Getting Social: Gonzalo Higuain & Gerard Pique

The introduction of ‘ballers to social networks is an phenomena that excites our hearts/loins and brings us more joy than baked goods with hidden travel-sized liqueurs inside.

While we previously crowned Rio Ferdinand as King of the Twitterverse, another contender is emerging as a spirited hopeful to steal away his crown.

That someone is Alvaro Arbeloa, who’s on a Twitter Mission to singlehandedly convert all of his Real Madrid teammates to the joys of 140 characters and Twitpics galore. So far Arbe’s persuaded Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso, and now Mr. Shelf-Booty himself, Gonzalo ‘Pipita’ Higuain. This brings the current tally of RM folk on twitter to 7, with Fernando Gago, Kaka and of course Cristiano representin’ the club.

Apparently, Arbeloa is currently teaching Gonzalo the nuances of tweeting, and constructing the perfect background image that both encompasses his formidable ass and adorbs face to their fullest glory (we hope).

Who’s next on the Twitter convert list remains to be seen, but we would pay good Chanel to see The Special One let loose on the Twitterverse.

In other social networking news, Gerard Pique has booted up the laptop and decided to bring his lovely self over to Facebook. Here he can be seen to be discussing the relative merits of The Lovely Bones vs Green Zone, and snapping pictures of swanky hotel rooms.

We know. It’s riveting ish and we’re all over it.

Clever clogs Pique is taking a leaf out of Cesc’s book and Facebooking in English, Spanish and Catalan like the smartypants that he is. Can he be persuaded to join the growing legions of footballers on Twitter and join BFF Cesc, as well as teammates Iniesta and Puyol? That remains to be seen, but we love that we now have a legitimate outlet for all our stalking needs.

Which footy player would you like to see joining the ranks on Twitter and Facebook, Kickettes?

Pique belongs in Twitter–his banter with his BFF Cesc would be EPIC and the explosion would give birth to a whole new planet.

  2. laligaforladies says:

Arbeloa is steadily moving up on my fave 'baller list for his dedication to the cause. Also, posting pics of his hot Spain and Real Madrid teammates and stalking coordinates is a definite plus.

  3. Julia says:

I wish every football team were like Corinthians FC on internet.
Most of Corinthians players have twitter accounts and their tweets are hilarious because they always tease and interact with eachother via twitter. Ronaldo (3 times best player of the world / the guy that has most goal on world cups / one of the best players in football history – his twitter is @claroronaldo) has been launching some twitcam video chats with his fans when the team is in the hotel. And it's pretty funny because he reply to question of his fans and he takes his laptop around the hotel to show the other players of the team (like for example Roberto carlos – ex player of real madrid / brazilian national team) and let them take part of the video chat too. =D It's hilarious!

I hope Gorcuff creates a twitter account too!!!! But I think it's very unlikely, he'd do that.

  4. @mai4geri says:

Pique is just too cute and adorable! But I do hope he also gets a twitter account.

  5. Anonym says:

I love Alvaro's twitter because his tweets are funny and sweet. Some days ago while Higuain was changing his nickname, Alvaro said something like: Pipita needs time to find his identity on Twitter. :D

  6. `ccc says:

I CAN't find him on facebook can someone help me?

  7. jamtart heart says:

That picture of Pique is the best thing ever, haha. A boy and his ball, bless. If he's not (future) Barca captain material, I don't know who is. <3

  8. Barneys says:

our prayers has been answered. you can stalk Pique on Twitter now! yeayyy!! his twitter account is @pique3gerard. it automatically verified because his girlfriend tweeted on that user account and that pique also uploaded a twitpic of his girlfriend on his twitter *sobbing*

  9. Aphrodite says:

Ladies, our lovely Pique has become a Twitter member recently. follow him @Pique3Gerard. and so does his girlfriend, Nuria Tomas @NuggiTom26. oh almost forgot the juicy part, they both followed Shakira. yes that wakawaka singer whom allegedly having an affair with Gerard Pique. awkward much? happy stalking! XoXo

  10. C16 says:

Wrong social network Piqué…. It's ALL about Twitter these days!!!

  11. Steph says:

I'm loving this! And again, Alvaro's tweets are just awesome. He always makes me laugh! Like with the tweet about his cousin this morning. LOL. Too funny! Let's see if he can get Gonzalo to tweet more. :P Finally, Pique has an official FB page! :D Now if only he'd get on Twitter. Also, I think Torres and Villa should definitely get on Twitter, too. That would be fun.

