Breaking News: David Villa, Barcelona

Not the sight we would have wanted to greet you with on this fine footballing day. Sigh. Image: AP Photo/ Shizuo Kambayashi.

For those of you who haven’t heard, David Villa fractured his tibia this morning in Barcelona’s FIFA Club World Cup game vs. Al-Sadd. Early reports state the striker will probably be out of the game for six months.

Dahveeed has been struggling to make Barca’s starting eleven in recent weeks and was rumoured to be the subject of a potential move to an English club in the January transfer window. The injury has already prompted speculation that he may not recover in time to be a part of Spain’s squad for EURO 2012.

In other words, the timing couldn’t be any worse for our favourite bitchfacing babe. Join with us in wishing him a speedy recovery, Kickettes.

What a brave man! He breaks his leg and is not even crying, rolling around on the floor, or gasping for breath etc, (unlike those other drama queen ballers out there). Even whilst being stretchered off he looks like he's on his way to get a nice massage from a beautiful women. All the best David get well soon.

  2. Anna says:

This is too bad D: I wish David a speed recovery, but he won't be ready/ fully recover for Euro… Spain needs a soldier =D
Luckily we can use Pedro, Llorente and Soldado (please Del Bosque!)

  3. Lisy says:

I feel so bad for him :-(

  4. Pam says:

And it may be his last Euro as he will be 34 by the time the next one comes around… I really want him to play in this Euro and for La Roja to defend their trophy successfully.

  5. villa7 says:

I was gutted when I saw this during the game. I can't imagine not seeing Villa playing for Spain and scoring all those lovely goals. Get well soon Dahveed!!!

  6. April says:

I really hope he has a faster recovery than anticipated.. not to rush it, but more because he is at an age where recovering from an injury like this (plus some trouble with recent form) and coming back from it can be really difficult. Clearly he is still a Spain favorite, but I'd hate to see him rush to get better for the Euros only to pull Torres and do any more damage in the big games. If it comes to that, Spain isn't short any striking options, and a replacement for Villa is more likely to come in the form of a Soldado or Pedro, methinks. (Sorry Torres haters… his main competition is more likely to be Negredo and Llorente, unless Del Bosque wants to go with an all short forward line-up).

  7. Agnes Wonka says:

This happened because he didn't take care of his leg when he was in pain, he played in spite of it :S

  8. littlegreenpea says:

    oh no!!!
first chicharito, then vidic, and now VILLA?! This is totally unnacceptable.
I want all of them to get well soon so I may resume watching them.

  17. IrishBlue says:

Poor Dahveed. Hope he gets well soon, I hate when my favourite players get broken *sad face*

  18. FootyGirl says:

Poor Dahveed. He hasn't been having the greatest of seasons and now this. All the same, hope he recovers in time for Euro 2012. A Spain Squad without him is hard to imagine.

  19. JaneSpotting says:

Hope he has time now to shave that thing off his face. Its seriously not sexy

  20. Kat says:

I saw some photos of the moment he injured himself and they were horrible. I really, really hope he gets well in time for Euro 2012. We need his goal-scoring magic!

  21. Kristina says:

I feel so bad for David! He has had such a bad spell and now this!? He doesen't deserve this! He's such a fighter, always working hard, never complaining. This is so bad for Barcelona, for Spain and for poor, poor Daaveeed! I wish him a speedy recovery with all of my heart!

  23. Gladys says:

Poor David. I was watching part of the game this morning (I wish every work day started with a Barca game!) and apparently he just stepped on his foot badly. Geez, what a 30th birthday present! Get well soon El Guaje! (It was a rough game…Alexis and Puyi might also be mildly injured. Things got extremely physical…so much so that two of El-Saads defenders ended up on the ground in pain after their own rough tackles.)

  24. Zahara says:

BAAAAAABBBYYY get well soon! cannot not see you for 6 months!
and whats this about leaving barca? staaay, we love you! and besides, you said u werent leaving spain!

    • Gladys says:

I seriously hope the leaving Barca thing is just a media-lie. (I feel bad for strikers…they really get either all the glory or all the blame. And once you stop scoring goals, even for a second, everyone wants to put you out to pasture. I'd much rather be a midfielder or geez, a GK, where you can play until you're 40.)

    • Taz says:

i don't think its true. almost had a nervy break down when i heard it but i'm sure i saw a quote by pep saying its deffo not true.

    • Sarah, Madrid says:

It was on Marca!! Seriously, never take Barc news from them, as much as we don't believe sport or mundo!!

