Expecting: Andres Iniesta To Become A Father

Image: Getty Images via Daylife

If the Spanish NT didn’t exist, we would simply have to invent them. Not only did they delight and inspire with their World Cup winning ways, they also have allowed us all to continue to ride the wave of good cheer well into the new season with their often er… novel ways of commemorating the occasion.

Always wanted to see a WC winning captain standing near a large rock in his home town so he can be presented with a plaque? Iker can do that. Get a debatable haircut? Please. Allow Sergio. Be but a towel width away from exposing yourself to your nation’s royalty? Take it away, Carles!

Actually don’t. That’s may technically be treason, or something.

At least we can rely on one member of the side to bring some decorum to the proceedings. A big cheer for Andres Iniesta then, who has confirmed that he and his partner Anna are expecting their first baby, conceived in the post World Cup break.

A big sloppy Kickette kiss to the both of youse!

Congrats :) been watching Gavin and Stacey recently and that picture of Iniesta should read "My balls works" lol

  2. aps says:

I'm so happy for them! Now time to take her down the aisle Andres!

  3. jamtart heart says:

Christ, people were way rude pointing out the typos! :( It wouldn't kill us to be polite to the people who run this great site for all of us. :/

Anyway, congrats to the parents-to-be! I suspect the gen. pop. will reflect a lot World Cup babies, haha.

  4. elylovesfootball says:

Iìm really happy for Andres&Anna!! Congratulations for this great news :D

  5. Zinny says:

Ah. The palest man in Spain! This guy is a legend and so humble at the same time. He'll be an amazing dad for sure.
I also can't wait for the birth of mini-Nando! Now Iker, can you hop on the daddy bandwagon too? Por favor?

  6. D0li says:

Do the members of the Spanish national team get along? I mean since most of the players are on Real Madrid and Barcelona there has to be conflict! The only time I see them together is the Barca players with the one's who play for England (Ces, Pepe, Torres) or the RM players with alone together (Iker and Sergio) or RM players with the British players (Torres, Pepe).

    • @DebStimson says:

I have often wondered the same thing, particularly now that I see how intense the rivalry between RM and Barca is. I'm sure there must be rivalry during the season but I suspect it all get thrown out the window when the boys are together for the SNT. Although I expect there may be some good natured teasing still. For some reason, guys seem to have mastered the art of "friends off the pitch, rivals on the pitch".

Am interested to hear other kickettes thoughts on this :)

    • Kyra says:

I think they get along. I mean, just because they're on rival teams on the pitch doesn't mean they can't unite for their country or even be friends off the pitch. I also can't imagine Iker looking at David Villa and saying, "Ooh, sorry, now that you're in Barca, our cute little bromance is OVER." Okay, well, he wouldn't say that anyway, but you get what I mean. xD

    • Dru says:

They seem to get along v. well while on the pitch, everyone seems to have massive respect for Iker- and Iker, in his own turn, has said he relies on senior (Barca) players like Puyol and Xavi to act as the backbone of the team (he said something to that effect in an interview). And then you have Sergio Ramos, who from all accounts went out of his way to help Jesus Navas (Sevilla) get over his separation anxieties to play the WC, and Villa who went on holiday with Nando once and whose wife liked Olalla so much that they named their second daughter after her.
So yeah, there's really no shortage of love and cuddles in the SNT, I guess they know to leave their club rivalries behind on the pitch when they've got their national uniforms on.

    • JVD says:

I think they get along as much as any "big, happy family" gets along. Which is to say that the people on the team who are either not that close/don't really have anything more than a "surface" relationship/kind of despise each other have reasons other than football to feel that way about one another. They spend too much time together for it to be a love-in all the time. But they are obviously the antithesis of the French team.