  12. YouNeverWalkAlone says:

IKER CASILLAS, Raul Albiol, Fernando Torres, David Villa, and Yoann Gourcoff. Oh, and Alexandre Pato. That would be perfection.

lol and the sole reason I got a twitter was to follow all my favorite footballers, particularly the adorables on RM.
Come on Pipita! Dont forget to use your twitter as much as your teammate (esp Arbeloa!)

    • @mai4geri says:

as with me. could no longer resist not having a twitter account. i really do hope all these players follow the example of arbeola. there really should be someone like that on barca, urging his teammates to get an account. that would just be perfect.

  13. Karlee says:

Torres. Definitely Fernando AND David Villa.

  14. MrsFigo says:

I would love Luis Figo on Twitter :P i would definately start an account myself then for his stalking ;) haha. i have many i would like on twitter, Yoann, Jesus Navas, Matias Fernandez etc etc <3

  15. Marie says:

i d like to see Xavi on Fb or twitter…… i know so little about him except that he picks mushrooms in his free time (sometimes with pique!), it would be nice to hear from him…(we do get the best QOTDs from him)

  16. xbabyshakesx says:

    Arbeloa you handsome beast!
I think he's one of the best footballers on twitter ^_^
soo sweet how he tweets his fans
    much love to him!

  17. KatiGaray says:

OMG, I'm about to faint!!! I totally set up a twitter account just to follow these luscious men:) Now there's Pipita!! OMG OMG OMG!!!!! Now all I need is Kevin Prince Boateng

  18. Gabby says:

defenetly Karim Benzema and Yoann Gourcuff!

  19. CarmenFoxe says:

Me Too! :P I'd make one for him or Bojan :)

  20. jelly says:

Torress, Yoann Gourcouff, Steven Gerrard, Messi…yea I have quite a few :D

  21. Fernanda says:

It's a happy day today for me! Pique AND Cesc are both on Facebook….Now if only Pique would join Twitter!!! Although I must say Pique's posts make my mind wander into places too racy and dirty to mention here! He posted a while ago that he was getting ready to get into bed. Dirty thoughts dear Kickettes, dirty thoughts indeed!

Oh, and P.S. If you are not currently following Victoria Beckham on Twitter, do so ASAP!! If not for her, do it for the extremely hott and mouthwatering pic she posted on Becks! Yummy!

Gosh I feel like such a stalker :S

  22. @Lyandra says:

Pepe Reina should get on Twitter. How much fun would that be?!?

    • gin_in_teacups says:

Yes! Best one ever! But I'm like 95% sure I read that he said he wasn't going to do it :-(

  23. eeraaa says:

OMG! I was about as excited as a kid on Christmas morning when I saw the post up by Gerard! This truly brings me to a point of happiness that is inexplicable.

And yes I did have him wayyy before because I'm a sta.. I mean admirer like that.
At least now I know its legit. =)

  24. EternalDreamer says:

    Squeeeeeeeeeee! I just squeeed outloud… I think I need a Kickette intervention.

  25. i can't wait until Alvaro forces the entire Real Madrid into having a twitter ( oh girls if you are not following Alvaro you should)

  26. Grace says:

Gonzalo stalking (and Kickette stalking) was the only reason I signed up for Twitter… but my prediction is that he won't use it ….

  27. Kai says:

Cristiano doesn't really write his tweets so he's not really on twitter…

  28. BarceLisa says:

now its no longer a question of who I would like to see joining Twitter and Facebook. The Spanish boys should learn how to user social networking from the Brazilians. Didn't Pato, Ronaldinho and Elano post naked pictures of themselves a few years ago? Speaking of pics, Juliano Belletti has posted some hilarious ones of him and his family. Then there were the (shirtless) Santos players who insulted their own fans: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=811… I swear Brazilian players are way ahead of the rest of world football when it comes to using the internet.

    • julia says:

Those naked pictures were fake. LOL. Someone spread fake photoshoped pictures of football players and actors… But those pictures were all proven to be fake and photoshoped by specialists.
      Besides that,
Ronaldinho isn't active on twitter (his twittter is updated by his PR team like Cristiano ronaldo's twitter), Pato doesn't have twitter and Elano is a devoted christian like Kaka. =P

  29. Nell says:

The only disappointing thing about this is that they can't 'like' each other on fb – what's the point in both cesc and pique having facebook pages if they can't use them for mutual admiration! :P

  30. rachel says:

The main reason why i am on twitter just to follow football players

    • YouNeverWalkAlone says:

Looool me too!!! Their combined tweets in Catalan/Spanish/English/Portuguese/Basque is too cute for me.

