Champions League Results Pt II: The Consolation Chronicles

Look away now if you’re a Schweini fan – your boy broke his collarbone in Bayern Munich’s 3-2 win over Napoli after a collision with Gokhan Inler. He could be out for up to six weeks. Image: AP Photo/Matthias Schrader.

Sadly it wasn’t the sound of records breaking that accompanied our Champions League viewing last night, but the shattering of Basti’s collarbone.

We’ve posted some lovely pictures to take your mind off the trauma, Kickettes. Try to keep warm and drink plenty of hot, sweet tea while you browse them. It’ll take the edge off.

Ajax 4-0 Dinamo Zagreb

If this kind of thing continues, we’re going to petition FIFA for paper shorts to become compulsory. Apart from being better for the environment, the tearing potential is awesome. Image: Jamie McDonald/Getty Images.

Inter Milan 2-1 Lille

Your goal didn’t change the result in the end, Tulio, but nevermind. You and your team-mates are still full of win to us. Image: Reuters Pictures.

Lyon 0-2 Real Madrid

Aww, we’d pat Yoann’s bottom in a gentle but firm manner if we met him too, Hugo Lloris. Among other things. Image: REUTERS/Robert Pratta.

Manchester United 2-0 Otelul Galati

Don’t be starting on the Cheech, Sergiu Costin. You’ll have several thousand enraged Kickettes on yo’ ass if you do. Image: Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images.

Villarreal 0-3 Manchester City

We’ve just popped this little cutie-pie into our Champions League Fantasy Football team. Watch with us as his form hits a career nadir. You read it here first. Image: Manuel Queimadelos Alonso/Getty Images.

Just gonna say this: I wish Luscious Lloris will touch my butt like that.

  2. MilaR says:

    More david silva pleaseee:)

  3. RedsGirl says:

I'm wondering is it just me or does everyone else find that by the time they see the pic of Basti they immediately want to know what happened rather than turn away like Kickette advised us to. Especially Basti fans. :)

  4. Jen says:

Can I trade places with Lloris PLEASE??!!!!! Oh Lashes, je t'adore!!

  5. DebS says:

Happy for my Madrid boys! Well done CR7 and another great game by Sergio. I used to think his best position was right back but now I'm having second doubts. I was really impressed by Diarra. He played really well on both the right and left sides. Lashes had a good game but I think Lloris edged him out for MOM. He literally kept them in the game.

Hopefully, David's back injury was just a muscle spasm. Not that those aren't painful but they're much easier to treat recover from. I just love to watch that kid play! Felt bad for Villareal tho. It's just one injury after another. Hard to win with such a depleted team. :(

Whatever Chicha did, he's innocent! just look at him! too cute too be bad ^^
also poor Basti =[ recover soon!

  7. littlegreenpea says:

    CHICHARITO. :D
    ….that is all.

  8. Sarah says:

Basti won't be playing again this year. He had surgery but he's not allowed to leave hospital until tomorrow at the earliest then he has to rest for two weeks and start light training in 4-6 weeks time. He won't play again till 2012 :(

Every cloud and all that – Kroos gets the chance of a lifetime to step out of Schweini's shadow, I guess.

From one midfield problem and possible solution to another –

As if it wasn't already obvious in 2009, 2010 and so far this season – Manchester United REEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLYYYY need a midfield general. It's okay to put Rooney there for a limited time but not forever. When we use him in midfield, we lack attacking threat at the front. Whadda we do? Clone him so he can create goals, keep the midfield in tact and score goals?

Oh my god, I'm now thinking about the impossible.

We really honestly need a midfielder in January. It's not even funny anymore.

    • DebS says:

It must have been a really bad break for Schweini to need surgery. My brother & I both broke ours when we were kids and all we had to do was wear a sling to immobilize it. Poor guy…no wonder he looks like he's in so much pain. :(

  9. Fatima says:

Get well soon basti!!! and oi leave chicha alone!! and haha silva done his back in…. city or nothing without him…he is a player and a half…wish united would've signed him…oh well :(

  10. Jules says:

All the best to Schweini… but what an amazing effort from Ajax! Greg played amazing!

  11. Agnes Wonka says:

I'm so happy for Man.Utd and RM results! Costin, leave Chicha alone!

  12. IrishBlue says:

Ahhh it's that guy from Lille with the hip dips……there's an old Kickette post that I need to revisit :D

Also, poor Bastian, that's a horrible injury and he looks in so much pain!

    LOVE this! :-)

Sorry to hear about Schweini. Looks painful. Speaking of painful – do we think Mancini has recovered from his headache?

  14. RealFan7 says:

Hala Madrid! Great job winning in a stadium that has plagued in the past. Congrats to Cristiano on his 100th goals!!

Kickette…you disapoint me…I saw a pic floating around of CR and Mesut from yesterdays game that I for sure thought would be on here. Maybe you'll find it later in the week.

  15. Alik says:

I so want to trade places with Hugo Lloris in that pic:)

  16. Zoraida says:

    silvaaa <3

  17. Sarah, Madrid says:

Get well soon basti! I hope he will be recovered for euro!

Oh my Madrid, madre Mia! They make me happy, we finally broke the cruse of the hunted land for us, stade de Gerland, finally! I love how angry iker was, I get it! He was so happy that we won to, I get it too! Lyon cost us a lot Before! A lot of records has been set yesterday for my Madrid, congratulation cris for marking your 100( 101 according to Marca)! Congratulation Mr Mourinho for having most wins for a coach in his first 76 games! 12points, 0 goals conceded! Hala Madrid
    Villarreal disappointed!

  18. Gladys says:

Aw Silva– what a face (and what talent)! Yet more evidence in my theory that Valencia has an underground lab where they incubate hot 5'7" superstars to send out to bigger budget teams. If only they could hang on to some of them. :(

And get well soon Bastian! Terrible injury but if it's any consolation, Martin Montoya broke his on Barca's American tour and was fully recovered and called up to the Spanish NT by the end of the summer, so hopefully Schweini will be back sooner than we think.

  19. Esquisse says:

    Ooooh, poor Bastian.. :(
