Edwin Van Der Sar’s Wife Suffers Suspected Brain Haemorrhage

Our thoughts are with the Manchester United/ Dutch goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar after news broke that his wife Annemarie suffered from a suspected stroke over the holidays.

Annemarie is 36, and collapsed last Wednesday whilst the family was preparing for Christmas.

Manchester United gaffer Sir Alex Ferguson says he has told Edwin to stay in Holland (where he was for treatment on an injury and to have family holidays) on compassionate leave.

Annemarie and Edwin were married in Amsterdam in 2006 and have two children. She is reported to be “seriously ill”.

We can’t even imagine what the family must be going through during this terrifying time. Awful, awful news. We’re praying for a full recovery.

   hope she recovers soon,it was shocking and as the other said,family are more important,my prayers are with them.he is so important for united so his family.

   I had a brain haemorrhage in February this year. It was a terrible thing but I had superb treatment in hospital and have made a full recovery.
   33% of people die instantly and a further 33% are disabled in some way, often paralysis or blindness.
   33% make a complete recovery, I hope EVDS’s wife is as lucky as I was.

   As Sir Alex said today, nothing else matters except that Edwin is at her side. Football is nothing; health and family and the love of a good man are everything. And with such a wonderful guy to care for her, and her gorgeous children to get well for, I am positive Annemarie will make a full recovery.

    Oh, how sad. These things are terrible enough, but when they happen right at the holidays it’s somehow even harder to take. I wish her a full recovery. My sympathies are with Edwin, the children, and the rest of her friends and family, along with anyone else affected by this sad news.

    This is horrible news.
    My grandmother had a stroke too recently, but these accidents are happening to younger people more and more.
    I hope she can fully recover, it is possible.

    This is indeed shocking. Such a young woman! Luckily they can afford the best care and with the support of her family I hope she makes a full recovery.
