Midday Health Check with Carlos Bocanegra, USMNT

Carlos bocanegra

Is it just us or have today’s games unofficially heralded the real start of the World Cup?

Before we hit the pub to watch the Three Lions’ tongues take on Algeria, we wanted to call a pulse/heart rate/blood pressure checkĀ  for all of our U.S. and German Kickettes.

If you’re still breathing, then consider today a success.

Thanks for the concern! I am sorry for the German fans – they’re feeling it worse than us Yanks. That third goal would have been nice, but after a wretched first half, I was ready to take a draw. I just hope that ref feels as bad as his calls were. I hope FIFA makes him watch the film a couple of times to really drill it into his head.

Just watched the game on the TV after warching the ticker live. My thoughts on the third goal?….!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Nikki says:

I know , that so should've been a goal , if anyone was committing a foul in the area it was the Slovenian players , there were supposed to be 2 penalty shouts too , the ref refused to say who did the foul , but the goal was not even offside ! I hate that ref ! But be prud of the second half performance USA , especially Cooper Bradley .

  3. TristaJade says:

I don’t know if I’m alive or not. I honestly thought we were done for, and I still don’t think that I am breathing normal. And to know that we COULD have won just makes me frustrated even more!!!!

    • Eve says:

Yeah, it's awful how it could have and should have been 3:2 but you get an inexperienced referee in there and this it the outcome.

  4. Rusty (Mrs Clemens F says:

As someone who was cheering for both the US and Germany, I am surprised that I didn't die at about 1 pm EDT.

  5. Amanda says:

I definitely needed a blood pressure check! I think I scared the poor dogs with my cries of anguish. :(

    • csh says:

I watched on my office computer with the door closed (7 a.m. and quite deserted) and one of the security guards on our floor came to check on me because of my yelling.

  6. Today’s games were the best yet.

In terms of the calls I really would like to see FIFA go to video replay. How many times do teams have to suffer like this for them to move into the current century?

    • Violets says:

But they like the "controversy" that human error brings to matches. Didn't you hear?

    • Ella says:

I agree, it’s 2010, get with the times and use technology to make sure human errors don’t affect outcomes of matches. I’m so proud of the USMNT for their amazing comeback, it makes it harder to stomach that call. (Taking deep breaths, I need a drink!)

    WORD!

  8. batso says:

    good luck for england!!
    Greetings from greece!!

  9. Violets says:

I can’t really trust myself to comment right now.

All I can say is 3 goals, darn it. Three. Goals.

    • senora ramos says:

      amen, sister.

    • MUfcYanksGirl says:

Yeah. Not sure how Mikey trying to release himself from a bear hug makes them take away a goal from Edu. The ref was an absolute idiot throughout the entire match. It’s unfortunate to only get one point from a game that we definitely WON, but how amazing was it to see them come back in the second half and fight like that? That’s what our team is all about and I’m still proud :)

      • senora ramos says:

i am so proud of our boys for stepping up in the 2nd half!

        • MUfcYanksGirl says:

It was beautiful! Must say, they kind of owed it to us after basically sleeping through the first 45 minutes. Cheers to Landy for waking everyone up!

      • Violets says:

I totally agree. The ref was incredibly frustrating, but our boys were absolutely AMAZING.

        • senora ramos says:

still mad at the ref, but suddenly feeling soooooooooo much better!!

sorry to my england ladies! here's to a double win on wed!!

          • Violets says:

Same here. England's my second favorite team (provided everyone's shirts are on…if not, I can't be held accountable for my judgments), but man, am I happy that they tied.

They keep replaying the goal that should have been on TV. It hurts every single time.

      • EternalDreamer says:

I couldn't agree with you more! I was thinking that after the England game and then again today. I was hoping for a win, but I am very proud of them for keeping their heads up and in the same!

  10. senora ramos says:

i’m breathing angrily. does that count?

    • PepaCandela says:

same here. when I get home and can replay it over and over I’m sure it’ll only get worse.

      • senora ramos says:

me too. just watching replays on the small tv where i had lunch made me made. apparently it’s only a foul when edu pushes someone. not when 2 slovenians have our guys in headlocks ::angry::

however, i am a lot happier now than i was at the half.

  11. Ella says:

I'm watching Edu on espn right now and they're officially calling it the "Phantom Foul" that ruined what would have been our WIN. I'm sorry but I'm really pissed about that call as I'm sure we all are.

It's the !*#^$% World Cup, you HAVE to get the calls right and there should be atleast one video replay for each team per game or an extra pair of eyes or SOMETHING. We should all be talking about the games, not the refs, but this keeps on happening and it's fixable and I really hope FIFA will do something to rectify the problems. Ok, that's my rant….Boca is SO hot in that pic.

  12. MissEstonia says:

Today was horrendous, I'm alive but barely. After showering my colleagues (work? During World Cup month? Honey, you're kidding, right?) with my lunch in celebration of the excellent and strategically well-played U.S. goal (yes, I'm talking football. Hot men, I'll get to them in a sec I promise)that was denied by the blatantly r-tarded referee. Seriously, who are you sir??? Graham Poll looks like a genius compared to you!

Now then, I think Kickette should run a special on Mr. Jay DeMerit from the U.S. national team because he is a very fine and attractive blonde gentleman deserving of our attention. <3

Oh and Carlos. Yes sir, you are fine!

  13. Goosie says:

Well. Well. At least we didn't lose is really I can say to that.
