International Friendly Results: Manmeat & Memes

Gareth Bale has a crack at the McKayla Maroney – a face that launched a thousand memes. Our photoshop fingers are twitching, Kickettes.

There were a billion international friendly fixtures last night. Literally a whole billion. Give or take.

We’ve covered a few of the major highlights for you here, but if we’ve missed your boys out, please accept our apologies. As you can imagine, it took a while to count the games after we ran out of fingers.

Italy 1-2 England

Call us provocative, but in our opinion this wasn’t the best thing Jermain did on the pitch last night. The goal was better. Yes, we were drinking, but still. Image: Michael Regan/Getty Images.

-

US 1-0 Mexico

We didn’t see this history-in-the-making game because it was past our bedtimes, but was it as scrappy as it sounded Kickettes?

-

Japan 1-1 Venezuela

We are rapidly coming to the conclusion that Keisuke Honda and his granite abs are wasted in the freezing clothes-fest that is Russia. Image: Kiyoshi Ota/Getty Images AsiaPac.

-

Puerto Rico 1-2 Spain

Despite his diminutive stature, Santi Cazorla knows where the net is. Breathe, Arsenal fans, breathe. Image: REUTERS/Ana Martinez.

-

Netherlands 2-4 Belgium

Ah, the sweet smell of success. Or not. Image: REUTERS/Francois Lenoir.

-

Germany 1-3 Argentina

We’re becoming overwhelmed with the number of hot goalkeepers we’re spotting on the international stage. How does Germany’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen measure up for you guys? PATRIK STOLLARZ/AFP/GettyImages.

Now let's beat them in qualifying boys. Yeehaw! The Azteca has fallen!

  2. PhilippaB says:

Don't blame you for not mentioning France v Uruguay, as the traditional 0-0 was played out.
Not a bad match though, France brought in some new players (Mapou, Capoue…Jallet).
Debuchy did something unfortunate to his foot and is now out injured. Oops.

I wasn't that impressed with the draw between Northern Ireland and Finland. My Finnish boys will be toast when they play against France next. :(

But I agree Kickette on the goalkeeper hotness, ours isn't that bad either: http://tinyurl.com/csm8yhh :)

Those of us catching the Denmark Slovakia game were treated to the sight of Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel captaining their teams and rubbing up against one another each time there was a corner kick.

I sincerely hope that these international games are the only ones they line up against one another. I need Skagger to stay at Liverpool!

Will Cazorla be sharing clothes with Arshavin?

Well, serves me right for turning the USA match off because I was tired and figured "it's obviously going to be a draw." FAIL. So happy they won though!

Amazing, yes? And I would also like to point out that Zusi (he of my local SKC) is looking his true fine self in that photo up there… none of that grungy-unders stuff this time. Boyfriend was a nice addition to the team!
