Kickette Interview: Salomon Kalou Talks Blues, Boxers, & BFFs
Is there anything sexier than a man with a sense of humour? Well, yes, a man with abs you could grate cheddar on, obviously. Luckily, Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou has both.
The cute Ivorian forward recently agreed to answer some of our probing questions about his life on and off the pitch. We know: he’s a brave, brave man.
A. I get along with everyone, although I suppose I would say Obi Mikel. We were both young and came to a big club, we hang out together and like the same things.
Q. The Blues have started so strong this season – are you guys trying to score as many goals as you have abs? (And we’ve seen your six pack – all of the 6 goal scorelines can’t be a coincidence.) What do you think is the cause of the team’s success?
A. I think when the whole team is playing well it’s much easier to score goals. Everyone is working together, but we also spend a lot of time in the gym!
Q. Talk to us about the mohawk you were sporting this summer. Why did you shave it off?
A. My mohawk is my lucky haircut! It is for when I am playing for my national team and I always get it done for the big tournaments.
Q. Do you think you can convince Didier to cut his hair? He’s been rocking that ‘do for ages, no?
A. I don’t think I can convince him to cut his hair, it suits him a lot – maybe it is his lucky charm!
Q. Who spends the longest on their hair in the dressing room?
A. Paulo Ferreira probably spends the longest on his hair. It’s definitely not Alex!
Q. Who do you think is the best-dressed player at Chelsea?
A. Didier would be the best-dressed player; he does have a clothes shop (Jada Styles) after all.
Q. We know many of your teammates shop at Jada Styles – do you ever end up wearing the same clothes on a night out?
A. I wore the same clothes as Michael Ballack one time. It was a t-shirt from Dolce and Gabbana – same shirt, same size, same time!
Q. What do you sleep in? Are you a silk pyjamas kind of man? Boxers? Nothing?
A. I’m a boxers man.
Q. When you’re on a night out, are you the guy chillin’ in the VIP, relaxing and posing or are you the one busting your best moves on the dance floor?
A. Me and my mate Obi we like to sit down and chill, get a few drinks and talk to people as they come by. We don’t really dance.
Q. What’s your favourite look on a woman, fashionwise – dressed to the nines or in trackies and casual?
A. I think it depends on the woman and her taste. I’m pretty easygoing about fashion, people should wear whatever they feel comfortable in. If you like somebody, you like them, it doesn’t matter what they wear.
Q. Finally, is there a charity or a cause you believe in/support that you want us to bring to our readers attention?
A. I have my own charity, the Kalou Foundation that fights kidney disease in the Ivory Coast. We are currently building a dialysis centre in Bouke. (www.kaloufoundation.com)
A huge thanks to Salomon for taking part in our interview. Show his charity some love, Kickettes!
