Lazy Links and Randoms

Dimitar Berbatov with a javelin. Wow. That’s something we never thought we’d write/see.

Posting your junk on the internet: no biggie. So says Elano, who’s had to apologize to wifey after, well, posting his junk on the internet.

Liverpool issue a statement over American radio host Steve Cohen’s comments about Hillsborough.

Barcelona are under attack. By their footy kits. Another reason why teams should train nekkid.

Didier Drogba and Jose Bosingwa are being charged by UEFA; Cesc Fabregas has been cleared by the FA in the spitting row with Hull.

Luis Figo says he’s open to playing anywhere in the world and that he’s waiting for some calls. Speed dialing now.

whoa, my poor Barca boys, the clothes should be punished with fire for this unprecedented attack. but that photo of Valdes is quite something, rare collectible item for sure cyclopes Sir Alex with his army will not stop us from our magnificent run, no matter how many of these dastardly attacks would there be.

  2. LizB (Mrs. Vucinic) says:

Lol! Dirty Tackle is hilarious! *snorts* Barca being attacked by their kits…

Berbatov messing about with the training equipment… haha. Not too awful form though, if he were actually throwing a javelin lol.

  3. Erin says:

TammyV, that is absurd. Of course nobody condones the death threats, which has been stated in MANY articles on this subject (believe me, I've read them all). But Cohen's statements on Hillsborough are not "his opinions", they are absolutely incorrect statements that he spews as "facts". And unfortunately he is one of very few voices in North American media on the subject of soccer/football, so it is important that he is not spreading lies. He is free to say what he says, and those of us who are offended by him are free to boycott his sponsors and try to get him taken off the air. And your insinuation that Liverpool supporters have done something to earn his despicable behavior is ridiculous. There are crazies in every group, but it does not mean that the rest of the members should be treated as such. "The Liverpool faithful have earned his contempt…?" Are you serious? I have no words. How do you feel about him joking, on the air, about having chanted "Murderers" to a group of Liverpool supporters in London? That was hilarious too.

  4. Erin says:

I’m so glad LFC issued that statement, and I’m so glad the boycotting of Cohen’s sponsors by supporters groups has had a real effect…he’s losing them by the day. I hope to see him off the air. He’s a vile human being. He’s been offensive many times before this and I stopped listening to/watching him years ago, but this was just over the top lies.

  5. Lola says:

Poor Barca boys being attacked by their clothing *hugs them close* I'll protect you boys, now take these nasty vicious pieces of clothing off.I've never heard Cohen radio show, so I'm not sure I can really comment, but what he said about Hillsborough was horrible and untrue.

  6. The Fourth Official says:

Cohen is an idiot. Actually, that could apply to just about every individual in today's LL&Rs. Except Dimitar. :D

  7. aristeia says:

Lol @ Berba w/ the javelin. But lol more @ him in that other pic on the ground. These ballers don't talk to each other? How do they all get caught by this same tart? Hilarious! Not that I ever enjoyed Cohen BEFORE this crap, good riddance again. He's a freaking moron. That's the nice word I use for him. :x Hahaha! I love the Dirty Tackle boys. Figo, I'm starting up a team and I'd like you to captain. It's the tight, black and filled speedo team. I believe you have some experience? Call me.

Venice, I love you! Bringing the knowledge :)

Ah… Berba. Playful, delightful, athletically versatile, and hot. Excellent combination. :)

It's a sad day when the freedom of speech is used as an excuse for hate talk, and when honesty is a camouflage for cruelty. But jurisprudence is based upon undeniable moral maxims to protect basic human rights. (One of those is the right to have your basic dignity protected even after your death, and the right to mourn whomever you wish, for as long as you wish.) Freedom of speech is built and shaped by those imperatives. This is the philosophy of law. Colbert's comments are a violation of the victims' right to piety, and yes, they are morally (not to mention factually) wrong. The death threats he received are also morally, and legally, wrong, but those two incidents don't cancel each other out – that's relativization (of crime if you will).

