Dimitar Berbatov: Penalties and Petrol Stations

image

What’s a missed penalty kick in the FA Cup semis when you look this delish in jeans and trainers?

Well, quite a lot obviously, but hopefully Dimitar Berbatov can take some solace from this superiority.

Can we get the Kickette Army opinion on the penalty kicks taken in the Manchester United / Everton game? (Assuming of course, that it should have even gone that far.)

We’re usually of the mindset that if you’re a striker, you should man up and automatically take a penalty, no matter what.

We are also aware, though, that striking a dead ball, especially in a pressurized situation, isn’t necessarily a task that everyone can – or should – do.

Your thoughts on the range of players that stepped up to take a shot yesterday?

We were most impressed with Nemanja Vidic (though we hate those tricky stop/start PKs) and least impressed with the gigantic air ball coming by way of Tim Cahill.

Not Dimi's finest moment. However, penalty kicks can go either way. Everyone knows the highs and lows of PKs – the very best can miss them, the 'not so good' can score them. Pot luck. Cruel but that's the way it is. I must say well done to Everton, though.

I missed the game. I thought I checked it properly and assumed they were free this weekend. I didn't notice it until Monday when I visited ManUtd.com. Ah well, I was too busy with the game of the year in Holland anyway, PSV Eindhoven – AFC Ajax which ended in a 6-2 win for my club, PSV. Ajax was slaughtered.Therefor, I can't comment on the game itself, but Berba wears that shirt with style. I do think he should still shave his head xDPS. Gratz to Everton and Chelsea.

Mitko is in good company here. So many great players have missed a PK.Most of our regular penalty takers were not available. Rio stepped up because he thought it was his duty as captain. I'm sure the lads are gutted and I don't think for one second that they didn't try or didn't care.Congratulations however to Everton. As for Mitko on these pics. The hands and the eyes are killing me.

  4. Moonie says:

Sorry but I don't really care whether or not he can take penalties; I do however care about hot tatts, lush fingers and seriously beautiful eyes – Mr Berbatov scores on all three counts, which makes him a winner in my book.

  5. Genevieve Gourcuff says:

I really really really don't get this one – I just find Berbatov completely disturbing. As for the penalties… I don't know what was going through Timmy's head – he's usually so reliable in those types of situations!

  6. HiL says:

I was extremely upset that day. I wanted to slap Mitko’s face! he didn’t perform well and his penalty kick was terrible. And what the hell made them to tell Rio to take the second penalty kick?! Why not Tevez?! Anderson?! I was mad.. but i’m better now. P: (but still want to slap Berba)

  7. striker says:

Howard was amazing! Cahill's airball was astounding. I thought it was over then. Berba's penalty was extremely unimpressive. What was he thinking??

  8. Emily (Giggsy's Gal) says:

I’ll say that Berba’s PK was disappointing and leave it at that. Nothing we can do about it now. [shrugs] Best of luck to Everton! :) Berba’s jeans here are making me see red (seriously, enough with the Euro-trash super-bleached jeans, Dimi! Thanks, though, for not bedazzling them! Nor are they shiny! Yes!!! Progress!!), but the way that he’s wearing that shirt more than makes up for it. I want to lick his collarbone!! :P [fans self]

  9. Venice says:

Cahill pulled a Beckham and Berba looked like he forgot to take his vitamins. Not the most entertaining game I've ever seen, but then no cup competition is complete without a good penalty drama.

Dimitar looks kind of like a vampire, but a hot one. And no, thats not a Twilight reference. Not at all.

LOVE YOU, MITKO!Was that fan-girly enough? I refuse to slate Dimi over one single PK. I was very surprised that he missed it, but geez, it does happen (see also, Cristiano in the CL final last year). One PK does not a player make. Vida was AWESOME! MOTM for sure. Our youngsters played very well, but in the end it was not to be. Congrats to Everton on their win.Ms Kickette, thanks for the goodies today. First Joe Cole and now my beloved Mitko. I'm a happy girl! lose that girl blog

Oh God, I love Berba so much :D But my team is Chelsea :]

  14. RedHeart says:

    Oh and I like Dimi's trainers. :)

  15. berbagirl says:

I have to say I was quite disappointed with the two first PKs for Utd. and believe Berbatov to have been acting out his coolness way to much… you can't ALWAYS be extremely hot and good on the ball, something's gotta give! but Berba aside, up until the penalties it was one of the most boring games I've watched this season, Vidic nearly saved it but then we lost…!

  16. Slaxx says:

    Hahahahaha… he sooo lazy. C'mon u Toffees!

  17. kenita says:

he missed a penalty? =O i didn't know, i didn't care, he looks so good, too good *drools*

  18. Avenath says:

Wow!…he really does look nice in those jeans…just wish he'd sort out that hair and his penalty kick…his only consolation – Tim Cahill's was MUCH worse…

  19. lose that girl says:

I'd like to slap Dimi too, HiL but not for the reasons you state. LOL :-P

  20. Wazza's Freckles says:

Losing on PKs hurts but we should have won it in regular time. It wasn’t for lack of effort or heart or talent on the part of our great young players: Gibson, Welbeck, Macheda, Anderson, Foster, and the Da Silva twins. They all deserve Man of the Match, imo.

    Congratulations to Everton and Chelsea.

I’m over it. Let’s win the Double again!

  22. Berbie's Barbie says:

He’s torturously dashing. And He can always practice his spotkicks with me…if u know what i mean..hehe!

  23. 'TorresNubianQueen' says:

    P.S love the trainers!!!

  24. 'TorresNubianQueen' says:

Am no Man utd fan but poor Dimi it seems like people wait for him to make a mistake or something and then pounce on him and make out asif he shot someone geez hope his confidence isnt shattered though….it could have gone either way…..kudos to everton though Howard was great wiv the 2 stops…..and Vidic was defo MOTM!!

  25. aristeia says:

I only half-watched the game really. Until the PKs. I remember that moment though, but I only saw the commotion afterward. I can say that I think Cahill’s miss was way more than a miss than Berbatov’s. His was more of a combo bad PK/lucky save by Howard. I think Howard deserves the credit in the end. He canceled out Cahill’s blunder.

May I suggest that people click on those photos to see the full effect of those magnificent lashes of Dimi’s. Gorgeous. And I love his tattoos. I’m not a fan normally but I adore his!

Deka, I agree. People are just lying in wait for Dimi to do something wrong. It stinks. The Everton/Chelsea tilt will be a fun one to watch.
