Ryan Giggs: Mounted & Ready For Action

It’s like grown-up Subbuteo. For pervy people. Image: Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images Europe.

Admittedly there isn’t a great deal of room in our office, but if we ever had a reason to locate and work out how to switch on the vacuum cleaner, this would be it. Our own footballer. In all his glorious be-suited buffness. Willing and able to fulfill our every sordid fantasy.

And concreted to a plinth so he can’t escape if he changes his mind.

Javier Zanetti picked up the ‘Football Legend’ award. Which also involved shoe removal. Images: Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images Europe.

Oh, we’re just funning with ya. These images are not in fact a glimpse at the ‘special offers’ section in our office equipment catalogue.  They are shots of some of the internationally renowned players who gathered in Monaco last night for the Golden Foot Ceremony – a career award decided by a jury according to a set of rather random criteria.

The ten nominees for the Golden Foot included Javier Zanetti, Luis Figo and Xavi Hernandez, but it was veteran Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs who walked away (yeah, we’re funny, we know) with the prize, which, when you take all the unnecessary pomp out of it, is the opportunity to leave his footprints in some wet concrete.

Honestly though? We preferred our interpretation of the event.  But if you insist on being sensible, do you think Giggsy was the right man for the win? When you consider who he was up against?

OMG I just adore Javier Zanetti, the man exudes class and perfection. And he has the best thighs in the game, apart from being a legend on the pitch.. But I can live with Giggs receiving the award, his footy career should have earned him a ballon d'Or sadly it didn't.
Btw, is it just me or is Figo becoming hotter by the year? Beautiful couple him and Svedin.

Yeah, if I'm choosing a footballer-on-a-plinth for my office, it's def not going to be Ryan Giggs. You can't deny- and there's no reason to- the man's football achievements, and so I'd say he probably is the most deserving of that award. And he's still an awesome player, but sadly I will never, ever think of him again without thinking of him as the guy who shagged his brother's wife for nearly a decade. Very sad to see a legacy tarnished like that.

So happy for Giggsy! It's important to remind ourselves that this prize is about their achievements on the pitch. I don't like what has happened in his personal life, but he has been my football idol for years. Love the man. :)

All of the nominated parties deserved it, esp my two madridistas Iker and Raul! I actually wanted one of them to win, oh well!! There always next year..I hope they are nominated though!
