Good Week/Bad Week: Snappy Comebacks & Sciatica

Ronaldo clothes

We got big thangs poppin’ for this weekend (i.e. clothing sale insurgency) Kickettes, but before we bid adieu, let’s run through this week’s karmic winners and losers.

Good Week

- Gucci: There are worse clothes horses. Cristiano Ronaldo was seen strolling around the streets of New York this week sporting what could amount to an entire collection. By himself. And they don’t even pay him to be a walking advertisement. Cha-ching!

- Martin Kelly: The only English player on a list of sixty chosen by the cream of European journalists for January’s best of the month. A bonus biscuit for those who can name the club he plays for.

- Fallacy Fighters: Javier “Chicharito” Hernández responded to BBC Top Gear presenters’ ‘gag’ about Mexican people in a mature, grown up manner, that belies his choochy face; Frank Lampard set the record straight about Christine Bleakley’s work ethic, and denied that his girlfriend ever ‘had it easy’ growing up.

Bad Week

- Manbags: A study by the British Chiropractic Association revealed how men are putting themselves at risk for chronic back pain by carrying these bags.

- Danny Szetela & His Snood: The high profile neck warmer has enjoyed a surge in popularity of late. But no one is truly infamous until they have their own mugshot. (Psst: and here’s an oldie, but goodie photo of Danny Szetela in his pants.)

- Transfer paper typos: We admit, we’ve fallen victim to languid spelling and story telling from time to time but even we haven’t made a mistake this expensive.

WOW those idiots on BBC, just wow.
I am not Mexican and i am deeply disturbed and angry.
    They are soo rude.
"Imagine waking up and realizing you're mexican."
    Seriously? that is soo immature.

I am glad Javier has class, and took care of things the right way =]
Oh lord, he is just too adorable!

  5. poolrevil says:

  7. Since you're finally acknowledging Kelly, I expect a lot more of him on here! :)

Not only is he tall and *very* good looking but also a player that we can expect more great things from in the future.

  8. Zinny says:

Well as a Liverpool supporter, I always knew Martin Kelly was an undiscovered gem. And he has only improved with time (and Kenny's guidance). Not to mention, he is easy on the eyes.

Does anyone else miss curly haired Cristiano, though?

  9. GracieB says:

martin kelly, you are one hottie. that look can drop some panties.

  10. spanishfootielover says:

  11. Thanks for mentioning Martin Kelly! I am the only one in my circle of friends who pays him any attention. Maybe he will be on Kickette more from now on.

  12. Martin Kelly the next Liverpool captain. I love him! Eye candy, but too young for me. Oh hell no he's not!!

  13. Alaina says:

Please kickette make me a happy girl and post more about martin kelly!

  14. Kesandra says:

Martin Kelly plays for Liverpool… what a fox!

  15. NinjaArkRock says:

Sorry, but I prefer my men a little less 'camp' looking, To me, Cristiano Ronaldo always looks like he's covered in grease and, quite frankly, makes my skin crawl! Ugh!

  16. Jenn says:

I think his clothes are alright. He had worse moments of 'fashion'! Remember those silver pants with the pink shirt? That was more than just awful.

  17. suzie says:

so glad that Martin Kelly is getting some love, he deserves it and 'awww' to Frank, the guy's obviously in love.

  18. SANA says:

Cristiano need a wife like Posh spice.
forget iri she have know style with her 2 or 3 couple of shoes.

  19. @DebStimson says:

I'm going to stray just a bit from the other posters to say, "WTF about the comments made on BBC Top Gear?!" It's bad enough to hear racist comments like this over here in the US but I certainly didn't expect it to be this blatant in Europe. Surely, I'm not the only one here who found that offensive?

    • LosAngeleno says:

You definitely aren't!!! As a born-and-bred Californian who still goes there a lot, I'm used to hearing offensive, ignorant things about Mexicans and Mexican-Americans– wish I wasn't– but in the UK?! Bless Chicarito for the ad. He is lovely and all class– I just feel bad for him (and certainly others) having to hear it. (On top of which…the food comment was pricelessly idiotic…Bad food, really?! Really?!)

      • Deb Stimson says:

I love Mexican food! There are a lot of Mexicans that live in my area and some great authentic Mexican restaurants as well. Maybe these guys are basing their comments on food they've had at Taco Bell or some other Mexican food chain?

