Kickette Catch-Up: Weekend Cheat Sheet

A huge congratulations to the Egyptian National team – they won their third consecutive African Nations cup this weekend. Image via Zimbio.

- The Spanish female population has spoken and a majority of them believe Beckham’s Armani ads were sexier than Ronaldo’s. Of course, while Beckham’s bulge was seriously impressive, Crissy’s hip dips are second to none.

- On another Beckham note, Barca ‘Toons will be shaking in their animated boots once David’s comicbook character makes his debut.

- Dimitar Berbatov turned twenty-nine. Sigh. Another year has passed and still, we’ve not taken a ride on the Berbabus. [pic via ONTD]

- Cheryl Cole rolls out music videos quicker than Jermain Defoe finds girlfriends. Your thoughts on her third effort for single, “Parachute”?

- Steven Gerrard’s head was sculpted into wax for Madame Tussaud’s. The fully erect (hee) £150,000 Gerrard statue will debut at London’s most famous wax museum in February.

- Togo has been banned from the next two editions of the African Nations Cup and fined $50.000 due to their withdrawal from the competition after the horrific machine gun attack on the team bus. Yes, we thought it was some kind of a sick joke too.

- Cookies to everyone and a big thank you for all those who voted Kickette as Soccerlens’ 2009 Best Community winner. We were awarded both the Readers’ Choice and the Editors’ Choice.

- Alena Seredova gives her first interview after giving birth to David for the February issue of Czech ELLE magazine. Bubba doesn’t look too thrilled about the flash.

Thanks Kickette for mentioning that and congratulations for all Egypt fans.

  2. aps says:

    Congrats Kickette!

All the teams should boycott the next ACN. Such a disgrace.

Happy Bday Berba! He looks yummy!

Too bad Egypt couldn't make the world cup. Maybe next time.

And baby David is absolutely adorable! Look at his little toes! I wanna play with them!

  3. AgentGirl says:

oh, kickette, my love for you is true and eternal…

but I SERIOUSLY just wasted 8 minutes of my life watching Cheryl Cole videos at your suggestion!! she needs to stick to looking pretty and leave the singing to… well, to people who CAN.

  4. tammyv says:

Really ANC? Really? That was your way to handle this bad publicity. You though, “Hey, let’s turn it into a PR nightmare and make us look brutal, heartless and like thoughtless bastards earning the scorn and condemnation of world?” Someone thought that was a proper response? My mind if officially boogled.

Congrats Kickette. And well played on the coverage that shall not be mentioned. let it play out and get the passion out

  5. FootballerChick43 - says:

Am I the only one who liked Cheryl Cole's new video? And also, Derek Hough's addition to the video made me LOL.

  6. Allie says:

    wow, really AFC?

and cheryl cole just needs to stop with her solo singing career… it’s just a waste of effort.

  7. Ella says:

Banning Togo is unbelievable. The ANC should be ashamed. THEY need to be fined for being a bunch of ridiculous A-holes.

On a happier note, Happy B-day Dimi and congrats Kickette!
And Alena looks gorgeous. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a baby on the cover of a fashion mag before, so kudos to David. LOL.

  8. Erin says:

Disgusted by the ban for Togo. I can only imagine it will be overturned as it is so absurd. Truly unbelievable.

Love the wax Stevie. But not as much as the real Stevie. I think I’ll just stick to visits to Anfield instead of Tussaud.

And HUGE congrats on the awards, Kickette! Fully deserved. :D

  9. FirstTeamCoach says:

Congratulations kickette – you are the best.

Happy birthday Mitko, I would love a ride on the berbabus.

I will pass on a visit to Tussards next time I am in London.

Shame on the ANC, that is really disgusting. They should be showing compassion and checking their security for competing teams.

  10. Shipra says:

I’m sorry for Togo. it’s just unfair! Hey, they can’t help it if they’re ambushed and shot at!!!!! Whatever happened to humanity?

    • Alisha! says:

Couldn’t have said that better myself. It’s a disgarce!

      • CJ says:

Agree. Where’s the understanding that the players would be suffering from complete post traumatic stress?!?! I mean… their mates DIED??! Ridiculous decision and I hope it’s over turned.

  11. HiL says:

Congrats Kickette :D ! you deserve it ;]

And banning Togo is a disgrace. with all due respect to their rules, it's so ridiculous to ban them after what they have been through.

  12. Mima says:

lol! 'Berbabus'? has a nice ring to it so i guess i can't blame you, kickette.

& OMG! Thank u SOOO much for that pic of Egypt's NT! i saw the tournament and they were on fire! Zidan, Gedo and A.Hassan r hot. It was kinda shocking not to have seen any 'nipples of steel' or 'Tuesday torso' posts for them:(

anyway, a well-deserved victory for the Pharaohs and please, kickette, more posts on the players I've just named:)

btw, i don't get the Terry situation. if he gives up England captaincy he still gets to play, right??

  13. imhereforthenando says:

Congratulations, Kickette. I can't tell you how much better my life has been since I found you.

And on another note, I have to say that despite the fact that I think that Berba looks like a vampire, riding the Berbabus just sounds too good to resist.

    • aristeia says:

Congratulations, Kickette. I can’t tell you how much better my life has been since I found you.

  14. Congrats, Kickette. I voted!

    A big WTF to Togo.

Really enjoyed "Men Against Boys: The Sequel", starring Wayne Rooney and Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha, aka Nani.

I don't remember a weekend I've enjoyed this much in a long time!

    • Oh, forgot to add, happy birthday to Dimi. And a very happy birthday to Darren Fletcher, who celebrates today!

      • Kickette Mods says:

  15. Missy Manchester says:

Where's the global protest in support of Togo?? If we can marshal the forces to condemn John Terry…surely…when people have DIED…we can stand up and be counted on behalf of Togo.

  16. Gigi Neville-Brown says:

Togo being punished for being ambushed in an attack is absolutely reprehensible. Shame on the ANC, or whoever made that decision.

On another note, I am thrilled that United beat Arsenal, and Nani finally proved his worthiness.