And maybe its improving my language skills? lol okay, wishful thinking. Google translate is a wonderful thing. Even if it is kind of annoying.

  31. SoccerLoverrrr says:

Piquee ur sooooooo CUTE!!! i cud eat you :D

  32. meh says:

Pique has twitter! my life is complete.

  33. Ryan Babel has blocked me on twitter! but he's such a moron really. All he does it bullshitting about his rap music. I'm a bitter woman lol!!

  34. Ess-Jay says:

Also. I joined Twitter the other day, solely because of Alonso and The Ramos….
Ohhhh, how I love the internet! Stalking made easy! :)

  35. caitanya says:

So happy gonzalo is finally tweeting (well, let's see if he really does). I would be curious to see iker tweet. I love that arbeloa tweets: i have read some fun stuff via him.

    Thank god for tweetdeck!

  36. JEJ says:

    Cesc's on Facebook too!
You can now follow me on Facebook! Click on this link http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cesc-Fabregas/12417… and 'like' the page. Thx!

  37. Pique_Xavi says:

When I said I was a Pique stalker I was saying it as a joke. Now that everyone is bearly finding out about his FB I feel like a certified stalker. I had known about this for a long time now and I assumed his other fans did too. I don't know whether to feel proud or send an anonymous letter to him warning of me, lol. I have a twitter account and a FB account but I rarely use them. I don't have anyone who drives the need inside for me to check constantly. If Pique would get one or Xavi, who by the way gives out info on his teammates all the time, I would be on it 24/7 =)
Hate to nag specially to fellow fans/kickettes but if you are going to be one of those gals that twitters the following: "anwer me, I won't stop until I get a reply" at least make sure you are twittering the right person. Alvaro Arbeloa had a girl saying this and he finally said something like hi, but you really want Raul Albiola here's his twitter. The girl called him raul albiola… seems nuts right? Anyway, Xavi & Pique would do it for me. At least he was polite. But if Cesc can't convince Pique of getting a twitter no one can!

    • Sil says:

I think we need to get on Cesc's nerves till he convinces the whole NT… And the "Albiola" was great. Crazy girls make us look baaaaaaad. And crazy. We JUST want a tweet!

    • eeraaa says:

I'm in the same boat. I've had him of FB for awhile now. I thought all his fans did. Haha.

  38. Zinny says:

Sigh why are they both so beautiful? I swear, they need to make a social networking site just for footballers! I would never even think about facebook or twitter if that happened. Oh and for their profile pictures, shirtlessness would be a requirement. Hm…I think I'll get right on this idea!

  39. CarmenFoxe says:

I used to have Chris Pontius on fb, but I deleted him, it just felt too awkward! But I have one of stuart holden and Chris' friends on facebook, he's really funny :P

  40. MadridistaJenn says:

If Gonzalo needs help with Twitter, I would like to volunteer my services. All I need is 1 hour and some body paint–don't question my technique.

  41. ela says:

    messi messi messi…and valdes….

  42. Mrs Marquez says:

Rafa Marquez, I NEED him on twitter so I can "stalk" him a bit more :P

  43. lulu says:

Everyone should follow henri lansbury on twitter. The rambled musings of an 18yo have given me a good belly laugh for the last 2 weeks

  44. Zhenya says:

Why won't the Italians jump on board?! Are Chiellini and G. Rossi the only ones on Twitter?

  45. sil says:

I forgot something: Last week I was at the Barajas airport…. And tweeting…. Then Arbeloa said: "I'm at Barajas with my team fellows, Cristiano and Sergio"… Aaaaaaand you know that airport is a nightmare, giant and I lost my flight looking for them. And they're in a VIP room… very sad.

  46. sil says:

I really wanna know why Xavi doesnt like Twitter…. Why, God Why!??????????????????? He's so smart and funny and everything… Pleeeeeeeeeease I promise I won't be a stalker. Maybe a little.

  47. Leya_S says:

This is the WORST thing to happen to my LIFE!!
It's bad enough that I spend a majority of my workday refreshing Facebook/Kickette/Dirty Tackle, but now I have to add to it the routine checking of ballers Fb pages, and possibly even Twitter since all signs are pointing to me getting one….
I'm for sure going to get fired, now…

  48. blake2108 says:

    Gareth Bale. Beautiful man

He'd have to block me though, I'd lurk him so much

  49. sarrible says:

Breaking Twit news: Captain America says he's okay despite the neck strain:

And Xavi, Iniesta and Landon Donovan are just so perfectly suited for 140 characters. They're so compact and miniature, just like Twitter.