      • blitzenTO says:

Exactly. Pep even said straight out "Marca lies." So, no, el guaje is going nowhere.

Speaking of Marca, I was horrified to read that one of their writers said it would have been better if it was Messi who had been injured. Disgusting.

        • Sarah, Madrid says:

I am not biggest fan of Marca to be honest, they are suppose to be pro-madrid, they always come with the most harming news to us even!!
Really, he wrote that, jeez,!!! I always repeat and say some Marca writers need to retire because they are getting old or just because their article sometime are way out of line.

        • ~*~LaT!Na~*~ says:

yea … a journalist from Marca said …
"Querido Dios: va tocando una revisión óptica. Era el 10. El 10, no el 7. Ya te vale",

          rough translation

"Dear God, you need an eye exam. It was 10. The 10, not 7. Now you know"

yea people saying they are madridistas are coming out a saying "i wish it was Messi but instead of the tibia .. I wish he would have broken his neck" …. & stuff like that it is digusting … & i'm even saying they can't be RM supporters … because who say stup crap like that are fans of nobody …

          • Sarah, Madrid says:

I know SMH, I seen them on twitter, a claimed madridistas who been saying stuff shameful, like I read some cules have been wishing it should been Cristano the one who gets it.

It is sick, very sick, it is human being afterall, as I said about marca, their editing process needs an introduction to 21th century and I amnot gonna even talk about it, they just don't represent us.
I am still heart broken for Daveed, seriously heart broken for him and ashamefed of so claimed RM supporter who understands nothing from Himno a Real Madrid "sin envidias ni rencores como bueno y fiel hermano", they are twice as much who are heart broken, sad and wishing El Guaje all the best..

        • Pam says:

And what was his/her logic to justify that (Messi instead of Villa)? Is it safe to say that the column or whatever it was was devoid of logic?

        • Zahara says:

thank god he is not leaving…he just fits so so well at barca with everyone…its like he belongs…lol :D
          marca is terrible.

    • ~*~LaT!Na~*~ says:

He is not leaving … It's a lie that the media came up with because David wasn't playing … but the reason he wasn't playing was because of his tibia … Pep said it in press conference last month .. but all the media wanted to do was creat drama soo they started saying the David & Messi didn't get along … that Barcelona was going to sell him … and all this other stuff … but it is far from the truth .. Pep yesterday even said that David was not leaving and that Marca (the ones that started the lie) is lying …

  25. Pam says:

Not the kind of news I wanted to wake up to. But El Guaje is strong and he will be back on the field soon! He broke his right femur when he was 4 and that made him become a two footed striker as he didn't want to stop playing when his right leg was in a cast. He is a fighter and is from sturdy mining stock. He WILL be back in time for Euros as my optimistic outlook says!

  26. Sarah, Madrid says:

This news actually put me in bad mood today, Animo ElGuaje!, I just want him to play in Euro 2012,:(:(:(, get well soon Daveed!!!

    • Thea says:

He HAS to get better – otherwise we are stuck with Torres who sucks these days!

      • DebS says:

Llorente, Saldado and Negrado are still options for VDB, right? Saldado's been on fire.

That being said, I hope El Guaje recovers in time too.

        • blitzenTO says:

And Pedro too. He could even call up Bojan, I suppose.

        • Sarah, Madrid says:

I know it is very unlikely, but he can always call Raul back too, but I know that every one of these players, simply doesn't want to get called in this way, Soldado tweeted his good wishes to David, saying how much Espana needs him,

  27. mimi says:

Oh dear! I feel so sorry for him…

  28. Tea says:

animsVilla! Absolutely devastated. I watched the game and it was just a horrible shock. As a culé it just hurts me to know that he won’t be on the pitch for the next few months.
As for the rumours: both club and Guardiola have denied the rumours. Villa isn’t going anywhere.

  29. ChefDi says:

oh no, and it's only 6:43 LA time … I am so sorry to wake up to this! I'll absolutely will keep our darling in healing thoughts for a speedy return to the pitch ~ I predict he'll be ready for Euro next summer; the 2008 Euro was when I first fell in love with him. Thank you for the heads up!

  30. ~*~LaT!Na~*~ says:

I'm heartbroken … but I believe … I know David is strong … I know he will be read for la Eurocopa!!!!

  31. blitzenTO says:

Absolutely gutted about this. Terrible, terrible news. Get well soon, Guaje!
