Juventus at MFW: We Meet Nicola Legrottaglie
DSquared’s Dan and Dean Caten flank Juventus players Jonathan Zebina and Nicola Legrottaglie. Note the champagne. It’s 10am.
What’s not to love about Milan Fashion Week? It’s a whirlwind of fabulous clothes, exhausting schedules and footballers by the plenty.
On Monday, a clutch of Italian players sat front row at Dsquared2’s women’s fall/winter 2009 fashion show. Up first on our hit list: Atalanta’s Christian “Bobo” Vieri. He was with a random girl we didn’t investigate and his face looked like it has seen many a UV ray. Alas, he wasn’t speaking, (to us, anyway) and responded to our advances with a gruff, “no domande”, which translates as “no questions”.
Rejection means nothing in Kickette world, so we smoozed over to blue-eyed Juventus defender, Nicola Legrottaglie. He was lovely, and up for a quick discourse before the lights dimmed and the runway show kicked off. A few background details: Nicola was wearing the slick off-pitch Dsquared suit with a black and white tie, and he seemed a little nervous (bless). His breath was fresh.
Q: So is this your first time at a fashion show?
A: No, no… I am well rehearsed at sitting in the front row.
Q: Do you wear a lot of Dsquared?
A: No not really I am more of a black suit type of guy, but I like this suit they designed for us.
Q: How do the two industries compare: fashion and football?
A: Well, they are quite interlinked. Especially here in Italy.
Q: Do you think that Italian football players dress better off the field than say, Spanish players?
A: Maybe! I mean, it’s easy for us to be fashionable because we are so connected to the fashion world here.
Q: Who are your favorite designers?
A: Dsquared, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana
Q: How’s it going for you this season – is Juventus going to be victorious?
A: So far so good, it’s important we finish well.
Sadly, we didn’t have time to ask Nicola if he could provide us with inside access to the Juve dressing room or even if we could help to iron a few of the boys shirts. This is the problem with being sober whilst stalking.
FYI, the always fabulous Dean and Dan Caten from DSquared2 started designing the Juventus uniforms two years ago, and we’ve attached a few photos of the squad in their suited best. Nicola’s teammates Jonathan Zebina and Vincenzo Iaquinta were also at the show.
A huge thank you to DSquared -you can check out the new collection at www.dsquared.com
