A staggered start to the European league season, plus the end of the Olympics and the Community Shield all taking place on the same weekend is only going to result in confusion, typos, bickering and glaring errors in the copy, Kickettes.
We’re aware there’s a new season. We think you’ll agree that’s fairly impressive by our standards. Images: AFP/Getty Images; Julian Finney/Getty Images.
Mark your day planners, Kickettes: new Ligue 1 season starts 10th August, the EPL & La Liga on 18th August and the Bundesliga & Serie A on the 25th.
As we’re sure you’ll understand, this is a tremendously busy time in the office. But in between our experiments in national flag nail art and undetected desk sleeping (neither have been particularly successful), we’ve compiled a list of things we’re looking forward to across the European leagues.
Read, digest, then add a few of your own, why dontcha?

Ink suppliers in Napoli breathed a sigh of relief earlier this month, when top tattooed totty Ezekiel Lavezzi signed for Paris St Germain for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £24m. PSG’s audacious plan to hoover up all the mad talent in Italy before anyone else notices continues apace, with Milan’s Thiago Silva agreeing a deal just last Saturday, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic rumoured to be on his way.
That would be a shot in the arm (not to mention a kick round the back of the head) for our Ligue 1 results round-up, no?
But wait. There’s more…
Azkals’ Neil Etheridge. In need of intensive training, apparently. Image: stylenarratives.
Enough, Already: Phillippine Azkals manager Dan Palami has announced his boys are about to go into a five month intensive training programme to prepare for the AFF Suzuki Cup in November. For those of you unfamiliar with the Azkals, we mentioned them here, and their goalkeeper is an underwear model.
We’ll check in in a few months with you, boys, but honestly? We’re not seeing much room for improvement so far.
