Midweek Results: Confusion Abounds

Asamoah Gyan & Derek Boeteng of Ghana share a tender moment during a friendly (ish) 1-1 draw with England at Wembley. Image: Reuters/Daylife

If our confusion over which games were friendlies and which meaningful at the weekend was bad, imagine our horror when confronted with last night’s maddening fixture schedule.

Fortunately, most of the Kickette staff were able to make it into the top secret work avoidance bunker (the toilets) before our dear editor could assign the round up, so we are relieved pleased to be able to bring the you highlights via a special photo post.

We trust that the time honoured technique of including a photo of Yoann Gourcuff in said post will distract you sufficiently to allow us to get away with it.

Friendly Fixtures

Republic of Ireland 2-3 Uruguay

If you’re going to kiss your boot after scoring, Edinson Cavani, might we suggest taking it off first? Just sayin’… Image: AP Photo/Daylife

Slovakia 1-2 Denmark

Judging by the number of empty seats, the opportunity to see Flying Bendy wasn’t a big draw in Slovakia. Image: Reuters/Daylife

France 0-0 Croatia

Lashes’ campaign to force his way back into the Finest 5 has escalated, Kickettes. And yes. We are watching. Image: Reuters/Daylife

Germany 1-2 Australia

Apparently this ‘Let’s Dance’ audition business has caught on. Who knew? Image: Getty Images/Daylife

Euro 2012 Qualifiers

Lithuania 1-3 Spain

Netherlands 5-3 Hungary

It would appear that rampant manlove hasn’t reached Hungary yet. Image: Getty Images/Zimbio

Northern Ireland 0-0 Slovenia

Chris Brunt has either just missed an opportunity to score or is angling for a Midweek Mmm. It matters not, we’ll still take it. Image: Reuters/Daylife

Sweden 2-1 Moldova

And finally, in a training session before the game, Zlatan brings new meaning to the term ‘controlling the ball’. He’s a scary man, no? Image: Getty Images/Daylife

How did things work out for you in the maelstrom of fixtures, Kickettes. Have you worked it out yet?

Is that a delicious nipple or what?!

  3. Marie says:

    Ribery, you darned photocrasher! ?!?!?!?

  4. @linvinnaar says:

Why, hello Mr Xabi Alonso. How very nice of you to grace my computer screen with your godly presence. Stay gorgeous, aight?

Also, funny how the goal post just HAPPENS to be blocking a possible Chris Brunt short tent? (Just saying, but really!)

  5. C16 says:

    Yoann back on the F5!!!!
I'll put together a strike or something if this does not happen… Yoann belongs on the F5, or even the Hot H.o.F.

  6. Agnes Wonka says:

    great week really!

  7. Elisa says:

Talk about confusing. The US tied Argentina, but lost to Paraguay in a match that they dominated and absolutely should have won.

Well. At least they looked good doing it (both tactically and, erm, physically).

  8. JA7 says:

Just wanted to say: HAPPY BIRTHDAY SERGIO SEXY ASS RAMOS!! <3

Seriously, kickette your captions are just too awsome <3

  12. Sarah, Madrid says:

Oh benz is injured I am really sad. This is the problem with these friendlies, I hope nothing serious. Spain another game with a specail feature of Iker, I had to wait for the end of the game to see him lol, good game the pitch was not perfect but didnt stand on the way of la roja, oh mata, this guy is something. Xabi hello ;)
Argentina vs Costa-rica a zzzz! game, however I think Pastore deserve a mention the guy is fineee! Yeah yeah, I have a question why wouldn't kickette feature gago for one time, the guy is really handsome? just giving suggestion lol.

  13. IrishBlue says:

If I see too many photos of Yoann shirtless I may just explode. Bring it on.

Ah, we lost. Uruguay are a stronger team and we played with an under-strength squad, fair enough. As for you Shane Long, the Premier League needs you, rawr.

  14. xbabyshakesx says:

Nothing but the color Orange =]

  15. Leya_S says:

Yoann Gourcuff, setting the standard for footballers everywhere. I even like the scruffy beard!
Good God, there were a lot of fixtures last night.
The Ramos apparently got the night off for his birthday (well-deserved).
Also, I bailed on the Netherlands-Hungary game at half time and it was only 1-0, and then I found out later it ended 5-3?!?!

  16. Damn I love seeing Skrtel! Kickette, do you have any pics from the USA/Argentina friendly? Jay Demerit from the US team said that playing against Messi is like being 10 or 12 years old and and trying your hardest to keep up with your older brother and his friends. From the way the US looked on the field in the first half, I think I agree with this analogy! They redeemed themselves in the second half though.

  17. Alexandria Samuel says:

I've just come back numb from the dentist, and thanks to Yoann, it's had the same effect on the rest of my body…

  18. there's something about those French away kits that i really love… evidently, Yoann looks better without his ;D

  19. Miss XOXO says:

Yoann Gourcuff look good even from the side…

  20. Lotte says:

Oooohh Zlatan! Just when I think I'm over you you, you sexy beast! Sweden won, wohooo!

Xavi scored, looking lovely in the process. And it's only three weeks before I'm going to Barcelona to see him in the flesh. Yepp I'm a pretty happy girl right now.

  21. Deanna says:

I love seeing the Spanish boys all together!!!
The third goal with Xavi to Silva to Mata. JUST BEAUTIFUL.

Also I love a clean shaven Xabi, and apparently so did the cameraman. ;D

    • Crackers says:

I love him any way he is…beard, no beard, (extremely stylish) clothes or no clothes.

(and I know what you mean about liking to see the Spanish boys together- it just reminds me they are an exceptionally good-looking team, besides being talented too)

  22. lorena_yGp says:

aaaahhh world seems like a perfect place when Yoann takes off his shirt :-) )))
