Nike’s New France Away Kit: One Stripe Too Many?
Image and video via soccerbible.com
It was announced way back in 2008 that Nike was going to be designing the French National Team’s kits from 2011-2018 and we totally forgot about it waited with baited breath to see the results.
The home kit was unveiled in January and while it is simple and nice, it is not nearly as tight as the Adidas kit Les Bleus sported during the 2010 World Cup. In the eyes of millions and millions of Kickettes around the globe, this is a potential fail.
Nike released photos of the French NT 2011/12 away kit today and we are just plain conflicted. The photos were shot by the legendary Karl Lagerfeld (he of Chanel, Fendi, and his own line), but he did not have a hand in designing them.
The stripes make it look a little bit like a gondolier’s outfit. Or perhaps this is a nod to the iconic French Breton stripe? The Nautical look is kind of in right now, but it doesn’t exactly scream “rugged hotness” or inspire us to want to tear it off of the ripped bods that will be wearing them.
Help us, Kickettes. Have a look at the video below (en français, of course) and tell us if this is one to skip or pre-order. Or does it not matter because Yoann, Florent & Co. can make anything look hot?

Nice post. I used to be checking continuously this blog and I am inspired! Extremely helpful info particularly the remaining section
I maintain such info much. I was seeking this particular information for a long time. Thanks and best of luck.
Yes, it is a simple design but a brilliant one as people around the world identify the marine stripes with France. So much classier looking (as is their new home kit) than the brash designs of the past. Très chic. J'adore!
I seriously don’t like it when Nike designs the jerseys. I always prefer Adidas jerseys with it’s stripes. I don’t like these new jerseys that much an I think that the French kits in South Africa where really great.
so fashion! so french! love it.
i quite love this new kit and think karim will look great in it. It will accentuate his lovely nose! All the rest of you girls can take yoann, karim and his nose are mine!
The only gripe i have is that it's nike–screw nike! they should have stuck with adidas, regardless of the breton stripes or not (diehard adidas fan here).
They’re going to look like mines out there. Who’s going to take them seriously?
I like them!
Yoann can make breton stripes look good, he IS Breton. Kisses from Brittany, France
Tu es de Bretagne? La famille de mon mari est de Concoret à côté de Paimpont. Un grand bonjour de Paris.
La marinière is not only from Brittany. France navy wear it since the XIX century and JP Gaultier popularized la marinière on the 80's

as an adidas worker i really don’t like it lol
I love the Breton stripe! Very French, clean and classy.
The Nike dude took it a little too far…I mean it looks great, it just doesn't look like a football kit.
Anything baby lashes wears is delicious and even if the outfit is ugly it will just inspire us all to tear it off his incredibly ripped and sexy body in less than a second
This is a motherfucking FRENCH present, bitches! appreciate!
I really like it.
I love the new kit!
omg!!! its not ugly but….. some people think that Karim Benzema is a bit chunky as he is ( to me he is perfect) but with horizontal stripes??????????
Lol my sentiments exactly!! They're all going to look too…chunky.
But I do love blue and white. It does look a bit tooo plain though.
more like 30 stripes too many. ew.
I love it….and it does look very french
I LOVE THIS!!!! I need it in my life… *sigh
But I'm biased because I love stripes and Karl Lagerfeld.
Just imagine Yoyo Gourcuff werking the sh*t out of this kit!!!! HOT!
I liked it, along with the home kit.
It's original, very french.
yaaay that i understand french !
i find its one of those kits that you could wear casually.
i love that inside the shirt it says
"nos differences nous unissent"
basically meaning our differences unite us.
but its nice and simple
I actually don't mind the stripes. I think they'll help make the french team look different from the other teams without a doubt, but I do think they'll make the men's hot bods look better too!
I think it's very classy and cool!
This was the best they could do? It's just a stripped shirt with some symbols on it. Karl should have designed it.
it actually does represent Coco Chanels personal style when she was young.
Yoann Gourcuff can make a binbag look sexy. I'm not worried about this kit!
does this one look like a jersey or like a normal t-shirt???????!!!!!!!………….boooring
all new kits are looking cheap
i doesnt mean that they look ugly but they look toooo basic
some kits look like cheap polo shirts or others just like normal t-shirts………..not very creative
Well with football kits I figure you've got to be thinking not just of the pros but the tubby fanboys who wear them threadless every day in the pub and the supermarket. So with that in mind ….. maybe the designers were thinking stripes = slimming?
(I actually think it looks great, really distinctive).
Breton stripes on Yoann…chic AND I'd tear them off him anytime!
Also, I might be in a minority but I like Les Bleus home kit, the polo neck is stylish in its own way – very suitable for France.
Another one over here
)) when I first saw home kit on Yoann……OoH LA LA
))
I should amend my statement to "chic, but not chic enough to stop me tearing them off Lashes"!
And Lashes in home kit….PHWOAR!!!! *fans self*
HAHA Funny how Diarra and Blanc both said that its the kind of shirt that catches the eyes… but judging by the tone of their voices you're not sure it's for the better
Va falloir assumer les gars!!
It's France captain Alou Diarra not the other…
Well Anelka's got a twin
Thanks BTW x
I'm thinking of the striped prison uniforms from years and years ago?
I agree with you kickette, immediately made me think of Bretagne (in my humble opinion the best part of France). I like it. Prefer the home kit, but you know lashes will be rocking this as well.
It immediately made me think of the Breton stripe, which to me seems iconically French and chic to boot. I like it.
I am inspired to tear off whatever Yoann wears.
I could design a nicer kit in 5 minutes with my eyes closed.
I love it this is a " marinière" it's a french symbol !! Yoann in marnière !!! Can't wait
