Confederations Cup: Roll on Semis

image

This photo of Gigi Buffon and Fabio Cannavaro kind of gives away the result for Italy in the Confederations Cup – they lost 0-3 against Brazil, who now go on to the semi-finals against South Africa.

imageIn other results, the American NT made magic happen against Egypt, winning three goals to nil, and are now set to face Spain in the semis.

We’re hoping that our number one US hottie, Carlos Bocanegro has some sort of manly/macho/shirtless tussle with, oh, about half of the Spanish team. That would make for a quality result for both sides.

Were you watching the games this weekend? What’s your take on things? Well done to the winners and commiserations to those teams coming out of the tourny at this stage.

I was disappointed with Italy’s match, but not wholly surprised *sigh* I spent a great deal of the match alternately shouting at the tv and holding a pillow over my face to shied myself from the disaster that was Italy’s defense. However… there’s always the Azzurrini to keep me going. I’m hoping they keep it up in the U21.

I was in shock as well with the USA's results…Italy really needs to work and improve on its squad for the World Cup otherwise they'll be the first ones to head home…and I'm with u FootballerChick43, Spain will def be in the finals to battle it out with Brazil…cant wait!!!!

  3. Krissy says:

Thank GOD. The USMNT actually resembled the caliber of top national teams. I thought Egypt would be a shoe-in because of their well-played victory over Italy! I hope Boca gets better before the next round – I'm bitter about Jay Demerit replacing him.

  4. Erin says:

Still can’t believe USA pulled it out! I was shocked.

I was a kind of disappointed at italy’s performance but congratulations to america and brazil.

@Gastrominosarus the hookers story is a hoax made by some south africans newspapers to show people that they are capable of hosting the WC it is said that the police denied the story afterwards and the egyptian embassy there will sue some newspapers.
The brazilian team was robbed too I think SA is not a safe place for hosting the WC.

  8. Gastrominosarus Rex says:

@ballerina the police confirmed their hotel rooms showed no sign of forced entry and it was also confirmed that neither the Egyptian or Brazilian players used their hotel safe. What did they expect would happen when they left US$2000 lying around? Same think would have happened in Brazil or Egypt.

I have personally attended a Confed Cup game and was very impressed with the South African organization. Yes, crime is an issue in South Africa but most of it can be avoided if you avoid high risk behaviors, such as leaving money out in your hotel room.

Kickette, you misspelled Bocanegra! I’m all for a dirty scuffle between Carlos and Iker.

  10. shay281 says:

The game was excting to watch (on TV) but poor Carlos is out injured. That part was too sad. Them winning was a freaking miracle and I am so proud of them for keeping their heads and up and playing the game. Go Yanks!

This post needs more Michael Bradley shirtless!

  12. Gastrominosarus Rex says:

Attending a game in person with the horns is actually fun—everyone is very excited.

What is not mentioned in the post is that the Egyptian team claims they were robbed in their hotel room, but it turns out they had a party with hookers, who probably took the money.

  13. Priscilla says:

    BocanegrA, not Bocanegro. smile

  14. Forever Torres says:

Happy for Brazil but kind of disappointed that Egypt didn't get through as I was very impressed with their performances against Italy and Brazil. Hopefully it will be a Spain vs Brazil final :)

  15. Lolinha says:

Spain vs. Brazil would be a perfect B-day present for me. I'm rooting for my brazilians, but if anybody has to beat them let it be La Furia Roja (not that I think it's going to happen). I spend practically all year drooling for the spanish guys so I feel some sort of loyalty towards them too. It's a win-win situation for me. I refuse to ponder any other options…

  16. IshYEAH. says:

I love Cannavaro :D I so agree with Lolinha! Brazil vs. Spain, oh yeah :) It will be like 92% of hot footballers :) x

  17. I-Own-Kaka says:

I'm sorry, but more importantly, wtf has Cesc done with his hair now?! First the blond highlights, now it seems to have been shaved around the edges. Ohh, Cescy..

  18. Kleon says:

I'm agree with you, i have no idea what Cesc s doing with his hair, maybe destroying his look?? and the worst is he's paying for it!!! I hope to see cesc with better hair soon

The USMNT pulling out the exact result needed despite the odds against them was pretty damn awesome. I not entirely shocked that the Azzurri lost and got knocked out, just intensely disappointed in their play. We're in a weird transition period now, a lot of crap needs to be worked out before next summer. Now I just need to focus on my Azzurrini. And hope all my boys stay uninjured (Juanito, I'm looking at you).

I think I sent my dog into a mental breakdown..I was screaming so much on Sunday. I had one tv on the US match and the other on the Brazil v. Italy, extra loud to hear the score. I am most pleased that the US showed up, played with heart, passion, pride and desire. The win was not as sweet or important as that. Lives on the line and fought for it. I was very happy and not totally stable after it. Let us hope Boca has recovered from his injury enought to get pitch time

  22. Sarah says:

Amazing! Game was awesome; my brother and I were going mad. Tbh we didn't deserve it based on our first two performances. We were really really lucky to scrape by. But hey, we take what we can get! Roll on Espa?a.

  23. Johnna says:

Boca's injured, Kickette, though I dearly hope he will be fit to play against Spain.

  24. FootballerChick43 - says:

Am still amazed that America made it through. Who would have thought? Seriously. Those were some astronomical odds there. Am proud of the American boys, though, even if they will get killed by Spain.

  25. IshYEAH. says:

Fabio: What the fuck? Buffon: OMG! Is that? Fabio: Our manager died! Buffon: Ciao! I’m off for a kick-a-bout! Ahahaha :P

  26. mrscudicini says:

LMAO at this pic! Sorry boys! Have to give a thumbs up to my national team and would ask my Spanish hotties to be kind :)

  27. ruby80 says:

Have Gigi and Fabio just been given the news that Yoann may no longer be single?
