Now Boarding: Netherlands & Portugal

Images: REUTERS/Rafael Marchante.

The Dutchies made their smartly dressed in blazers and jeans way through Schiphol Airport earlier today to catch their flight to Euro 2012. As assumed, Wesley Sneijder looked naively nummy while Robin van Persie was double teamed by two women (understandably so).

The Oranje’s goodbye was a more upbeat affair than the send off Cristiano Ronaldo and his international colleagues received over the weekend. We think.

After nine Portugal NT players were subjected to random UEFA drug tests, and following the squad’s final training session in the capital, the team embarked on a makeshift parade. Things supposedly went downhill once folks in the crowd started taunting C-Ron with Leo Messi chants in retaliation of the player allegedly refusing to sign a young fan’s Barcelona jersey.

Since we don’t really know what happened, let’s all refrain from making assumptions and just get drunk and ogle. Beginning with a glass of vodka on the rocks and ending with the hottest deer in headlights, Ibrahim Afellay.

I think that if in fact da story is true than he must have had a reason not 2 sign her shirt his a father for goodness sake all parents luv kids so he probably didn’t hav tym 2 sign it but I don’t appreciate da father selling da story nd making a big deal out of it,this story jst rally bores me

  7. Karen says:

Sneijder needs another hairtransplant, this time on the back of his head. Maybe he can get some of his missus. I love her hair.

  8. lucy says:

Kickette, please please please pictures of Ibrahim Afellay
every day during the time the Dutch are in the tournament!

    • Karen says:

Afellay is still single, girls! And he lives in Barcelona….

      • Shanon says:

        And RVP too please.

      • Denise says:

Wow, his future girl must be a lucky woman! He seems to be a decent guy and a wonderful player. He lost his father when he was 8, he and his brother and sisters were raised by his Moroccan mother. She did a good job, they all do well in society. Not easy if you know how the Dutch blame the Moroccan community for all that is wrong in their country.

  9. RealFan7 says:

First, Cristiano looked too HOT in that suit. There are pictures of him meeting Portugal's president and he is beautiful. Second, I don't understand why everyone has to make such a huge deal out of all these stories. It's always somebody trying to give bad PR to CR. Why would you ask any player to sign a jersey of a rival team or player. Why would you even wear a Barca jersey if you are going to see CR's team. It's not like you are randomly walking down the street and happen to run into CR. You went to send off the Portugese national team. You wouldn't seek out Argentina's national team and then ask Messi to sign Ronaldo's Real Madrid jersey. Or even wear Ronaldo's jersey to meet Messi. Buy the kid a Portugal jersey to have it signed. Did anyone cosider that maybe CR had to keep moving along with the team and didn't have time to sign for every single person there?? NO, they were all too busy badmouthing Cristiano.

  10. Kristina says:

I hope the Dutch team refrains from the Kung Fu this time around. If they play as sweet as Ibi looks, then I'll give them a cheer.

As for the Cristiano thing, I have a hard time believing it.

  11. Sarah, Madrid says:

It is just a story that the dad said, he wasn't even there, he said came and saw his daugther crying! from the story he wasn't even there for the incident!!! How did the little girl knnow that he didn't sign for her because she was wearing the jersey? did Cristano tell her that?
I don't know how can you believe this story for no proof of a picture or video, only a dad version of story of why he didn't sign his daugther! Sorry, this story just doesn't make sense..

  12. Yasmin says:

Affelay!!!, you're really spoiling us Kickette!! :)

  13. Natalie says:

I like that the dutch are so relaxed in their "uniform". Looks really cool against the suits

  14. kumiko says:

God bless Kickette for putting up an Ibi Afellay pic. The icing on the cake!

  15. con2e says:

Don't know if this true or not, I can't imagine him being that twatish, but any team that has Pepe on it, I can only hope they crash and burn at the Euro's!

    • con2e says:

love the thumbs down! Who in their right mind would defend Pepe! What losers you are , lol

  16. Kat says:

I won't go so far as saying I hope he didn't sign the jersey, but can people really blame him for not doing it (if the story is indeed true)? Asking a Real Madrid player to sign a Barca jersey? That's like asking a Laker to sign a Celtics jersey, or a NY Yankee to sign a Red Sox uniform. In short, it's unthinkable. And if it wasn't a kid we're talking about here, I would say it was a prank.

