Good Week/Bad Week: Sobriety & Strokable Statues

We know, we know.
So much has been happening in the world of football and we’ve posting items as frequently as, well, as very backasswards neglectful blog posterettes would’ve done.
Funny that.
GOOD WEEK
Sober Sit Downs: Hope Solo returned to the Today Show hot seat and this time she was sober. Hats off to her.
David Beckham’s Body: DB said he doesn’t mind stripping off for the camera. Which is lucky really, as any body hang-ups he had might have been exacerbated by the metallic statues of him in his pants currently standing in Manhattan.
Curious ‘Scientific’ Commissions: Researchers have worked out that the ‘average’ football fan will spend £56k following a team in their lifetime but care more about their partners than they do about their players.

BAD WEEK
Self Sufficiency: The higher profile players do turn our heads. Watching them in action every week keeps the home fires burning for us. Watching a guy like Gennaro Gattuso fall so far from grace whilst breaking a boot-scrubbing sweat? Devastating beyond repair.
Exposed Flesh: This is not what we mean when we applaud players throwing caution and their skin to the wind.

SAD WEEK

Fabrice Muamba Retires: Any hopes we may have had of seeing Fabrice Muamba make a triumphant return to the pitch were dashed this week, after the player was advised by medical professionals to retire. Muamba, whose recovery from an on-pitch cardiac arrest last March prompted tributes from around the globe, announced the news via Bolton’s website earlier this week. We’d like to wish him and his family the best of luck for whatever the future holds.

Good luck to Fabrice I remember reading he is very intelligent and has either a degree or some high level accountancy exams so maybe he can combine this with football. I am sure he will make a success of his future

Only I can see the 56K, I have traveled all over seeing the USW/MNT… off to Columbus next month for MNT v. Jam and then 6 days later back to LA for WNT v. Aussie

Wow, that video about the study shocked me. I honestly can't believe that those men would rather put pins in voodoo dolls of their wives/partners vs. their favourite footballer. I felt very sad for those women–as well as those men.
Women, time to move on, I say.

Best wishes to Fabrice and his family. It's such a shame he's retiring, but I suppose you have to get your priorities straight. It's amazing he survived and I suppose everything else, including football, pales in comparison.
