Quote of the Day: Melanie Slade

image

“When we have an argument Theo accuses me of being waggy, a real insult. I hate the stereotype – the shopping all day long, the short dresses and massive sunglasses. I would never want to be associated with those women.”

–Melanie, as quoted in the June 2008 issue of FHM

Fair enough, Mel dearest, but isn’t posing half nekkid for FHM’s June issue a tad on the ‘typical’ and stereotypical side? And what the heck happened with that whole climbing Mount Kilamanjaro thing? Is that still happening?

Random: These pics are of Mel and Theo attending a Get Britain Breastfeeding event. Theo is a celebrity endorser for the Breastfeeding Manifesto.

    hahahha , sorry I just find that ridiculous. <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/smile.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="smile" style="border:0;" />

    Nate

  2. No surprise then that in May 2006, UK Tabloid newspaper The Sun offered Ms. Slade

  3. Tres Bien says:

Good to see I’m not the only one who’s over this girl. I was hoping she would break the mold but she’s repetitive.

Good for Theo to be a breastfeeding endorser. I don’t think anyone here realizes how important it is to breastfeed their children.

  4. ballack's missing hair says:

    brandy wins.

  5. Sarah says:

Hahaha, MrsXA I thought of that too! It’s kind of sweet though, like a little kid calling their friend a doo-doo-head.

  6. MrsXabiAlonso says:

I’ve just realised something. When Theo and Mel are arguing the biggest insult he can muster is ‘you’re waggy!!‘. Come on boy!! Try harder! Christ he really is like a puppy.

  7. Roxy00 says:

erm…no u dont want to be a WAG but i wonder who bought u the prada bag sweetheart!!! you obviously dont mind that aspect of it do you!!!

  8. Two Yellows says:

There are so many smartass sarcastic comments that could come from this, but I’m too exhausted to think of any. I think Carly’s hair came and attacked me in the night, later setting up house on top of my roof and allowing woodpeckers to move in. Either that or some raccoons were getting naughty right above my bed.

  9. Tracy says:

I used to like her,you know? I remembered she told the press before she was going to concentrate on her books and ignore the limelight. She sounded so sweet.
Now, what she does is a complete turnaround! Blabbing to the press and doing photoshoots for FHM! Excuse me, what? More like pot caliing the kettle black!
Lastly, I just detest those annoying little WAGS who pronounce their un-WAGness. Look honey, if you are not Cheryl or Victoria who have done it on their own, just shut your trap alright? It’s not like she can afford her Prada or get into FHM if she was still a shopgirl at Southampton. Urghh, I’m so over you Melanie.

  10. cassie says:

i don’t really have much of an opinion about her….but what i think is strange is that she is famous for being a WAG, that’s why we are talking about her and she’s appeared in a magazine. it’s okay to hate being called that term/phrase, but that’s what you ARE. you are famous for being a WAG, not for being smart, decent looking, a mountain climber, etc. i mean if she thinks she’s getting attention and offers for magazine spreads based on what she herself has accomplished she’s living in a dream world.

that seems mean, sorry, but sometimes the truth hurts…if you don’t like being grouped witht those girls either drop theo or get over it.

  11. Dolce says:

I’m sorry, but I just have a really hard time listening to trash-talkin’ by somebody who doesn’t even look old enough to drive…but, hey, that’s just me. smirk

  12. xlxcx says:

To be completely honest, her hair is awful. I’d prefer she do Carly’s attempted post-sex hair then that mop she has on her head. She always looks… wet?

  13. FabLove says:

They’re cute together. I love Theo, he’s so ADORABLE!

  14. Signora Maldini says:

This honest to god made me roll in laughter.

    Denial much, Melanie?

  15. klyn312 says:

Mel needs to keep her little trap zipped before she makes her self look even more hypocritical.. (we WILL remember her statements when she is all uber WAG-ed out!)

I would love to believe Theo was all about supporting the cause but at his age, I have a feeling he tuned out after the “breast” part and didn’t hear the whole feeding thing… either way, it’s good to see some positive PR now and again.

  16. jax says:

Dear little Mel is considered ‘intelligent’as WAGS go – clearly not bright enough to realise that the only reason anyone is prepared to listen to anything that comes out of her mouth or give her pictorials is because she, quite deifintiely, is a WAG.

I can’t be doing with WAGS bitching about other WAGS….that’s our job and we love it !!

  17. Becca x says:

I Quite Like Mel. Well I Did. Why Do They All Say ‘Im Not A Typical WAG blah blah blah’?
Your Going Out With A Footballer. Your A WAG. End Of.

  18. Aestus says:

oops, that would be ‘bag’, not bad…

  19. Aestus says:

“I hate the stereotype” she says as she oh-so-casually carries her Prada bag with her hand perfectly positioned so as to flash her platinum and diamond ring!

It is a rather nice bad though…

  20. carly says:

Ok, breastfeeding is a good cause but it strikes me as a little odd to see such a young man so involved in such cause…Whatever.

And Mel…yes, contradictory to say the least. And if she doesn’t want the WAG lifetsyle I might take it for a day or two… <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/shade_hmm.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="cool hmm" style="border:0;" />

  21. mrsredknapp says:

has anyone read this article about the wags fashion crimes?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/femail/article.html?in_article_id=563398&in_page_id=1879

quite funny – some of the outfits are awful!

  22. mrsredknapp says:

“never want to be associated with these women” – great way to make friends there Melanie!