        • chay says:

@deb, i think so, really. like the brits have any room to talk when it comes to food? Mexican food is awesome and very tasty.

I am normally okay with un-pc jokes but this went beyond anything appropriate even for un-pc. and yes, bless chicarito for his cute little ad. I hope they publish that in the UK as well.

  20. black widow says:

iker, are you listening? put down your bloody murse once and for all before you throw your back out for good!

    • chay says:

personally, i thought that research thing was quite silly because anyone knows that exerting uneven weight on one side is bad for anyone's back–including women.

i have no problems with man bags, actually.

  21. mamaly says:

WTF was he doing New York this week, he needs to concentrate on his game.

  22. I <3 Marco Borri says:

Cristiano Ronaldo is so cute go watch the video with him and his dogs. That video makes my heart melt. But I hate the way he dresses but whatever he is talented and good-looking.

  23. Leya_S says:

Wtf, where am I when ballers are strolling around NYC?!?!
Oh God, Martin Kelly, is sooo gorgeous.
And as much as I love Top Gear, and I usually overlook their non-PC and at times downright offensive comments, they REALLY took it too far on that episode. Chicha, my darling, is just class. I love him a lot.

  24. jen says:

yayyyyy, kelly! i love seeing academy kids coming through the ranks and kelly never fails to do us proud. i forgot what match it was but i distinctly remember one match at the end of last season or early this season during which carra, stevie, spearing and kelly were all on the pitch and it made me so proud to see them all playing for us after coming through the academy..here's hoping for more liverpool success stories coming out of the academy. for now, you go on with your bad self, kelly.

  25. bri_saldana says:

CRIS makes tacky look soooo delicious!

  26. Jen says:

How do you know that everything CRon is wearing is Gucci?? It all just looks like regular clothes to me!! Fashion and I are have yet to meet apparently!

  27. Jen says:

Martin Kelly plays for Liverpool, and is adorable!! I am so glad I have him on my side, he is really doing well recently!!

  28. IrishBlue says:

Awh I love Chicharito's adorable little face! I could never stay angry at someone with a face like his, he's such a wee cutie! I'm loving me some Martin Kelly at the moment, mmmm he's looking very intense in that photo link…rawr…

  29. Cammie says:

Cris is cute but that is too much Gucci…he is labelHO

  30. Miss Web Worker says:

Martin Kelly is adorable – and I KNOW who he plays for, it's Liverpool. I've had my eye on him since my freckle faced fetish left last month in such a huff.

  31. L.V.B says:

Congratulations to Ronaldo he has now joined the ranks of the Chav elite, by managing to deck himself out completely in one fashion label.

Now all he has to do to join Chav royalty is wear nothhing but burberry.

  32. Mary says:

    I love Martin Kelly.
    All I have to say.

  33. D0li says:

Why is Cristiano forcing himself to look unattractive? I mean he looks like he has a dead rat on the top of his head. Still love him and hope Real Madrid top Barca and win Champions <3

    • NinaNoir says:

Whaat? My first thought was the complete opposite of yours! I think Cris looks great! But then I'm happy to admit I'm not known for my infallible sense of style, so I guess you shouldn't take my word for it… I do agree on the last point though.

  34. RONALIZA says:

CR ,ooh i'm sooo in love with him,so he is absolutely stunning.

  35. Maria! says:

    • Maria! says:

Do they *** (excuse my English :p )
btw today she put a link on her FB page & in the article they say that Irina shayk was semi famous as CR's gf so i commented on it by writing HAHA Semi famous & she really revomed the link i meas she is so stupid she didn't read it before !!!

    • GracieB says:

i saw that TMZ, on TV. all i can say is a gentleman walks beside his lady not 10 feet behind him.

  36. @AgnesWonka says:

    I like CR's look.

  37. loveu2much says:

that pic of cristiano is absolutely stunning i just cant explain my amazement truly magnificent

  38. Amanda says:

Thank you so much. Seeing that photo has officially cured me of any lingering attraction I had to Cristiano. Boy inspires many lustful thoughts while mostly naked in those ads, but this look absolutely kills them dead.

  39. Louise says:

Martin Kelly, looking cute but dorky in his Liverbird jumper.

  40. haha says:

Martin Kelly, Liverpool's finest since Stevie G.
