Midweek Results: Hot Boys & Hobo Chic

Presumably there will be consequences for Robbie Keane failing to return to LA Galaxy to prepare for the MLS Cup game on Sunday. We doubt he gives a crap, though. Image: Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images.

A bumper edition of results for you today, including the odd sneaky reference to games we *may* have neglected to cover at the weekend.

International Friendlies

Slovenia 2-3 USA

We’re not sure whether this lot are gathering together in celebration or to maintain warmth. Either works for us. Image: AP Photo/Filip Horvat.

Denmark 2-1 Finland

It’s been a promising week for Liverpool fans, with Luis Suarez scoring four in Uruguay’s victory over Chile on Friday and Danny Agger netting for Denmark last night. Might come in handy on Sunday, no? Image: REUTERS/Henning Bagger/Scanpix Denmark.

Germany 3-0 Holland

We would like to suggest that for safety reasons, Klaas-Jan should be fitted with full body cast. Mobility would be an issue for him, but we could probably find a use for a helpless footballer in the office. We’d certainly give it a good go. Image: REUTERS/Kai Pfaffenbach.

Italy 0-1 Uruguay

Charge No.1: Ruining the landscape of football by encouraging this kind of sock-related tomfoolery. John George Terry, how do you plead? Image: Giuseppe Bellini/Getty Images.

England 1-0 Sweden

Thanks to Daniel Sturridge, who paused during the match to look hot for us. If more players took just one moment from their work day to do this, the our world would be a much better place. Image: Julian Finney/Getty Images Europe.

Costa Rica 2-2 Spain

We really tried to find an image of a Spanish NT member that offered similar advantages to last time the white kit was given an outing. Sadly, we failed and were forced to go with a semi-naked Puyi. Tough break. AP Photo/Arnulfo Franco.

EURO 2012 Play-Offs

Portugal 6-2 Bosnia

Our decision to focus on some other Portuguese hotness (in the form of Miguel Veloso) did not go down to well with certain other members of the team. He’s used to the spotlight falling on him alone, y’know. Image: BRUNO PIRES/AFP/Getty Images.

Were you thrilled, thrown or utterly indifferent to everything international last night, Kickettes?

  1. Mrs Arteta says:

That Puyol image gives me the creeps, it would have been better even to focus on Iniesta's baldness. That's how bad that image is.

  2. Jennie says:

Wooo!! so happy for my German lads!! such a thrilling game..I’m hoping for a trophy next year!!

  3. Kristina says:

Ah well, as long as Sweden wins the games that count it's ok.

And Puyi, you make me forget all my standpoints on gender stereotypes. Just drag me to your cave and have your way already!!!

    • Kristina says:

And with the games that count I mean that I'm just happy that they have qualified to the EC. I didn´t mean to sound arrogant:). I congratulate England for beating Sweden for the first time in 43 years. I think both teams fought hard and well, but England was better.

  4. con2e says:

WTF? I thought TH was Tottenham Hotspur. Thank you xoWinnie

  5. KL7 says:

Way to go USA! Finally on the right track, hope we can keep this train rolling.

Congrats to Iker and Spain for their result as well.

As for Portugal…great game! Very entertaining. What a goal from Nani, and CR freekick was fantastic. Cristiano showed himself as a true leader on the pitch and kept his team calm and focused even when Bosnia came back. Very touching to see that CR and Coentrao and the rest of the team show love and support for Carlos Martins and his baby. I pray everything works out.

  6. [...] honour of Carlos Bocanegra’s 100th cap with the USMNT – which he earned last night versus Slovenia – US Soccer has put us and our charts to shame with their aptly-titled [...]

  7. Sara P says:

Wooohooo USA! We are starting to look like a team again, finally!

    • DebS says:

It made a huge difference that Klinsmann put both Jozy & Edson in at the same time. It's too easy for the other team to defend when there's only one threat up front. I thought Bradley had a really good game too. Hopefully, he's proven his point to Jurgen that he needs to be called up.

  8. Agnes Wonka says:

I'm so proud of Uruguay!…and so happy for Portugal! CR shows everyone that real cracks play great in both team and NT!

    • Shar. says:

'CR' rarely ever plays great for Portugal (and I'm Portuguese). A good game versus Bosnia doesn't change that. Sorry.

      • Raven says:

Exactly my thoughts. CR very seldom delivers in the NT. Many that are stars in their club have difficulties in the NT. Just look at Zlatan. When he plays for Sweden he just looks slow and heavy.

        • Kristina says:

Tell me about it. Sometimes Zlatan does fantastic things even in the NT, but most of the times he doesn't. Not unlike Ronaldo.

