Ladies Day Style Off: Danielle Lloyd vs Coleen Rooney

Most Fridays find us cracking open the bubbly at Kickette HQ by Noon sharp under the adage of “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere.” In honour of Ladies Day at The Grand National today, we started the booze flowing this morning with a bowl of Wheatabix in order to keep a steady buzz on while viewing photos such as these.

Before you move on, you have to click on that link and scroll down. There’s a girl perched on top of a rubbish bin that you need to see.

Day one of the epic horror show of fashion storied event went off without a hitch and Mrs. Rooney set a grand tone in a hot pink Roksanda Ilincic dress. Danielle Lloyd made good on her Scouse roots and wore a dress from top Liverpool designers, Philip Armstrong. She teamed the turquoise python print dress with Louboutins heels, a black clutch and a matching fascinator.

Coleen followed suit in a Philip Armstrong dress that she excitedly tweeted about a few weeks back. Her obligatory red soles came along for the Ladies Day fun too.

In an unprecedented move (it might be the bubbles talking), we’re going to give this one to Lloyd. Coleen looks great, but when was the last time Danielle looked this put together? She’s had a rough go of it lately, having the boobs of a 12-year-old and all, so we commend her for perfecting the total package look. Hopefully she’ll manage to stay on her feet and off of rubbish bins as well.

Who gets your vote dear readers?

  1. Aside from being pretty, you are so fabulous! I like the outfit and the model itself :D

  2. Soccer Apologist says:

Rain + Fake Tans = High Hilarity. Thanks for that (from America).

  3. Maria says:

Coleen looks so much better, Danielle looks like she is playing dress-up!!!!

  4. [...] All the ladies went to the races, including a handful of WAGs. The WAGs looked okay. Everyone else looked like a Jersey Shore reject. // Kickette [...]

My eyes actually burned as I scrolled down that page. As you were thinking it couldn’t get any worse, the next picture defies all of humanity.

  6. Lexy says:

I've never heard of Ladies' Day but considering I'm from the US, it's not so surprising. Surprising is opening that first link and getting my first dose of 'Ladies' Day'.

    I can't wait until next years! ;D

  7. SoccerDuckie says:

    *nearly speechless……* O_O

Omfg…possibly the most unclassy-looking peeps I've seen in photos EVER…

The further I scrolled, the more I gaped in horror/amazement/befuddlement/wtf-ness!!!

Did ANY of them own a mirror?!? Or even know how to put on makeup??? Or have real friends around them who said, "Oh honey hell noes!!!"??!!?
And the more I scrolled down the uglier it/they/whatchamacallit became. I did say out loud, however, that I envied their self-confidence. In hindsight, maybe what they had wasn't so much self-confidence as the Empress' 'new clothes'…

Just ONE female looked rather well-presented out of all of them – I thought she was the chicest, wore what suited her, with natural makeup and therefore the best looking by miles.

Thanks to Kickette for this unexpected, and welcome, confidence boost! =)

    I like both! I love Danielle's shoes!

  9. FloraJane says:

I love this event! LOL Danielle wins easily. I'm not mad for her dress, but hers looks better on her than Coleen's does on her. Danielle looks comfortable, happy, and just naturally pretty. I love the absence of fake-bake and her hair is amazing!

    • DebS says:

"I love the absence of fake-bake"

I agree! There was just too much orange skin for my taste. Of course, once it rained it looked even worse.

  10. Lll says:

Horror show. Arent there normal clothes in England?

  11. Jen says:

Ugh on both counts!! If I had a gun to my head I'd have to go with Danielle, but only because I don't like Colleen. All those ladies(?) dressed at gunpoint by a BLIND nutter, thank god I didn't move to the area…..even if I had I would be down in London right now, ready to cheer on my Reds tomorrow!!!

  12. jean says:

    I like Coleen's dress, but I don't like Coleen.

  13. Stella says:

I think they try a little bit to hard. UK girls can not dress it is always to much of everything. No I dislike everything.

    • Jen says:

I really hope that they are trying to look this trashy and bad, because if they aren't, and actually think themselves looking good, I am glad I ddin't end up moving to the UK!!!

  14. Rachael says:

Lol I was pretty convinced the maxi section were blokes do some of these women not own mirrors? Not exactly Elle McPhearson!! Danielle wins for me I too am fed up with Collen’s constant shades of orange

  15. Loninha - Brasil says:

Coleen has a dress of the same model Danielle Lloyd, only it is light pink instead of green pool! Coleen is better!

  16. Carvivlie says:

I kinda have to go with Colleen bec she just looks so much more demure and is a nice contrast to the rest of the garish lot.

    • DebS says:

      "garish"

perfect choice of word. Not sure I get Aintree Ladies Day. Are the ladies/girls supposed to wear things that are a bit brash or are these women just trying too hard to stand out from the rest?

  17. Guest2 says:

Ah, there's Colleen…still looking like she's squeezing lemons out her arse.

As far as the link, surely some of those *women* are men in drag. I'm just sayin'…

  18. Red_Girl says:

The cut of Coleen's dress makes her shoulders look like a swimmer's – bit like that Stella Mc optical illusion dress Kate Winslet wore. What I don't understand is how the girls up north go out in the depths of a storm in summer frocks. How do they do it? Is there a layer of lard in the fake tan or something, to keep their body heat in? I love the city of Liverpool with all my heart and every time I go there I'm the shivering, white, ill-looking specimen clad in about ten layers and everyone else is tripping around in sandals and a vest.

  19. mata says:

I hate both outfits, for different reasons, but I have to say I've never seen Danielle looking so fresh-faced and pretty before, I hadn't even realized that she was pretty, so she gets my vote, and I agree that her natural skin tone is so much nicer than the orange.

  20. SaraVidic says:

    Coleen definitely

  21. Liva says:

Terrible this girls behind Coleen. I prefer Coleen natural and with open hair. I like Danielles 'white' legs. Finally, a wag without Fake-Tan.

  22. Sunny says:

Both look equally horrid IMO… With the girl in the blue dress I don't have enough time to say what is wrong, Colleen wins the competitition, but it's bad vs worse. Dress is too short, the black part is supposed to show her waist, not where her boobs stop + the colour is dull. She has a nice shape, she should stop wearing dresses that are too small and suitable for teenaged girls.. However, she does look very nice compared to the flock of girls behind her… :-P

  23. IrishBlue says:

I think they both look great but I love the colour of Danielle's dress and her hair looks fab so she's won it for me too!

Anyway, THOSE PHOTOS!!!!!!!! I sound so mean but dear god there were some hilarious ones in there!

  24. Natasha says:

I love Danielle's headgear :) though her dress would look better without the black lace thing
Coleen's dress is pretty but a little sober for Aintree no? :P

  25. Kristina says:

OH Dear God! Those pictures will hunt me all weekend! I've got to have a drink asap! The steady girl with a beer, a clutch and a cellphone did me in.

  26. Eugèn says:

For me is a Coleen's win, sorry. She is adorable.
