Didier Drogba: Brandishing His Farewell Torch

If that’s an Olympic torch, we can only pray it isn’t lit.

Didi’s been a busy boy since he scored the winning pen in the Champions League final.

First there was the celebratory trip to Boujis, where he bonded with Rihanna through a system of dance and black and white photography. Afterwards, France Football magazine quoted him as saying that he was leaving Chelsea for “a great leap into the unknown”.

Then this morning, his agent denied these reports as well as rumours of his diamond rosary beads, claiming both are “not genuine“.

Bizarrely enough only a short time later, the Chelsea striker confirmed that he was, in fact, planning to leave. He told BBC Radio 5Live:

“Winning the [Champions League] final was key, that was the turning point. We made history together but I think now is the best time to move on.”

But onto more important things on his mind (and in his shorts).

It was also reported today that Didi was going to Swindon, which is a small town in Wiltshire, to carry the Olympic torch.  We don’t know whether he did or not. Or if he did, why?

Unless the Olympic authorities saw our lead photo and assumed he already had one stuffed in his shorts.

We’ll let you know. In the meantime, your views on this staying vs going back and forth, dear readers?

I can't believe they're letting him go! I'm a Liverpool supporter but even I'd take Didier Drogba, the man's a beast! I'd be terrified to have to defend against him.

Imagining Chelsea FC without Didier Drogba is almost impossible for me. He's been with us so long and been such a part of our history. I am equal parts proud and heartbroken. But God- what better way to go than right after scoring the goal that wins us the Champions League? If he's going to go, it's a good time to do it. I wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do now. He's been a true and faithful servant to Chelsea and has given this football fan some of the best moments in the game. Didier, you'll be missed but you're in the hearts of Chelsea fans forever. Didier Drogba, Chelsea Legend.

I'm really really sad to see him leave. He is a true legend! As you said, this is suitable time for him to start a new journey and I respect his choice, wishing him good luck! He will always be missed!

He is ALWAYS, erm, overexcited on the pitch… Can't remember which game it was, but he scored and ran down to the corner flag, and it was blatant. Reminds me of when Patrick Vieira told a French football magazine that the game sexually aroused him – at the same time as people were wondering what the gloop on the Arsenal players' shirts was. Good timing!

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned that strain in his shorts in the first pic!

Is it too much to state that you can see the goods in the third pic too? Didier, you're killing me!

  11. Miss Lampard says:

I hope you won't go…I will miss you too MUCH. So please stay Didi, you're a fantastic player, you've made the history, you make us cry, and I don't want to weep any others tears..However thank you so much for what you've done for Chelsea. I will never forget you!

So far I'm just interested to know if we're querying the authenticity of "diamond rosary BEADS" or in fact, "BEARDS". I'm confused, lol!

Love him, by the way. I look forward to these important mysteries unfolding. Thank you for the smile(s), as always!
