If You’ve Got It, Flaunt It: Liverpool Crowned Carling Cup Champions

Image via liverpoolfc.tv.

Liverpool FC lifted their first silverware in six years yesterday, after narrowly beating Cardiff City on penalties at Wembley. As usual, by the time we’ve got around to covering the match, everyone has said all there is to say, so we’ll stick to what we do best.

That’ll be some nudity, an excited bubba and some hysterical footballers, then.

After a patchy game with little opportunity for neutral Kickettes to squeal, things perked up dramatically in the 118th minute when Cardiff’s Ben Turner scored the equaliser, taking his shirt off and the game to penalties.

Guess who won?! Yes, it’s Liverpool, although unfortunately the penalty miss that prompted this intimate (rather too intimate if the placement of that hand is anything to go by) celebratory pile was struck by Anthony Gerrard, cousin of Stevie. The Liverpool captain was seen consoling Anthony on the pitch moments later, which made us melt into a dirty great puddle.

Three generations of Liverpool players celebrating? We’ll have to wait and see whether James Carragher (c) makes the grade, but we wouldn’t bet against it.

And the Liverpool captain is pictured during a moment of reflection. No, seriously, he’s checking for facial blemishes before the interviews start.

Best thing about this is the picture of big Ben Turner!
My team may have lost, but people expected us to get crushed. Our boys put up one hell of a fight, we were unlucky. I've never in my life been so proud to be a Bluebird than after this game.
I cried.. I was distraught, but so, so proud!

Our six year wait FINALLY comes to an end. What a journey it’s been been. So proud of the Reds from being knocked out by Northampton Town 15 months ago to this!

I, like most other Cardiff fans turned up at Wembley thrilled that my beloved rugby team had one the Triple Crown (Bring on the Grand slam baby!) and not expecting to get any joy out of the match that afternoon. Oh my, what a match. I was so proud of all the City boys, Ben Turner scoring that equaliser was one of the best moments of my life. We actually started thinking maybe….then Gerrard and Adam missed the penalties and we really got excited! In the end, it wasn't meant to be but as I said, so so proud of the boys. Who knew we'd take them all the way to penalties?! Now to concentrate on getting to the Premier League, starting with West Ham next week, then maybe another trip to Wembley in May! That'd be the 5th time in 4 years if we get there….not too many other teams can say that… :) Bluebirds!

Yes, very well done, that was the first time I've seen Cardiff play and I was very impressed, look forward to seeing you next year in the Premiere League.

Here's hoping! You should watch more championship football, its one of the best leagues in the world. :) Wouldn't mind a season in the EPL mind you…..

Ah … a semi-naked Andy Carroll to start off my monday–woo hoo!

What a great match! Definitely kept me on the edge of my seat!

So proud of my reds yesterday :D finally they ended their 6 year wait. Was so nerve-racking to watch though especially the penalties.
Was amazing to see Stevie lift the trophy brought tears to my eyes.
I bet they had a good time yesterday I am sure Pepe was the most drunk xD
Aw you didn't post the pic of Agger topless :( xD

I know, right?!? That's a crime! Seriously, how can anyone call this team ugly? So much hotness! :-D

  12. Sarah, Madrid says:

Congrats Liverpool, it is always fun to see side with Pepe winning ;) !

  13. blake2108 says:

No offence, but that Liverpool side is the ugliest to ever win an English trophy. Carroll has a nice body, mind.

  14. Caitlin says:

So so so proud of my boys! What a cracking game it was, although I narrowly escaped a heart attack a couple of times…especially during the penalties!

Kudos to Cardiff as well though – they played excellent and didn't really deserve to lose.

Watching everyone celebrate after the game felt so great – it's been a long time coming and maybe now things will finally get better for our club.

Oh Nando, why didn't you stay? Not only could you have lifted that trophy you desire so much, but you most probably would be at Las Rozas today, training with the rest of the Spain squad. :-(