    • orangerie says:

they do get along very well. check out this vid of a clasico. right before kickoff, puyol's chatting with iker. and at the end in the vestuario, there's hugs and kisses for sergio and iker. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UChwICeO2IU&p=…

and here's cute behind-the-scenes footage of him and albiol filming a trailer for el clasico http://capitacinco.wordpress.com/2010/08/23/eye-o…

  7. Pique_Xavi says:

Well people were a bit harsh on the mistakes, no? Anyway, you get use to it when people don't pronounce or spell your name wrong, trust me on that. Either way, congrats. I saw this yesterday at twitter and I couldn't help but to be truly happy about someone I don't even know personally, lol. But in a vacay pic of them two they seemed very "happy" to be with each other wink* wink* :) I'm surprised a pap could even get a pic of them outside enjoying the beach ha ha ha. Have you ever thought that these beautiful men are already working on the making of the 2030 La Rojita?

    • Lotte (Zlatanista) says:

lol, you mean the "it´s Carles , not Carlos"- comments? I know, it´s a bit much…

      • blitzenTO says:

I'm pretty sure if they had referred to Gerard Pique as Gerald, you would have corrected them as well. And it's not too much to ask that they refer to a woman by her OWN name rather than her partner's. Two seconds on Google is all it would have taken. This is the year 2010, no?

        • Pique_Xavi says:

Honestly, not me, I had made mistakes and spelled his named with two r's as that's how I'm use to seen it. And I never said anything about Ana's name. I don't know who Kickette is/are. But we know we come from all over the world and to have given her Iniestas' last name could have been a mistake. We don't even know if Ana would mind people would call her by his last name. Not everyone would take offense. Not all women think same and even if they say they will keep their OWN name as you say, they often change their minds once they get married because they want to. I seen it happen with my married friends. I say I will keep my maiden name when or if I get married but then again I'll have to wait and see :) You wouldn't think any less of a woman if she took her husband/bf's last name would you?

          • Dru says:

It's just slightly sloppy, is all- Kickette itself has posted about the two of them on holiday and referred to Anna as Iniesta's GF, not wife, and with no news of a wedding (least of all on here- Kickette even managed to post about Nando's two-witness wedding last year, so they do find this stuff out) it's usually fair to presume she's not (yet) Mrs Iniesta.
And anyway, I believe Spanish women keep their maiden names even if they do marry? Correct me if I'm wrong though- I don't mean to suggest taking your husband's name after marriage is wrong or anything, it's just a minor mistake but still, it could have been avoided. Not holding this against the admins though- the news is enough of a squeeee!

            • blitzenTO says:

Anyway, they've fixed it now, so we look like idiots arguing amongst ourselves! :)

            • Pique_Xavi says:

Well Dru, I don't come here to get hardcore news about football. I go elsewhere for that as I assume many here do so if Kickette assumes something or interprets a picture/person in one way it won't really be a big deal because as I see it, it won't be something bad.

As for correcting you on the last name thing, I'm sorry I just can't do that as I am not Spanish nor do I know any Spanish which I would have to know everyone in Spain to give you correct information I wouldn't want someone to get mad at me for it, lol. All I can honestly say is that it doesn't matter what your nationality is because women have the choice of keeping their 'own" name if they choose to or take the husbands and sometimes bf's which legally as long as you pay the paper work you can do in many countries/or simply add their hubbies name to theirs as my ex's mom did and she is American (white). I'm Mexican and plan on keeping my last name no matter who I marry :)

        • Lotte (Zlatanista) says:

No i wouldn´t have, not on this blog. If the typos were frequent i would, but that is not the case, is it? But i do agree with you that it´s wrong to presume that Anna and Andres are married, and share the same name. If anything, that bugged me.

      • Pique_Xavi says:

Yes to that, lol. People always make mistakes with my name. My own family too :) I tell them, english or spanish it's spell the same way!!! Ha ha ha :D

    • Leya_S says:

Haha, definitely. I was thinking that if enough of them have kids, there'll be a couple of good 2030 teams for Spain (both Men's and Women's).

although I'm in no rush for the rest of the team to suddenly start getting married and having kids! That would mean that they would suddenly all become unavailable to all of us, and as of right now, there's still hope!!