          • Raven says:

People are giving Messi a hard time, when the truth is that he does a lot more in the "background" when he plays in the NT than the aforementioned players. In my opinion.

      • xoWinnie says:

very true…as much as i hate to admit it, it's only been recently that Cristiano has played to even half of his potential on the NT. as do a lot of the big players. then you look at guys like Podolski, who tear it up in international competitions.

        • DebS says:

I do think that having Coentrao and Pepe on CR7's club team has helped his NT performance. A player is going to play better with teammates who play with him just about every day than with guys he only plays with much less.

  9. littlegreenpea says:

hooray for the usa!! the game was intense, from what I could SEE… :) I am proud of them.

  10. Maria V says:

I'm particularly happy that my beautiful Venezuelan team is joint top of the South American qualifiers with Uruguay and Argentina!! It could be our first World Cup!!!! I think I'll go insane with happiness when that happens :D :D :D

    • annafcb says:

Congrats, you guys have been brilliant, and my crush on Vizcarrondo has only worsened over time ;) I expected to see a bit of coverage on the conmebol qualifiers here since I couldn't see them. Still, huzzah! :)

  11. blitzenTO says:

Thank you, Kickette. Shirtless Puyol is always, always welcome!

  12. caquark says:

Semi-nekkid puyol. Eewh, there goes my breakfast. Thanks Kickette….

  13. Green 4 says:

Go on the boys in GREEN,!!! Well done. So so happyyyyyyyy.!!!!! They work their butts off for the national team & deserve to be in the tournament. Can't wait until it starts. The Irish fans are the best,!!!!!!

  14. IrishBlue says:

Wooooo!!! I'm absolutely over the moon with our result!!! See you all in Poland-Ukraine!!! Olé olé olé olé……..

  15. Zahara says:

Spain, i love you, but you gotta up your game por favor :)

    • April says:

If not that, at least appeal to my superficial side and display your wet, white kitted bodies in a way that the photogs can give us a good glimpse of things and stuff. It is like the reinforced the fabric this time around. Disapprove!

  16. Brunhild says:

I'm disapointed Ireland made it. After all this whining in the qualification for South Africa as if they would have acted any different than TH, my appetite for Irish football is gone. Hope they won't get far, the little hypocrites.

  17. JA7 says:

I LOVE MY GERMANS! THEY ARE ON FIYAAHHHH! Oh how i wish Klose played for Arsenal!
    - Gutted for Bosnia though :(

    • littlegreenpea says:

…. do you realize how bad that would be for the rest of the premier league?? berbatov and chicharito wouldn't be the top scorers anymore!!

    • DebS says:

Glad Klose got playing time. He seems to produce every time he plays. I also thought Sami had a really good game. Now that Sahin is fit, Sami's really been making a case for Mou playing him. Well done Sami!

  18. xoWinnie says:

Miguel Veloso has been hot for years! It's about time you got on that Kickettes…
it's a good thing he's not at Sporting anymore though. it was hard to love him then,
being the Benficista that i am and all. i cannot wait to see him in action next Euro
now that Portugal have qualified–viva a seleccção!

in other news, Sergio looked hot as hell during the Spain match, and to the delight of all
removed his shirt and showed off his tantalizing physique at the end of the game.
surely this was to a way to dissuade the Roja fans' disappointment over the mediocre scoreline.

    • Sarah, Madrid says:

I am actually a bit disappionted, I expected a shirtless Ramos, he was owning my screen!, I wasn't that angry with the perfomance 11 hours of travelling, to play a uselss game, la roja was very tired and I understand it + Iniesta, Silva made it up at least for me in the second half.

  19. Gladys says:

What a vertical photo assault of hotness, Kickette! Thanks! Boca looking all-massive, Sturridge's kiss face, Puyi who seems positively allergic to shirts, and that hilarious Muppet-like photo of Cris.

And congrats to both Argentina and Chile for WCQ wins. What a relief after the weekend results.

  20. Sarah, Madrid says:

Congrats for San iker for his 127 caps in Spain, thank you Iniesta and Silva for being the talented self, lesson for today for la Roja: Iker Casillas stick with being GK, no midfield career for Iker or dribbling at all ( seriously how cute he is on his fb saying how twitter is enjoying his mistake :P ).

As for Euro qualification, Congrats Portugal, Cris was sensational, true leader, as for lesson for today for Bosnia fans ( dont anger the CRIS)! Congrats rest qualified teamst, Ireland especailly!

    • DebS says:

Silva's a fantastic player. Cesc just wasn't having a good game, imo. Glad VDB finally put Silva in as he helped get Spain back in the game.
