Ligue 1 Awards: An Alternative View

It was meant to be a celebration of all that’s great about French football, but having browsed the the stills from last night’s Ligue 1 Awards, we doubt we’d have fact checked too heavily if they’d been labelled ‘Ligue 1 Metrosexual of the Year’ Awards.
Hmm. There’s a thought.
Eden Hazard: ‘The ‘Supermodel: Work! Award for Best Use of an Elbow In A Pose Off’. Image: FRANCK FIFE/AFP/GettyImages.
Eden Hazard was the big winner of the night, beating off competition from the likes of Olivier Giroud and Nene to collect the ‘Player’s Player of the Year’ award while Younes Belhanda (top) was honoured with the ‘Young Player of the Year‘ gong and Montpellier’s Rene Girard picked up ‘Coach of the Year’.
Eden is currently playing hard to get, refusing to say which club he intends to sign for next season, but it will be one in Manchester. Reports that Oldham Athletic are readying the hair gel cannot be confirmed.
Olivier Giroud: ‘The Still Hot, Despite What Was Clearly A Late Night’ Award. FRANCK FIFE/AFP/GettyImages.
Olivier Giroud failed to win anything at the real awards, but we’d like to make up for that by offering him the opportunity to serenade us from the side street outside Kickette HQ. We would extend the invite to Tulio De Melo too, but it appears that he’s already had enough of Olivier’s singing.
Shame, that. He could have brought his friends.
