Frank Lampard Loses His Mother to Pneumonia
We usually stay away from stories like this as it is our job to snark and stay frivolous, but we know there are so many Kickette readers who will want to leave their condolences. Frank Lampard’s mother, Pat, has lost her battle against pneumonia and died in hospital this afternoon.

I know the pain that he is in as I lost my mom to pneumonia just a few months ago. He will have good days, he will have bad days, and he will eventually have comfort in knowing that she was a wonderful mother to him and his sisters, giving him the strength and courage to be the person that he is.

Sad to hear about the news. My deepest condolences to Frank and his family on such a tragic day like today.
How heartbreaking… I first read about this on the BBC website this morning on my break at work, and I was floored. I assumed that Mrs. Lampard was on her way to recovery since Frank played on Tuesday. I do hope that some or all of the family was by her side when she passed away. My deepest condolences to Frank and his family.
And Elise, thank you very much for posting the link to the photo of Frank and his mum. It’s a lovely picture and beautifully depicts how special their bond was and will always be.

I am simply devastated for Frank. I know from experience the kind of hell he is in right now, and my heart is breaking for him. I join the chorus of those offering condolences for this enormous loss. I opened Kickette before checking any news sites, so here is where I discovered the news. I went immediately to the Chelsea website, where they are collecting messages for Frank and his family, but I had to leave it and go back later because I was such a mess I couldn’t formulate a decent message. There are a million ways Frank is going to miss his mum, but the one that keeps playing in my head is that every game, for the rest of his career, he’ll still be looking for her in the stands because she’s nearly always there. His *mind* will know she’s not there, but his *heart* will look anyway. Oh Frankie…
