Kickette Catch Up: Weekend Gossip Cheat Sheet

VB fashion soccer WAG babySaturday

- Victoria Beckham got teepeed at her baby shower around the same time as news about her husband and son, Brookyn, walking away unharmed from their LA freeway car crash broke. She’s got her lucky stars to thank for her family’s safety and for Gisele B√ľndchen wearing one of her dresses.

- Chelsea’s Didier Drogba is set to marry Lalla Diakite – again. Although 33-year-old Chelsea man first wed his Malian sweetheart in a small ceremony nearly a decade ago, it was said to be a small understated affair. Now that Drogba has the cash to splash in the South of France, he’s giving his lady a proper party. No word on if he’s hiring a band or if he’ll be the evening’s only entertainment.

- A pack of pretty ladies from a Brazilian TV show were sent to a Santos’ press conference to distract one of the club’s stars, Neymar.

- US-backing Kickettes, KickStarter (a financial fundraising platform) is calling for your dollars to help produce Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story.

Serie A celebrity star hot

- Matteo Ferrari wore black and white all over to the Strongbow Gold Experience Party for the debut of the new Heineken cider at Spazio Antologico in Milan, Italy. We approve of the crisp high-top trainers.

- Do you know how much your favourite MLS player makes? Do you want to know?

- We learned Roberto Carlos has no problems with pitch invaders. Actually, he recently gave one a hug and an autograph for his troubles.

- Last but not least, it’s another one of these. Ugh

That article about the 18year old chick is bullshit. You can't read that. The Sun is ridiculous. If you have nothing to say, don't write anything.

  2. Ana;) says:

Congrats to Didier and Lalla! They have a lovely family.

  3. Raincitygirl says:

I think it's totally adorable that Didi and Lalla are going to get remarried, and without even incurring the stress and expense of a divorce first!

Could someone explain to me what the benefit of an injunction is beyond allowing cheating footballers to hide? It seems like one of those things that sounds like a good idea (protect people from having their lives ruined by salacious rumors), but isn't. All it seems to do is allow footballers (at least it seems to be mainly footballers) hide their affairs behind a court order while the other women get battered in the press, taking the other parties' share of the blame as well. And from some of the articles I've read it seems that injunctions are horribly expensive (or apparently only fancy lawyers can get one?), thus making it hard for the not-so-rich to get one to protect themselves (granted I mainly read about this in the gossip section of the internet, so it's unlikely to be the most legally informative). So, pretty much, my mind is a bit boggled.

The MLS salaries make me sad. Pay is going to have to go up if we're going to keep our best players.

    • @DebStimson says:

I know, right? It was only a couple years ago that the starting salary was $20,000. That's pretty much poverty level in the US. Even $40k is not much after taxes are taken out.

Only 6 players that make $1m or more and all of them have European experience. Juan Pablo Angel only makes $1m?! He's been in the league for 4 years and has been HUGE in increasing the fan base in the MLS. He made 9.5m euros when at Aston Villa. Well, that explains why we tend to get European stars at the end of their career. Don't get me wrong, it's great for the MLS because our younger guys are learning a lot from playing with them but still…..