Although can you imagine baby Navas, mini Sergio, and Piquito?!?!

      • Pique_Xavi says:

Yes Leya, I think these boys of "ours" are thinking ahead, lol. And I'm not in any rush either but when you said little Navas I was grinning to think of some little tyke with those amazing eyes like daddy. Oh and a mini Sergio with tiny bright color clothing kind of like how Gwen Stefani's kids dress. But Piquito :( … that did broke my heart a little lol. Though it would be great because I"m sure he'll be so happy but seems like these men choose their partners very careful. So I'm wishful thinking he will take a looooooong time before that happens but sometimes no matter how much you plan things, surprise! ha ha ha I don't follow women football but I heard Spain and Germany Sub 17 I think were kicking butt in the first phase of their WC. Can't wait to see pics of the babies though :D

        • Leya_S says:

Yeah I don't follow Women's football either, but I know Germany's U-21 team won their world cup.

But can you just imagine cute, small, mischievous Piquito with beautiful eyes, and spikey hair, running around passing the ball with "Tio Cesc"?!?!?
Omg these babies will be so adorable!

It's always fun to be momentarily "upset" when ballers get girlfriends, but usually once they get married and/or start having kids, it always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside!

And on a slightly unrelated note: WHAT'S GOING ON with CR7 Jr.?!?!?! I wonder what this kid looks like?

          • Pique_Xavi says:

Aaaaw Tio Cesc, that did make my ovaries smile, lol. And little Piquito with his little Barca jersey cheering for daddy….. cuteness!

Yeah the gf issue makes me have some issues, lol. But you're right when they do get married you just want them to pop babies in hopes the will look something like daddy :) I would die if only I get to see a little Piquito and a little Xavi.

You know funny you bring the Jr subject up because I too was wondering about him the other day when I saw my 2 month old nephew wearing the cutes "sneakers". Took me back to that one post here on Kickette. No word on that ever since those days and not even a picture of him caring for his child. Maybe when they get vacations and he goes to Portugal. I doubt that CR will show him off until he's big enough to steal his spotlight. He probably doesn't want the cutie to be blinded by flashes.

  8. Eli aka NG says:

OMG, i can't picture Iniesta having sex…Nevertheless I'm happy for him
BTW: There's no way Anna's surname is Iniesta too, they're not married and even so, in Spain married women keep their maiden name ;-)

  9. @angemicifuz says:

Aaaaaaw, so cute news ^^ Congrats Andresito campeón and Anna, so beautiful couple. I don't know why, but I believe that the baby is going to be a boy ^^

And, yeah… His name is CARLES, with E.

  10. JVD says:

This is great. As much as I moon over Pique and the other hot SNT members, Andres is my fave player in the world (your 1a Giggsy!) and any good news for him is good news to me. Congrats Andres and Anna!

  11. *Maylea* says:

    Congratulations a la pareja!!!! :D
He's such a great player and person… GRANDE ANDRÉS!!! :)

  12. @melinaki_93 says:

congratulations!!!! thats sooo great, the world deffinitelly needs more people like him!!
he deserves the best of happiness! hes great both on and off pitch! congrats again!!!!! :)

  13. Jules says:

Well now we know how they celebrated the World Cup victory…
¡Felicidades Andrés y Anna! Another gusiluz is on the way and Miniesta may be the best nickname ever.

    • @DebStimson says:

this was the same thing I thought when I heard about it. Guess these are the benefits of having a WAG after scoring the game winning WC goal…celebratory sex :p

      Congrats to both of them!!

  14. Kleon says:

Congratulations! =D i saw it on his twitter, I'm very happy of them ^^
I have the feeling it's going to be a boy ^^

  15. MadridistaJenn says:

La roja needs more cute babies. Felicidades, Andres and Anna!