    • chay says:

This shirt story is a bit weird, really. According to the article, it says she says that he refused to give her an autograph because she was wearing a Barça shirt. I don't know if she actually wanted him to sign the shirt itself. And was it that he was going down a row of fans and then brazenly snubbed her? It doesn't say whether he was signing autographs and then saw her and snubbed her, you know what I mean? From what I could gather, he didn't sign any autographs at all.

And frankly, I'm not really understanding why Iker signed a Barça shirt when he plays for Madrid. I can understand a paper autograph, or even on a body part (*indicates to self*) to someone wearing a Barça shirt, but not signing an actual Barça shirt. That is just odd.

      • Gladys says:

Cesc was handed an Ozil shirt a few months ago to sign and did and everyone thought it was really weird. I imagine re: Iker and Cesc that you just sign whatever's in front of you to avoid controversy with the press and to do your duty with the fans. At a certain point it's probably just automatic.

As for the CR7 story, it all seems a little odd and hard to believe. Who knows. The press loves to stir up controversy. Hopefully it's not true.

        • Sarah, Madrid says:

although in La Roja camp it is ok to see a Madrid jersey, but in Portugal why? it is like going with an Argentine jersey to Brazil!
However, I really believe for those guys, they don't pay attention to what they are signing really close, he get a jersey he signed, I remember pictures of Mourinho signing Messi jersey, barca too!
As for the story, these players don't actual sign for every person they meet, some does but Cristano isn't one of them, they will sign few and leave! the story could have happened, but the reasoing is just 100% media controversy, there was even a question today to Cristano about his relation with the media in Marca in a great interview (I might say), how he used to media firing at him, hasn't been easy, but he is has to take it.

    • Kristina says:

But wouldn't it be a bit like conquering the other team to sign their jersey? Anyway, I think you should just sign whatever is put in front of you (well, perhaps not everything ;) ) if you're a big star and a grown up. With that said, I'm not sure I believe this story.

    • drea says:

If Cris didn't want to sign a Barcelona shirt, I totally understand. When Iker signed a Barca jersey, it wasn't a big deal because most of the Barca guys are his teammates on the Spanish NT and he's their captain. He wouldn't show any disdain for that shirt because many of the guys who wear it are actually his friends.

But for Cris, it's very different. His life in Spain is only about Real Madrid. He has no other dealings with Barca except as rivals, and let's face it, enemies whose supporters have been very rough on him. So why would he sign their shirt? The funny thing is that if he had, THAT would be the big story and you can be certain someone would spin it to make sure he incurred the ire of the Madrid fans.

    • Noni says:

but shes 10!! A little girl

  17. Jess says:

I HOPE cris didn't sign a young fans Barca jersey. Give him a piece of paper, your arm, your face! That is basically treason in Real Madrid world, and I don't care how old this kid was!

    • sarah says:

yeah and plus her father was soooooo silly. if this thing happened,u know.

    • EvilBean says:

Nobody said he didn't wan't to sign a Barca jersey. The father said CR7, didn't wan't to give her an autograph because she was wearing a Barca jersey. But that's the fathers version.

I don't know which story is true, but as much as I respect him (even as a Barca fan) for not signing a Barca jersey, if the fathers version of the story is true, he lost my respect as an adult man.

    • DebS says:

I agree with you. I can totally understand why he wouldn't sign an autograph for someone in a Barca jersey.

  18. Loninha - Brasil says:

Who said that the Euro is just football, it is also style and elegance! I can not wait to see the Italians! The Germans are now in Poland and arrived well dressed, Mario Gomez as always a delight to look at and enjoy!

  19. Fan-Demanium says:

This is our year!!! Holland is going to hoist the Euro Cup high! If you don't believe me, give this a watch!

  20. sarah says:

  23. IrishBlue says:

    Afellay <3<3<3<3
    RVP <3<3<3<3

  24. Gladys says:

Oh my, Afellayi!! I think I need an oxygen tank to recover from that photo. Not only is he the walking talking picture of gorgeosity, but he scored two awesome goals (and one assist) yesterday. Ibi is back! (Barca, please don't sell him.)

Also, the Dutch sure know how to dress, don't they? They always look good in their traveling clothes. So simple and yet so handsome.

  25. AC_USA says:

Afellay my babyyyyy :) )))) So cute :)

  26. LizzyHS90 says:

What is going on with CRon's hair?

    • GlamGooner says:

True story, never thought his hair could get more OTT

    • drea says:

Saw some old Cris photos a few days ago and I remember thinking, "well at least he's outgrown those crazy hair days." WRONG.