  23. tammyv says:

People only care about her opinion because she is bedding a baller and is doing the WAG-wannabe required sexed-up, skimpy shoot in FHM? Fantastic!!!!!!

Think she understands irony and hypcracry yet?

  24. Sarah says:

Random note: She looks a little like Tara Reid in the first picture.

  25. Sarah says:

I adore Theo. And they’re cute together, so I don’t really mind her.

  26. MrsXabiAlonso says:

Melanie – Who are ya?? Keep quiet little girl. I do not like her.

Theo – I wanna put him in my pocket and carry him around all day, only taking him out to sqeeze his little cheeks (on his FACE) and feed him grapes and ice cream. He such a cutie.

  27. Oh, I see now how he got involved. His mum was with La Leche League. Good for him once again.

  28. Meh. Don’t care about her. Can’t see her hanging around for long. Theo is adorable though.

Breastfeeding? Well done, Theo. Not that I quite understand how a single male with no children got involved in a campaign supporting breastfeeding, but still, well done. It’s the healthiest choice for mother and baby.

  29. LoveLamps says:

Ok enough teasing Kickette. You killed us with a late Thigh Off last night. Where’s the updated Finest Five list with the CHELSEA player? Just say FRANK!!!!

  30. LoveLamps says:

Kickette, you are so spot on! Melanie, get over yourself already. It’s time Posh smacked you down little girl. You WISH you looked as good as some of the other WAGS (Posh, Cheryl) in short dresses and big sunglasses. Embrace the lifestyle or dump the man.

  31. Gigi Neville-Brown says:

Maybe because they are young and fairly innocent looking, they don’t bother me. But I sense a real pain in the ass Wag in Training here.

appear37? Kickette, are you trying to tell me that I look my age, and should start acting it? Never!

  32. sarabee says:

Theo is a celebrity endorser for the Breastfeeding Manifesto?

As in “Bitty, Bitty” a la Little Britain?

    Gross.

  33. Theo is just a baby himself so no wonder he’s all for breast feeding.

As for Melanie, she’s young and stupid and can’t keep her clothes from falling off, obviously. She seemed quite sweet at the time of the World Cup but a few years on, she thinks she’s *it*. She needs a slap down from Cheryl or Posh.

She is a WAG!! Dump Theo, lose the tag, hon!

  34. SuzyQ says:

EXACTLY! As if they would post their email address for real.
    *snore*

  35. Rusty says:

Suzy, I was surprised when the alleged Rebecca posted an e-mail address. Surely the actual Rebecca Ellison wouldn’t do that.

  36. SuzyQ says:

Loving Theo… he should be up for consideration on the FF list Kickette!

I just read the Alex thread – pulleease! As if that’s them… Surely Kickette logs the IP addys of people who come on here.. Please Kickette – out them!!

  37. Rusty says:

Dani, I thought that thread was over! OMF that’s hilarious! An actual appearance of “WAGs”! EVERYONE GO LOOK AT THE “ALEX IN THE STANDS” THREAD! They can’t possibly be real; they have better things to do with their time (and I don’t mean shopping).

Last night I dreamt I had Cheryl hair. I don’t think my hair does fringe right now, but I’d sure like her music career, I’d do amazing things with it considering I have perfect pitch. I’d drop the husband, though.

Sarah, I agree, Melanie looks like Tara Reid.

  38. michelle TN says:

Yeah it seems sort of weird that Theo would endorse such a thing but after all of you ladies gave out some more information about it all, it’s kind of cool for a male to stand for a cause that is a rather feminine issue.

  39. Moongirl (Mrs Sender says:

Was she not quoted as saying how lovely and friendly the other wags were during the world cup and how she admired them?

  40. dani,,Premier League says:

    and someone actually thinks they are alex curran <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/snake.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="snake" style="border:0;" />

  41. dani,,Premier League says:

    ahhh im annoyed

girls we are being majorly slaggd off in the alex in the stands thread

and so is kickette but it looks like im fighting that battle single handedly

    and back on topic
    haha love the quote

  42. FT9FTW says:

    Never say never, Mel. <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/raspberry.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="raspberry" style="border:0;" />

Erugh, there’s something about her I don’t like. Theo, on the other hand, is adorable as ever!

  43. FootballerChick43 - says:

Oh vomit. She makes me ill.

I’m away laughing on a fast camel at Theo. A breastfeeding campaign? What the shizz.
I’ll add that to the “Random Things Footballers Endorse” list.

  44. marmitey says:

theo has layers… ha, ha – no, he’s just like bitty.

i bet he get a load of jip from the arsenal players. poor lad. good for him for offering his support (in all senses of the word <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/tongue_laugh.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="tongue laugh" style="border:0;" />) to a great cause.

  45. EJS says:

The reason Theo is supporting the breastfeeding thing is because his mum is a midwife and has a lot to do with this thing. its not some weird fetish *lol*

At least Mel is getting herself a career and not sponging off her bf. shes starting a physio course at uni in September.

and the “whole Kilimanjaro thing” happened last September

  46. brandy says:

Well, I like her. It’s a fine line between being a WAG by definittion (fiancee of a footballer) and acting like a typical one, ie getting piss drunk at a pub in small dresses and falling in front of the paps, being snapped leaving Cricket all the time, being on vacation while your man is playing in important games etc… I think that is the distinction she is making here. And just because she is with Theo doesn’t mean she has to be friends with his mates’ WAGS, hell I’d rather be a loner than have to sit and smile and their chattering.

Good on you Mel. I’ve always thought you sounded like you had some sense. Good luck in holding on to it with all that fodder circling about you.