  50. Jesse says:

    • Leya_S says:

Now I REALLY have to get Twitter….

    • chicagambeta says:

Kun Aguero announced the same thing nearly a month ago, but better – when he reached 300,000 followers, he will pick two names out of a hat and play FIFA 11 with one winner (face to face if they are in Spain or online if they are abroad) and send a signed shirt to another winner. You can see a video of him calling up the winners on his website, very cute.. Very creative idea and such fun for the fans!

  51. Alison says:

Personally, I would love if Benny Feilhaber or Yoann Gourcuff got a twitter account.

  52. Linda says:

I know Arshavin is often treading in misogynist waters but what kind of crazy tweets would come out of him?! That would be absolute HILARITY!

  53. Janet says:

With all these ballers on Twitter, I'm constantly reconsidering the idea of getting an account. Why Pipita? Why do you torture me so?

And I love that Pique is using his facebook account! It's so cute that he tells us that he has spagetti waiting for him after a relatively serious/business-esk note…I love them both so much!

  54. Dru says:

I hope Gilette/other razor companies NEVER get their hands on Pique- his facial hair is too cute to be shaved off! (it's also odd how he looks so boyish even with a full beard, no? The smile does it.)

  55. blitzenTO says:

If Xavi ever got a Twitter account I would finally have to break down and get one. And a cellphone so I wouldn't miss any of his tweets. And a Catalan-English dictionary.

Also, does Arshavin have a twitter? I don't even like him, but that could be epically hilarious.

    • Leya_S says:

True. Do you check Arshavin's website? The interviews are HYSTERICAL!!!

    • Zhenya says:

I read in one of the recent football magazine's that he did have a twitter account. Can't remember which one it was though.

    • Pique_Xavi says:

I'm with you 100%. He says the most interesting things. He often jokes with his BFF Iker. If I know of him getting one I'll deff. let you know if you promise to do the same :) We Xavi lovers gotta stalk together I mean stick together, lol.

    • Kai says:

Uhhh…Xabi's had a twitter account for some time now…

    • Alera S says:

Oh I love when he answers fan questions!! its made even better by Dirty Tackles commentary

    • Marie says:

lets make a petition or blackmail to get Xavi a twiiter account…..

@pique_xavi: i m totally with you on the xavi fans sticking together!!!! (although i prefer stalking)

  56. Rossanera says:

Pipita is just so HANDSOME. I can;t deal.

    • Zhenya says:

Felt a little bad about the game yesterday. Wanted Milan to win, so many legends there but was kind of torn because superficially Madrid has so much eye candy! :(

      • Rossanera says:

Well I don't have those divided loyalties, as my display name would suggest. I would definitely say, however, that the mancandy provided by Madrid was a tiny consolation.

    • MadridistaJenn says:

Agreed! I almost went into cardiac arrest when I saw his face on Twitter. That man……*faints*

  57. Azizah says:

    O and also Raul Albiol

  58. Andrea says:

I am beyond excited about Pique’s facebook page and I love that he is posting in all 3 languages.

  59. CarmenFoxe says:

All of them! But in particular, Fernando Llorente :)
Fernando Llorente is off to take a shower…room for one more? ;)
Fernando Llorente is washing his clothes on an extra hot cycle to ensure they're tight enough to fit on his hot body http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2… like so
Fernando Llorente is upset about the fact that Kickette no longer post articles about him
Fernando Llorente thinks AB team mate Aitor Ocio is rather attractive, if he does say so himself

    • JVD says:

It's the editor's prerogative who they chose to post about, but I too wonder why we rarely hear anything about Bilbao finest.

  60. Azizah says:

    David Villa

  61. Sahar says:

Oh I forgot Cris loves kaka so much. Cris only follows 8 ppl on Twitter. Guess who one of them is? Kaka. Cris and kaka can’t get enough of each other. Btw I love kaka b/c he actually uses Twitter for good too. No one can forget the infamous “real men don’t buy girls” campaign but he also brought awareness and urged people to donate to Pakistan. Love kaka the angel. Kaka makes Cris better and Cris makes kaka more naughty.

    • Leya_S says:

      omg I would DIE.
I have facebook already but I would TOTALLY get Twitter if he got it….I'm already being pushed down that road by Cesc and Sergio….add Bojan, and I wouldn't be able to resist.

      • @meljustfell says:

omgg i honestly died when i found out pique had it.
i was like one of the first 1000 fans
and then i check on monday
        and there is 500,000.
and if he got twitter as well (L)
        but seriously
ill get an aneurism if bojan gets both.
