International Results: Mixed Blessings

He came, he scored, they went bonkers. Image: Stu Forster/Getty Images Europe.

Rarely relevant, factually incorrect but always pretty.

Welcome to Monday at Kickette, peeps!

Republic of Ireland 1-6 Germany

There were some positives for ROI in their 6-1 thrashing at home to Germany, although it took us almost an hour of reviewing the photos from the game to find ‘em. Well, it.

Netherlands 3-0 Andorra

The Netherlands game was significantly less challenging in that area, however.

-

England 5-0 San Marino

We’ve read reports that suggest England lacked passion and focus against a team who sit just below Bhutan in the World FIFA Rankings. Do you agree?

-

Belarus 0-4 Spain

Aww, don’t worry, unidentified Belarus player. Most people feel knackered, confused and vaguely exploited after encountering the Spanish NT. We, on the other hand, can only dream.

Armenia 1-3 Italy

Armenia. Pleasantly stretched throughout the game.

Also, congrats Japan on beating France (nothing against the French, but it's a big deal for Japan)!

I was just coming back to post about this actually.. It is huge and in Paris, no less. I am not convinced Lloris is anywhere near as special as his pricetag and Deschamps has claimed

    • PhilippaB says:

Aye, Japan are a decent team and it shouldn't be too much of a shock that they managed something against France. Just…that does *not* bode well or the match against Spain tomorrow. Hopefully the U21s can hold onto their 1-0 lead in the Euro qualifying, at least…

the US boys…. WTF was that nonsense. Inexcusable mess of a performance AGAINST ANTIGUA. Good god please and we are out of left backs

It was a good game, but kudos to the Irish for not giving up until the very end! And their fans are always fab anyway.

Love that picture of Lescott rubbing Cole's shoulders. Awww…. :)

It's gonna take a hell of a lot more than Simon Cox's bum to make me feel better about that result…we were never gonna win but why the manager insists on playing weaker players and leaving Premier League players on the bench is something I just can't get my head around.

    Reus is pretty amazing btw.

Aaand Sweden beat the Färö Island 2 – 1. Not a very reassuring perfomance or result. But Kickette! Zlatan took his shorts off and gave them to a ball boy. Cute gesture and at the same time a blessing for us ladies since he wandered around in his underwear for a spell. You should look into it ;) . Next up for the Swedes is Germany. God help us.

Argentina vs Uruguay was a very exciting game. At least the second half. Messi and co. were brilliant. I love that cheeky free kick! He's becoming a real free kick expert. Just to think that Messi is only four goals behind Maradona in Argentina. And he's only 25 years.

Congrats to Pedro for his hattrick! Didn't see the game though.
