Melanie Slade: No Ferrari, No Cry

Utter shock and disbelief, Kickettes. That’s where we’re at right now. In summary, a WAG rejected a free gift because it was too vulgar. Isn’t that illegal?

So here’s the story:

Everyone’s favourite “down to earth non-WAG”, Melanie Slade,  (girlfriend to Arsenal’s Theo Walcott), recently turned down Theo’s birthday gift offer of a £140,000 Ferrari California. She’s sticking with her trusty white VW Beetle, also a gift from Walcott in more frugal times/moods.

Apparently Ms. Slade, who is currently studying Physiotherapy at university in London, thought the Ferrari was a bit too ‘flash’ for her tastes, and could potentially be an embarrassment in front of her student friends.

Tut, tut, Melanie. For a start, your mates already know you’re minted. To then turn down a ridiculous car that you can’t exit in a short skirt with any form of dignity is a step too far up the righteous list.

Climbing up Kilimanjaro for charity and eschewing Fake Bake was enough of a statement. (Of course the lads’ mags pics kind of reversed the statement.)

Now, we’re just confused. Are you a WAG-WAG, or an anti-WAG or just a semi-WAG? Why must our brains be taxed so?

   This girl irratates me. Agree with Miss Estonia and Stiliani..if she really wanted to be ‘normal’ she should stop giving interviews and posing for lad magazines. It’s not that hard…you stop giving the press what they want and eventually they’ll go away. She’d actually be better off admitting that she’s a WAG and then do good things with that fame like charity work etc. and be the one WAG that actually is a good role model.

   This just made me like her less…I think she’s trying way too hard to be a “normal” girl. Well, darling, “normal” girls don’t date multimillion euro footballers. So I think you should give that dream up. You can be a nice person without having to try so hard to be a WAG. Since when can’t a WAG be educated? Just because one is a WAG doesn’t mean she can’t be smart at the same time as being stylish and ridiculously well-wheeled. Ugh, seriously. Give me the car and get off your self-righteous horse.

     I agree 100%. If she wants to lead a normal, private life, why is she always giving interviews? Posing in mags? I don’t live in Europe, so I’m not sure, but aren’t there wags who actually do keep their lives more private and don’t discuss details of their relationships like if they returned a gift from their boyfriend? Does Vidic’s wife talk to the press a lot? Does Giggsy’s wife? There are some girls who seem classier and seem to try less hard than Melanie. She seems like a big fake to me. (Again, i don’t see the press from over there, but there must be some wags who are actually “normal”).

   girls, com’on! she seems like such a nice girl. i salut her for being able to juggle the WAG-title AND 4 A-levels, then Uni. she’s incredible. besides, it takes real commitment to one’s academic future to turn down something like a Ferrari. i wonder what keeps her grounded..

    Her VW Beetle is already too expensive for most students.
    Anyway, I can see why she turned it down. Why can’t most footballers just not go for a classy, sporty BMW, VW or Audi?

    Ferrari sucks. It’s too much horsepower for the average driver anyway.
