Exclusive: Inter’s Francesco Toldo Talks Fashion, Footie & Tight Trousers
This weekend in Milan whilst drinking ourselves into a champagne- induced stupor at Donatella Versace’s Versace Pour Homme fragrance party we happened to bump into the lovely Francesco Toldo of Inter-Milan.
As the Italian goalkeeper for Donatella’s son Daniel’s favourite team, we think FT is the jackpot as far as football players go: the mandatory cheeky grin, requisite muscle-bound thighs and fun-loving personality. Hell, he was willing to talk about fashion, footballers’ legs and David Beckham’s golden balls. What’s not to love?
Click through for our exclusive chat with Francesco.
What were your favorite pieces in the Versace menswear show?
“There was a long blue shearling jacket I loved.”
What about those tight trousers on the runway? You have great thighs, would you don those trousers?
“It’s true football players have great thighs. I like to wear tight trousers sometimes to show them off (laughs).”
What do you think of the David Beckham underwear ad for Emporio Armani?
His balls look overwhelming in the photograph – do all soccer players have big nuts?
“Yes we do. We all have enormous balls” (laughs).
Are all famous footie players unfaithful?
“No! You have to be grounded. I have a wife and two kids, and we are really happy. When you are famous there’s more opportunities but I think every football player has to decide do they want a showgirl girlfriend or do they want a wife who can be your partner and help you along the way.”
Do Italian WAGs like to shop as much as the English ones?
My wife is very good at shopping, she can tell you herself.
At this point Francesco leads us over to Manuela, dressed in a black Versace dress.
Where are your favorite places to shop here in Milan?
“I love Versace, Donatella does the best dresses. I love going to Prada for accessories. I also like Alessandro Del’Acqua and Antonio Marras – they are a pair of designers who aren’t so well known but do really interesting collections.”
What do you think about how the English WAGs dress?
“I think they overdo it a bit too much. They should take it down a notch and try to be a bit more sophisticated and simple.”
Do you ever worry about other women hanging around your man?
“I have my fair share of onlookers too! I’m not at all worried. I’m not jealous and I totally trust him. We’ve been married 9 years.”
What’s your secret?
“Honesty, sincerity and being really communicative with each other.”
