Kickette Interview: Salomon Kalou Talks Blues, Boxers, & BFFs

Is there anything sexier than a man with a sense of humour? Well, yes, a man with abs you could grate cheddar on, obviously. Luckily, Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou has both.

The cute Ivorian forward recently agreed to answer some of our probing questions about his life on and off the pitch. We know:  he’s a brave, brave man.

Q. Chelsea is a team known for its bromances – Lampard and JT are very close. Who’s your BFF on the team?

A. I get along with everyone, although I suppose I would say Obi Mikel. We were both young and came to a big club, we hang out together and like the same things.

Q. The Blues have started so strong this season – are you guys trying to score as many goals as you have abs? (And we’ve seen your six pack – all of the 6 goal scorelines can’t be a coincidence.)  What do you think is the cause of the team’s success?

A. I think when the whole team is playing well it’s much easier to score goals. Everyone is working together, but we also spend a lot of time in the gym!

Q. Talk to us about the mohawk you were sporting this summer. Why did you shave it off?
A. My mohawk is my lucky haircut! It is for when I am playing for my national team and I always get it done for the big tournaments.

Q. Do you think you can convince Didier to cut his hair? He’s been rocking that ‘do for ages, no?
A. I don’t think I can convince him to cut his hair, it suits him a lot – maybe it is his lucky charm!

Q. Who spends the longest on their hair in the dressing room?
A. Paulo Ferreira probably spends the longest on his hair.  It’s definitely not Alex!

Q. Who do you think is the best-dressed player at Chelsea?
A. Didier would be the best-dressed player; he does have a clothes shop (Jada Styles) after all.

Q. We know many of your teammates shop at Jada Styles – do you ever end up wearing the same clothes on a night out?
A. I wore the same clothes as Michael Ballack one time. It was a t-shirt from Dolce and Gabbana – same shirt, same size, same time!

Q. What do you sleep in? Are you a silk pyjamas kind of man? Boxers? Nothing?
A. I’m a boxers man.

Q. When you’re on a night out, are you the guy chillin’ in the VIP, relaxing and posing or are you the one busting your best moves on the dance floor?
A. Me and my mate Obi we like to sit down and chill, get a few drinks and talk to people as they come by. We don’t really dance.

Q. What’s your favourite look on a woman, fashionwise – dressed to the nines or in trackies and casual?
A. I think it depends on the woman and her taste. I’m pretty easygoing about fashion, people should wear whatever they feel comfortable in.  If you like somebody, you like them, it doesn’t matter what they wear.

Q. Finally, is there a charity or a cause you believe in/support that you want us to bring to our readers attention?
A. I have my own charity, the Kalou Foundation that fights kidney disease in the Ivory Coast.  We are currently building a dialysis centre in Bouke. (www.kaloufoundation.com)

A huge thanks to Salomon for taking part in our interview. Show his charity some love, Kickettes!

OMG this is great- I find it cute that he's not a dancer, sometimes it's ok to just chill and chat with mates..Also, when's his next NT match- I want to see the mohawk again!!!

Good luck to the Kalou foundation, too- I hope they achieve their goals and help people, it's great that Mr Kalou is using his fame to reach out and do something positive.

Thanks for the outstanding interview! Sounds like a great guy.

  11. lovealwaysyours says:

Would it have hurt to ask him his favorite book? :) Not complaining (how could you ever complain about such a wonderful gift this site is?!?), just being selfish, I'm sure…. I always find it to reveal quite a bit about a person asking what they love to read (if anything), and the more obvious (albeit possibly shallow), I find intelligence to be incredibly attractive. Hope everyone is having a lovely Friday! (or whatever day it is in your respective time zone!)

  12. Leya_S says:

All other footballers should take a cue from Kalou's book and they now need to realize that they need not be afraid of interviews with Kickette! Well done ladies. I heart him a lot!

  13. Taskeen says:

Go Kickette! here's hoping for many more exclusives with some of our faves:)
He sounds like such a sweetie especially with the "if you like somebody you like them" comment

  14. Nour says:

  15. BarceLisa says:

great interview Kickette, you were not afraid to ask the tough questions. I love Kalou, he's proof that nice guys do come first. I would have liked to find out more about his brother Bonaventure Kalou (he's quite hot) and what it was like growing up with eight (yes EIGHT) sisters.

  16. Summer says:

Is there anyone who could explain me what does mean bromances?

    • DutchGooner89 says:

Describes the love and affection shared by two straight males. it's basically a strong bond between a guy and his best guy-friend and whom are so close that they are like brothers…hopefully i havent confused you 2 much!! x

  17. MadameGourcuff says:

    great interview

  18. @mezz98 says:

Not a Chelsea fan, but I do have a big crush on Kalou. Thanks for the interview and that yummy pic!

  19. sarrible says:

Wait wait wait. Salomon Kalou and Michael Ballack were wearing the SAME SIZE? Does not compute. Ballack must have looked like Dwight Howard when he was wearing David Villa's kit!

  20. blake2108 says:

    Great interview.
It's made me like him much more.

  21. Cammie says:

    Good interview!

  22. Ellie says:

He’s as lovely as he looks.. Cheers Kickette. xo

  23. blitzenTO says:

But you didn't ask him about Katou! (Dirty Tackle reference) :) )))

    Good stuff!

    • hereforthenando says:

I would definitely be interested to hear about the rivalry between Katou and Kittier Katba.

    • Any says:

I was genuinely disapointed when he said Obi was his BFF…I really wanted him to say something about hanging out with Drogba this weekend and eating all his food. Reality be damned!

  24. Blair says:

This is spectacular stuff! Well done, Kickette! The sheer fact that you found out that he sleeps in his boxers was worth doing the interview alone! He's so precious!: "If you like somebody, you like them, it doesn’t matter what they wear.." – AWWWW!!!!