  16. PrettyPuyol says:

    CARLES NOT CARLOS

  17. Leya_S says:

Yay! Congrats! More baller babies!! I love Andres, he's so adorable. I'm so excited!

I'm betting it's a girl. Why? Bc apparently the SNT is prone to bearing girls first: Fern, David Villa, Pepe…more ppl i can't remember…

If everyone has a girl, they might be able to field a pretty good Women's Spanish National Team…

  18. BarceLisa says:

if anyone deserved to score a WC final-winning goal and recieve the adulation that follows, it is Andresito. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Congrats you sexy little man.

  19. cymraeg_ddraig says:

    Congratulations to both :)

  20. Dru says:

Awww, congratulations to Andres and Anna! May your pregnancy be a good one, and your Miniesta (who is going to bust my ovaries for good, between itself and Nando's to-be son) turn out a healthy, happy baby! And awwwww again at the World Cup celebration baby bit- that must have been quick, she can't be more than two months along, so cute :)

(though I must say, they aren't married, as far as I know- why tack his last name on to her name then? And in any case, Spanish women keep their maiden names after they get married as far as I know)

  21. CrazyForNando says:

Congratulations to them!! What wonderful news :)

  22. neenyah says:

    Aww! I think he'd make a great daddy! :D

  23. Lotte (Zlatanista) says:

When i read this on Facebook yesterday i just cried out loud!! It´s just wonderful! He is a European champ, a world champ, but it is now the real adventure begins. He´s the greatest guy, and i wish him and Anna the very best of luck!!

And soon a little Miniesta will se the light of day!!

  24. OxMiaBarbiexO says:

Congrats to Andres & Anna!!!! hes the best & deserves it :)

  25. hereforthenando says:

I appreciate being warned well in advance when a baller bubba is on the way, so my ovaries are able to prepare for the rough times ahead.

  26. Kylie says:

A World Cup celebration baby-a wonderful way to commemorate the occasion, in my opinion :) Congrats to Andres and Anna!!!

  27. blitzenTO says:

Sloppy, Kickette, very sloppy. Her name is Anna Ortiz, they are not married. Girl has her own identity, you know!

And yes, please, it is Carles, not Carlos.

    What's next, Sergio Ramses?

    • Dru says:

In any case, I thought Spanish women don't switch to using their husbands' last names after marriage anyway? Sloppy indeed, Kickette.

As for Carles v. Carlos, we're not the only ones to make the mistake- Pepe called him Carlos when he was introducing the team for their post-World-Cup celebration back in Madrid, so yeah. But PHWOAR! at the idea of Sergio RamSES, can you imagine him dressed up as a (shirtless) Egyptian pharaoh?

    • BarceLisa says:

lol isn't Ana Ortiz the sister of Ugly Betty? I love that show and I love Andresito's gal. I didn't know who Anna was until after the WC. Sergio as an Egyptian pharoah? that would mean he would have to shave his head.

  28. SlyMysteron says:

1st- And most importantly, it’s Carles. When people write Carlos, I’m honestly confused about who they’re speaking of.

2nd- I love that I have no clue who Andres’ Anna is or that there even was an Anna, so a million congrats.

3rd- Sergio’s new hair looks good sometimes, especially when it wet, takes the “coif” out of it.

  29. Steph says:

haha, I just replied to him on Twitter about this. :P Congrats to them both! :D

  30. Céline says:

congratsssss :D but to go off toppic (sorry) DAMNNN SERGIO'S HAIR CUT IS NICEEEE :D haha hes looking niceee love him with long, short or whatever hair :D D hes gorgeous

  31. YouNeverWalkAlone says:

Yayyyyy!!! So excited! I get to be the second person to congratulate! Yay!
Hahaha I wish Iker and Sara would announce they were having a kid right about now…

  32. Thea says:

Congratulations! Our pride of Barca AND national hero to boot!
