Random Association: Adrian Mutu, Secret Bans
image via Newscom
Happy belated b-day to the delectable Adrian Mutu, who turned 30 yesterday. He’s so yum.
Remember the good old days when Adrian was embedded on our Finest Five list and had yet to watch his bank balance slowly be reduced to that of a lowly regular? Sweet memories.
Another, not quite so happy memory, was when Adrian got the boot from Chelsea in 2004 after testing positive for cocaine – and now it looks like there are a few other players that have been placed under manners by their clubs for using the same drug.
The Independent says:
“…Two professional players are coming to the end of secret bans, of three months and five months, after testing positive for a metabolite of cocaine, earlier this season.“
Interesting bit of gossip, no? Can you think of any EPL players who have been incognito for a few months? Or could you care less what the boys get up to off-pitch, as long as they make it happen on game day?

Hmmm, i really cant think who it could be. :S anyone know any inside goss?
I can think of a more then a few Newcastle players that have disappeared
don't you think a simple Happy Birthday to Mutu would have been enough?

Haha sweet_dreamz, that’s the first name I thought of too. I refuse to believe it though! Tomas is no druggie, he’s just (as my brother says) our “chronic invalid”.
They’re not premier league players, the article’s fairly clear on that. I’d say Championship?
To get career promitions. Good it certification exams are helpful incluing:

Two Pompey players: Sol Campbell and Hermann Hreidarsson have been out for between 3 to 5 months….
(Happy Birthday Adi!!)
tut tut… ooo this is hard *tries to think of who it could be*
Drugs are always bad. People who use drugs always need help. Making people's drug problems public isn't helpful. Players can't be allowed to play when they are known drug users. They need to be supported and the problem dealt with in confidence until they are drug free and can resume playing duties.
Of course everyone should care about players' drug use, because, hey, drugs are bad. That's a no brainer, Kickette. I think that a club would try to "cover up" a ban like this by putting the player on the long-term injury list. And there are few of those this year. But I wouldn't speculate.
Oh many EPL players treat good old 'columbian marching powder' as if it's some sort of dietary supplement. Hmm, but I wonder who else has been inhaling Charlie?
There are a lot of injured players that we don't get frequent updates about now that I think of it…. hhhmmmmmmmm. very sad.
ohh, i have no idea who they could be.. if anyone finds out, tell me
I can't think of any. Maybe I'm too innocent to believe in the injuries the clubs tell us of…
Happy Birthday, Adrian Mutu. As for the secret bans… no idea.
Ah, yes, love the “secret ban”- guess what kids, drugs are okay, because you might get sidelined for a little bit, but you’ll be back on that pitch earning your millions soon enough! It’s like the great baseball player, Pete Rose once told a group of young players- Drugs are the way to go in sports, you can still get into the hall of fame if you’ve been in trouble for drugs!
I can’t think of any. Maybe I’m too innocent to believe in the injuries the clubs tell us of…
Oh Adrian my love! Yes one of my first footie loves and STILL on my finest five! Love you darling, even if you are now over 30. Now pay back that money honey so Chelsea can buy a new striker! xoxo
