Edwin Van Der Sar’s Wife Suffers Suspected Brain Haemorrhage

SPL105537_007Our thoughts are with the Manchester United/ Dutch goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar after news broke that his wife Annemarie suffered from a suspected stroke over the holidays.

Annemarie is 36, and collapsed last Wednesday whilst the family was preparing for Christmas.

Manchester United gaffer Sir Alex Ferguson says he has told Edwin to stay in Holland (where he was for treatment on an injury and to have family holidays) on compassionate leave.

Annemarie and Edwin were married in Amsterdam in 2006 and have two children. She is reported to be “seriously ill”.

We can’t even imagine what the family must be going through during this terrifying time. Awful, awful news. We’re praying for a full recovery.

I had a brain haemorrhage in February this year. It was a terrible thing but I had superb treatment in hospital and have made a full recovery.

33% of people die instantly and a further 33% are disabled in some way, often paralysis or blindness.

33% make a complete recovery, I hope EVDS's wife is as lucky as I was.

  6. That’s terrible news. I hope she recovers soon.

  11. As Sir Alex said today, nothing else matters except that Edwin is at her side. Football is nothing; health and family and the love of a good man are everything. And with such a wonderful guy to care for her, and her gorgeous children to get well for, I am positive Annemarie will make a full recovery.

My grandmother had a stroke too recently, but these accidents are happening to younger people more and more.