  11. TammyV says:

Erin, they are his opinions and he has every right to make those statements. As I said, so do those that disagree with him. I have no problem with that, in fact as a strong supporter of civil rights I welcome it Threats of violence are not ok, especially against children, which should have been addressed in the Liverpool statement as well. The fact that fans, even sane ones like yourself, brush off the threats as insignificant or unimportant while picking of the metal and language of the crazies, does not send the message that fans find the threats objectionable. He has had his house vadolized, he has received tons of anti-semetic hate mail from Liverpool fans over the years. And when the sane rational fans refuse to distigushe themselves from the crazies, they are for all intents and purposes, the same fans. Until the sane fans stand-up and say, "this is wrong – period" and not "well this is wrong, but he is bad and wrong and yadda, yadda, yadda… all liverpool fans get painted into the same broad brush

Am totally sticking my head somewhere it doesn't belong, but… I had to say it.Lol at Barcelona.Aw, Drogs and Bosingwa :( I'm behind you all. Am personally very, very shocked that Michael Ballack isn't being charged. Am happy, but…Lol, so Luis Figo would be open to playing for my local, independent league soccer team? Ace. :P

  14. Erin says:

And you're right, aristeia. This is likely not appropriate for the front page. I'll end it there. :)

It's Saturday & I think a laugh is in order. Check out the link Ms. Kickette has in her Dimi post up above, and see the 2nd photo in the javelin toss series. It's even BETTER… really funny. lose that girl blog

  16. IshYEAH. says:

I’m glad Cesc has been cleared. He didn’t do fuck all wrong in the first place! Phil is an attention-seeking little, shit manager of… Hull City! — Shiat team :) . Dimi on the floor!! :L Bojan running away… Ahahaha x I love my Barca boys.

  17. Jelly says:

can someone tell me why they didn’t charge ballack. He actually put his hands on the ref. This really stinks. I think drog, jose and ballack are ALL guilty so why only charge the former two? I’m really geared up for the champ final. Man utd all the way. Berba is too delicious and now he has a sense of humour. Please take me to heaven *swoon* lol

  18. Genevieve Gourcuff says:

Mmmm Kickette nice idea re Barcelona…

  19. FirstTeamCoach says:

I like the second pic in the Dimitar link :-)

  20. Kleon says:

lol killer clothes are the, run for your lives!! but the first pic looks like Bojan was the one who attacked Vlades and run away laughing XD

  21. aristeia says:

Tammy, every fan base has some dipsh*ts who do despicable things. Not just Pool fans… hell, sometimes I have to cringe after hearing how some Roma fans act, too. But they are the loud-mouthed, havok-causing, jerk-faced minority.

I didn’t enjoy Cohen beforehand and this didn’t make me like him anymore. And freedom of speech goes both ways. If he wants to say things such as the fans are only to blame for the death of their mates (including children), then dumb-arses have a right (legally, not morally) to call him and say stupid, vile things. I think they should just shut up and boycott him, but I can’t control them.

LFC’s lack of statement regarding these threats does not mean they condone these actions whatsoever. Why give the stupid few any power or foothold w/ acknowledgment? It’s tragic and unfortunate that people would respond that way, but to state that all Pool fans deserve his contempt b/c of the way a few act is completely unfair. And maybe a little inappropriate for discussion on the front page where we all post and should be comfortable.

  22. TammyV says:

Cohen is a naturalized American and has therefore been afforded the freedom of speech. He has the right to his comments. Just as others have the right to disagree, but the threats he has gotten are not protected and should not be ok.

However, I did notice that no where in that statement did the Liverpool FC condemn their own fans..The ones who threatened to kill him and kidnap his very young soon to be stepchildren.

In the past, Liverpool fans have made anti-semetic remarks (he is a Jew) and have vadolized his house. That said, his best friend and co-owner of the radio show is a Liverpool supporter. All of those people jumping on the hate Cohen bandwagon, clearly have no idea of the history of Cohen with the Liverpool faithful. They have earned his contempt.

  24. Elise says:

Steven Cohen isn’t the devil. He’s actually a pretty cool guy who knows more about football than just about anyone. He often puts his foot in it a bit, like he did on the radio show, but he also co-hosts one of my very favourite shows- Fox Football Fone-in – and began the broadcast of the show that was closest to the anniversary of the tragedy with a memorial tribute to the families of everyone affected by the tragic events at Hillsborough. Cohen frequently makes me want to strangle him, but it’s usually because he’s saying something negative about Chelsea, whom he supports. He’s always spoken out very strongly about anything that jeopardizes the game or the safety of the players and fans who are attending, so I’m sure that’s where he was coming from with his comments. I’m not trying to argue with anyone who was offended by what he said. We’re all perfectly entitled to our opinions, and considering the subject we’re dealing with, it’s bound to be an emotional issue. I just wanted to offer another side of the story. Steven Cohen loves football and works tirelessly to promote the game in the United States, so I hope anyone who doesn’t know who he is really, won’t just write him off as an arsehole because of this one incident.

  25. Erin says:

It is wrong. Period. And he is wrong. Period. The two are not mutually exclusive. But for you to essentially say that his poor treatment by a few nutters excuses his lies and nastiness is just as wrong.
