Players Who Puff: Do Or Don’t?

Image: 7MSport.

Bit of a hoopla in the press today about Mario Balotelli’s latest late night excursion involving a bevy of ‘beauties’ piling into his white Bentley GT. Horrendous fashion aside, the Man City player was photographed smoking a fag at some point in the evening.

What’s your take on cigarettes and athletes, Kickettes? We can’t understand why anyone who needs to be strong of lung and body would smoke, but a lot of footie players do.

Ugh to both the smoking and the fashion. Both are disgusting. I've had several family members die from smoking-related illnesses, and it is the only thing that triggers my asthma. I can climb mountains, chase gang members, and run from angry bulls without any problem, but the minute I pass someone smoking on the street, I nearly die. Needless to say, it's a deal breaker for me, no matter how attractive of a guy is.

I wonder what Mancinni is going to do. I can picture him saying "Oh, Mario *sigh*" (while patting Mario on the head) When will you learn?"

On a side note…..the girl wearing the light-orange color dress, dark hair in a bun……totally makes me think Kim Kardashian!!!

He's a kid with a lot of money and freedom which he never had, so he's exploring…There are his college years and if you acted super responsible at all times in college, you did it wrong.

I am not sure what he did wrong here. He's single (it seems) and on the prowl. If no one gets hurt, what is the problem..

Smoking is dumb but he's not the first baller to do it and won't be the last. Berba, Ziazu, etc. all smoke

  4. He will never be mature,I personally think that his IQ is too low for anything than kicking a ball :/

I know smoking does wonders for stress but that's still no excuse. They're supposed to have great lung capacity. Honestly I thought this kind of behaviour would be banned. I know Mourinho made Coentrao quit smoking after he was caught last year.

    • DebS says:

I agree. Surely they realize the damage they are doing to the lungs that they need at their healthiest to compete in the top level. I was really surprised about Coentrao considering one of his BFFs on the team is CR7 who refuses to put anything that's not healthy in his body.

Smoking for any guy is a huge NO! I don't want to be kissing an ashtray
    'Ballers are no exception.

  7. Kristina says:

Smoking is a pretty stupid thing to do regardless. But please, what's with the shoes those gals are wearing?! They're horrendous! Why do men want to date women that look like hookers? Sorry, having a bad day.

    • Gladys says:

Ha, I was thinking the same thing. Their outfits bother me much more than Mario smoking. They're trying way too hard; meanwhile the fellas are all comfortable in hoodies and jeans. It's a funny pairing. [Says grumpy New Yorker who's motto is to only wear shoes she can run away from someone in.]

    • EternalDreamer says:

I guess I have just gotten so used to seeing these women out at clubs that I hardly even notice anymore when they dress like a lady of the evening. I must say though, I don't think that these gentlemen want to "date" these ladies!

    • Mora says:

Bad day or good day no matter what they still do look like a hookers! But I wouldn't expect anything else from him anyway lol!

On the salaries they're on and the risks to their earnings and career of a bad season or two it's remarkable that more footballers don't just adopt the whole "my body is my temple" thing full on like James Milner. They can smoke and drink as much as they want when they're 35 and retired! I am sort of amazed that their contracts don't forbid smoking (I thought they contractually agreed they can't do a bunch of miscellaneous stuff, like ride motorbikes or bungee jump). The funny thing is that I'm convinced they do it just because they think it looks cool/hard, not to relax or to hang out outside the pubs with friends or because they started smoking early, which is a bit …. pathetic. As if these guys didn't come across as cocky teenage tryhards most of the time anyway.

(The photo of the women lining up to get in the car, however, is hilarious. Some life these fellas have!)

if i were making millions for sport, i'd probably smoke at home to be above reproach. but, he and the doctors i see in scrubs don't seem to mind being spotted in scrubs with a cig.

  10. Donna says:

What an idiot. He is disreputing his teams. And that "he is young, let him live it up" does not apply to him nymore because he is 21…expect more maturity Mario

    • Nissan says:

I really thought after the tantrums towards the end of last season, Mario would be axed from City. Even Mancinni had said he wasn't sure he wanted Mario there any longer.

Mario balotelli is slowly going to end up as one of those players who will b dragged to rehab!!i mean, this is becoming to much!!
