Raging: The Pitch Makes it Good

imageimage

It’s a curious thing, footballer rage. We’ve all seen players we love/hate/are indifferent to displaying various levels of anger and testosterone excess on the pitch. 99.9% of the time, regardless of the background to the situation, we’re… well, let’s put it this way: angry footballers give us the feelings.

Case in point: whenever David Beckham finds himself in a spot of bother- ie this half drama at a recent Galaxy match that involved a choke hold – we are enthralled. We revel in the sneer and loll around in the macho. We have watched this video more times than we’ve clicked “checkout” in our online designer shopping cart.

Funny thing is, in real life, if we’ve ever been out with a man that has issues with rage, be it of the road or bad waitressing variety, we’re totally put off. Overt displays of jackassery and mouthiness are far from sexy.

David Beckham in a bit of argy-bargy involving strangulation = hot. Your partner attempting a WWE move outside the pub = don’t want it, not interested, you’re embarrassing your entire family lineage, I am speed dialing a mini cab.

It’s the pitch. It has magical powers that make acting bad look so very good.

it's such a shame they tamed rooney, he used to be lots of fun. of and do you remember that Portugal-Holland game back in2006? wonderful. then againt here are fights like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Zmg4CXSgdY

  2. I’d have to agree. On the pitch- hot! Off it- Not so much.

And also, it does depend on who’s doing the angry young man bit, Torres, Villa, Ibrahimovic, Vidic they can pull it of. Not so much Drogba, Anelka or even Benzema for that matter.

And even then, doing it too much would just have me label them as whiners. A rare display of emotions is what I much prefer.

  3. Paxy says:

I can deal with it on the pitch. But not when it’s absurdly affecting the game. Like once a game is alright, but more than that, it’s just like really boys? play the game

  4. FootballerChick43-"Mrs.Ballack" says:

I can accept it on the pitch. Off of it… errrr, no thanks.

  6. Raina says:

I'm not a fan of it ever….unless it's super justified.

  7. DaniMrsPepeReina says:

the pitch definately makes it hot, the only time i like it is on the pitch especially nando and his bitchface !

  8. carly says:

Yeah, it's the pitch. I love me some pitch aggro. :)

But Beckham angry or not leaves me cold, cold, cold.

  9. Baby Freya says:

So true, the pitch makes angry turn hot! Nando and his pissy remarks and ultimate bitchfaceness at refs practically every game is just GUH! And who can forget the Carra vs Arby spat that was too hot for me to handle!

  10. Sarah says:

I only find it hot when it's justified. Or anytime Cesc plays Chelsea, hahaha.

  11. Katie says:

    Exactly!

I have no idea why but hostility expressed on the pitch is hot. Off; not so much.

It depends though. If it's a player I don't like at all; like say…Ashley Cole, any show of inflamed testosterone is even more of a turn off.

When Nemanja was giving bitch face for 90 minutes V Tottenham I was enthralled. He may not be "pretty" enough to rival the bitchery perfected by Torres but when he gives face, you know not to say a word.

    I loved it.

    Too funny.
