Kickette Catch Up: Your Weekend Gossip Cheat Sheet

Keep calm and read on, Kickettes. Image Credit: AP.

Sadly, it was anything but quiet on the news front for us this past weekend, but as always, we’re ready and willing to help you bounce back into work action.

Although if you require posts in addition to this one, know that we’ll only resume work upon receipt of our mandatory compensation (in this case that would be Thanksgiving leftovers from our U.S.-based readers).

- Now that Bastian Schweinsteiger has earned himself a 15-inch scar following his recent shoulder surgery, the player told BILD how he’s considering covering it with a tattoo. The German paper’s photoshopped suggestion, seen above, is in direct violation of the universe’s rules on tattoos. Can you think of any other creative ink ideas for Schweini, Kickettes?

- Server Djeparov of Uzbekistan won the Asian Football Confederation’s Player of the Year Award for 2011. Based on appearance alone, we think the AFC made a solidly stoic selection.

- Nina Senicar originally denied her rumoured romance with Marco Borriello because their supposed relationship was nothing more than ‘JF’. Now, however, she’s been busy choosing her words carefully, telling all who’ll listen that their time together was ‘just sex‘ at the Sheraton. We don’t mean to gloat but we love it when we’re right.

- Upon hearing the news about the untimely passing of Gary Speed, numerous influential figures from the world of football and beyond paid tribute to the Wales national team manager.

- The New York Times took an in-depth look at the correlation between violence and football in Argentina.

- No pressure for baby Sophia, but Abbey Clancy wants her daughter to be a pop star when she grows up.

- Grocery store gray seems to be the new black if Melissa Satta (on/off? girlfriend of Christian Vieri, the newest contestant on Italy’s version of ‘Dancing With The Stars’) and Elena Santarelli (Bernardo Corradi) are any WAGs go by.

Why do most footballers go for the stupid slutty girls! Why oh why?……Wait dont answer that, Because they are stupid and slutty!
    This post sums up everything.

  2. Agnes Wonka says:

Bastian Schweinsteiger's tatoo is not cool. It is romantic, yes, but not cool.

Abbey's baby a pop star? well, let's hope she's talented.

  3. Catie2838 says:

I occasionally like Abby's clothes. I occasionally find her funny in a stupid way. But then I remember that she really is just completely stupid. Being a soccer player is a no-no, but a pop star a yes? What if she wanted to be a history teacher? Is that also out of the question because it's not girly enough? Well, I'm sure we can all expect her to a be a stage mom. I'm imagining something along the lines of Dina Lohan.

For a second there I had thought Bastian had made a huge mistake, thank jebus that is photoshopped!

  5. Nobody says:

To Kickettes: Did you know that it was Xabi's 30th birthday last Friday?

    • ChefDi says:

no I did not but I think we need a party so let's get that boy over here (somewhere) and share some Champagne! I hope Kickette headlines will soon include a belated greeting with of course, a gorgeous foto!!

  6. Simone says:

SARAH BRANDNER … uhm… 'modelling' for AXE deodorant:
Yes, it is THAT cheap and slutty. And slutty.
The idea behind the commercial is simple: She is naked and everyday until Christmas guys can chose which 'toy' she's posing with. Mainly naked. Ew. Get some class, girl!

  7. Alex says:

I just wanted to slap Abbey Clancy right now. Hard. Because when it comes to her girls future isnt her happiness most important thing? I hate that kind of people who think that boys play football and girls dance ballet or something… And why cant footballer be "girly"? Look at hope solo, she is gorgeous…

But what you think Victoria Beckham will do if Harper decide that she wants to play football like her dad and brothers?

    • Lana says:

I agree with you! I try not to judge people based on their photos I see in the media, I always want to know what comes out of their mouths and Abbey's comments scream stupid, stereotypical Wag, I'm sorry.
Sophia is not even a year old, aren't there far more important things to consider than her future profession?
Not only does Abbey not want her daughter to be a sportswoman, it obviously doesn't come to her mind that Sophia could not be talented enough in either field to become famous, or that she could not even want to be famous, could prefer going to university.

I guess her interview shocks me even more because in contrast I read a comment of Fernando Torres about his children just yesterday. He said that every day he would think about how he hopes he and his wife can teach their kids that they have to work hard in life to succeed.
These two parents are living in completely different realities, it seems!
