John Terry: Nothing More Than Sarcasm

Images: Sky News.

If JT can use it as his defence, so can we.

And of all the front pages from this morning, the Chelsea captain looks the hottest on the Daily Express.

Coming in in a close second: the shadowy snap splashed across The Guardian’s cover.

Terry is not the best human being but he is one hell of a defender. He's saved Chelsea and England so many times and hate him or love him, he is an amazing player.

    • Katie says:

Well as long as he has saved Chelsea and England a few times. Free pass for everything!!

    • Nicola says:

What does that have to do with racially abusing Anton Ferdinand? That's what he's on trial for, not his performances as a Chelsea and England defender. If someone is good at their job, does it mean they should be given carte blanche to hurl racial slurs at people?

  2. Kristina says:

I doubt that John Terry is an ideological racist. When I think of an ideological racist I think of someone like that lowlife that shoot 68 young people in Norway last summer. Someone that lives according to that deranged doctrine.

What I know, though, is that JT is a narrowminded, stupid arse! At some level racist, but mostly disrespectful and short on braincells. I hope they punish him hard! This sport has to root out the pathetic use of racist and homophobic insults. I know it will take a long time since there are far too many idiots on and off the pitch, but the officials has got to start living up to their beautiful slogans.

    • German_Girl says:

      Agreed.

I also think he is such an arrogant person – a reporter on Sky News who had been in court yesterday said that John Terry had been asked how often he gets taunted about his affair with Vanessa Perroncel, to which he replied that it happens fairly regularly. Apparently he was then asked how he deals with this and replied "That's why I play for Chelsea whereas others play for lower league clubs".

Stupid as well as arrogant. Can't stand that man, sorry.

      • Kristina says:

        Uuuh! Hateful man!

Why can't all be like our Mario? ;) I loved the way he stood up for gay football players last year (was it last year?). There's an intelligent and sensitive man!

        • German_Girl says:

Almost…it was towards the end of 2010.

Yes, he's just lovely all round. I heard somewhere that after the semi-final they interviewed some of the kids who walk out onto the pitch with the players, and the one who walked out with Mario said he (Mario) was so nervous that he kept kneading the boy's shoulders. Awww, bless him. :)

  3. Katie says:

I can't believe that people are sticking up for Terry. With his past indiscretions, the amount of blind faith people have in this man in disgusting. I have no clue what people have seen of JT makes them so sure he wouldn't use something like this on the pitch. The thing that makes me the saddest though, is the amount of crap Anton is going to receive at the Bridge. All for wanting to punish a man whom he believes used a racial slur to attack him.

    • Meeka says:

I am a Chelsea fan and I think don't Terry is very bright. He doesn't seem to think before he does anything and feels he has a sense of entitlement that exempts him from being a decent human being who shows respect to everyone on and off the pitch. I don't think he understands that there are consequences to his actions because he really hasn't received any.

  4. Krystal says:

Racists, parks in disabled parking, sleeps with his friend's woman? I want to punch him.

  5. Aisha says:

Disgusting man! You call someone a black **** then you say your not a racist? Hope they suspend his ass forever!

  6. Sarah says:

John Terry IS racist and he hast to pay for it now. People like that are not acceptable and have to learn that we all are humans, with any colour of skin. but People with that a racist way of thinking are not human at all !!!

  7. Kel says:

He's so awful! (And I don't think he understands what sarcasm actually is).
Someone who isn't racist wouldn't bring race into it no matter how mad they were at them. That's the difference. It would just never occur to them to mention the colour of their skin.

  8. Bella says:

I love tacky political incorrectness, as well as setting aside personal differences in order to maintain the pool of men/whoever eligible for objectification (and lust). BUT but I have to agree with Eve, stunned that any of us could mention hotness in this context. All of us should have known that vile dirt, if not racist epithets, gets hurled about the pitch on a regular basis – and turned a blind eye to most (otherwise we'd watch few team sports). But when a specific incident like this one is being addressed we cop to it and then lust, looks or any moral claims have to go out the window.

  9. Sara in Paris says:

John Terry is racist. It's funny how racist people always justify themselves afterwards. Or during as in ''I am not racist but black people are so __________''.

No respect. Suspend him from football for a lifetime,

    • DebS says:

I agree Sara. You don't call someone a racist name and then turn around and say you're not racist. No credibility whatsoever.

I bet his black teammates are now thinking that surely he thinks the same about them. :

      • Sara in Paris says:

I wouldn't be surprised if he just made himself some ennemies among his very club, which is a good thing. One step closer to being banned from anything football related! We don't need people like Terry!

  10. Anna says:

Katie and Tom :( this makes me so sad.

  11. Red_Girl says:

Don't you think regardless of the result JT in particular comes out of this looking diminished? The language! The attitude! The ego! Ugh. And that's before you get to calling Anton F what he did, whether it was 'sarcastic' or not. Don't see how his image will ever recover. Likely to lose a few sponsors. Which is no doubt why his very expensive counsel has been trying to a] get him to sit in the well of the court and not in the dock like every other human being and b] get the case dismissed. Both tactics just contributed to the overall impression of money-laden arrogance imo.
I don't know. I'm not a Chelsea supporter (though some of my BFs are) so may be you girls feel differently?

    • Katie says:

I'm not a Chelsea supporter and I have never really liked John Terry. I have a few friends who are Chelsea supporters and they all believe that this is a witch hunt and he is completely innocent. I think for some people he can't do wrong. Sad.

  12. mary ann says:

john terry i keep finding more reasons than not to like him and i could have sworn he use to date a black lady so what happened?

    • Sara in Paris says:

I don't know whether he used to date a black lady or not but that doesn't anything. You can have black friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, dates, club mates, childhood friends, it doesn't make you less of a racist person. It's how (lowly) you perceive them just based on the false concept of race that makes you racist.

      • Nicola says:

Yes! Thank you! Spot-on comment. If I could click the "thumbs up" button 4-5 times, I would.

  13. JenC says:

Those headlines are disturbing..John Terry and Scientology wackos in one front page..

  14. Miss XOXO says:

    Go JT…

  15. Eve says:

I can't believe you're talking about him being hot. He is a disgusting human. FULL STOP
