Nemanja Vidić: Announcements & Anniversaries
Please remember that when switching on a hot robot, stand well back and be prepared to run like hell if he wakes up grumpy. He looks fluffy enough here, but he could backfire at any moment. Image: REUTERS/Bogdan Cristel.
Serbia national team captain, Nemanja Vidić, has announced his retirement from international football, effective immediately. The Manchester United defender has cited criticism from the press and the public regarding his attitude towards the NT as a factor in his decision, but thanked fans for their support during his 56 cap, two goal tenure.
For reference, Serbia failed to qualify for Euro 2012.
On a less surprising note, we neglected to mention Nemanja’s birthday last Friday. We’d like to tell you that it was because we had inside knowledge of his looming retirement, and thus were waiting to double up on stories for efficiency’s sake, but that would be a big fat lie.
Happy (belated) birthday, Vida! We hope your elbows got all the grease they demanded!

I have a LOT of love for Captain Fantastic, I'm sure he still has plenty more brilliant football to give us and…..mmmm……he's a proper man……nom.
Vidic, you are awesome!
That is one hot "senior citizen"!
