista says:

        Ummhumm…

      • DebS says:

The lip lick around 00:35 was the best…and did you catch the lift of the left eyebrow right afterwards. Definitely a “come hither” look.

        • Zlatanista says:

I know! I wonder what he´s thinking, sitting there in a room full of journalists. But i guess he´s just involuntarily sexy :)

    • Steph says:

haha. Yeah, he can’t keep his tongue in his mouth! :P Gotta love him for that! :)

    • EternalDreamer says:

I came here to admire the Ballack, but am side tracked by that video! Anyone know how to make a video into a screen saver? :-)

  38. Dee says:

Is it my imagination or is Ballack wearing 3 pairs of shorts? I swear I'm either seeing three waistbands or that shirt just crinkles in the most interesting ways.

    • ASM says:

i can see that too..but i dont mind coz thing matters is what inside..visibly showed off itself in that pic LOL..ooops..

    • cherryboomboom says:

LOL I realized that too ! More like 10 shorts if you ask me !!

    • SlinkyMalinki says:

I love Michael Ballack when he is wet and sulky!!! I also love his three pairs of pants and the interesting wrinkles they make up over there!!!!This guy seems to need support in that particular area!!!! :) ….MICHAEL, YOU'RE DAMN HOT!!!!
