Euro 2008: A Sweet Spanish Victory

What can we say, it was a great game and we’re chuffed to bits for the lads.

We’re also still a little drunk and can’t seem to find our trousers.  But, whatevs.

A few random, yet important Spain/Euro winning bits:

Over the weekend, we shed some insight into our heavily non-researched belief – and proven theory – that attractive players were more likely to succeed at the Euros.  If you’re so inclined, please click over to the well-dressed crew at The Offside to read our take on sizzle and science.

Also, we never thought we’d ever be hating on champagne, but when it ends up blurring the camera angle set to Iker Casillas drunk off his arse, running around in his skanties, we have to put the smack down on the bubbly.  For at least five minutes.

Btw, the Iker-love is spreading throughout North America, and fast. Is it wrong/pathetic/pathetically wrong that we feel like proud mother hens whose insanely hot little chicken is being coveted by millions?

So thrilled that the good guys finally won, this is a great step forward for football. It looked so bleak after tiresome Greece winning the last Euro, and Italians and their defensive football becoming world champions. But this is so exciting! Íker in his underwear is more than I could ever hope for! Hating that champagne at the moment too (at the moment!!) but even a glimpse of him was enough to send my daydreams to a whole new level.

  2. tassha says:

    congrats to spain… i knew they'll get it…

  3. Dee13 (mrs m metze) says:

hahaha.. i hear ya rusty.. being a toronto maple leafs fan i have felt pain since day one and it's looking like they'll never win the stanley cup in my lifetime – 41 years and counting… :( i guess it was spain's time.. so glad your sox beat the yankees (can't stand them..!!) and as for being the weirdest of the already very weird on here – i just made it weirder by one more – i agree, germany's hotter… :) happy july 1st and july 4th to you too..! :)

  4. Brandy says:

That video was awesome! My question is why this doesn't happen at my house more often? The whole Spanish team in their skivvies jumping around and hugging throwing champagne around. When they say life isn't fair they weren't kidding!

  5. Jesse says:

Congrats to Spain and to Kickette. I will never again doubt the wisdom of Kicette

  6. DC says:

VIVA ESPAÑA!! i’m still high on the win so i have no other words.

  7. Red_Dahlia says:

Hi everybody! I’ve been here since I don’t know when and now i’ve decided to join you :) I’m so happy for the spanish boys. They deserved it so much. This guys are so nice and down to earth. But I’m sad that it’s over now.

  8. Hellfairy says:

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHahahahahahahahaiiihihihihihihihihihihihihihi *cough* Nothing more to say. Except: Why the hell is David Villa the absolutley only one who does not take his damn Shirt off? *cry*

  9. Villa*baby says:

Hellfairy, the same question…:/ Well, I think that it is a fact that he doesn’t own such a great body as some of them (eg. Iker, Ramos…), but anyway…:( I would like to see him shirtless…;) And, yeah, such a great video…;) P.S. And why there aren’t Cesc and Torres?:( Or maybe I haven’t seen them?

  10. Becca says:

Ohh, i could sit and watch that video all day
dont you just wish you were there?!
I have to say before kickette i didnt really know about iker, but now i love him :) !

I really like this team. Obviously, the hot-ness factor is a huge deal but they're so positive all the time. This win has a huge feel good factor – no nasty team politics, no egos (at least that we can clearly see). Just all around a great win — and in the end, all of footie benefits from such fab and classy winners. lose that girl blog

Congratulations to all of you who love the Spanish ballers! I know the pride you must be feeling that your beautiful boys won the Euro Cup — I had the same pride when my Red Devils won the Premiership and the Champions League (sorry, had to get another mention in there… haha). I did watch the final, and found it to be quite exciting. That Torres is quite the firecracker, and I appreciated all of his hard work to score that goal. Iker running round celebrating in not much of anything was the second-best thing about the final to me. The best part was watching Michael Ballack lose AGAIN. Mmmmmmwwwahahahahahaha! Love it!!

  13. Pau de Silva (aka Sambu) says:

VIVA ESPAÑA!! w0o0ow Kickette once more you prove you are a football authority!!! Congrats! and keep the celebration on!

I had to type a comment in word AGAIN, this time because I keep hitting the forward or back button in my browser, which makes my comment disappear. DEE: No, you?re not the only Ballack fan here. When the board ?chose players,? I claimed him and sometimes call myself ?Frau Ballack.? But the man was playing like carp, and I mean carp, because he was like a fish out of water. However, you?re right that some people here aren?t fans of his. …After typing this about six times, I?m becoming less and less able to congratulate. But I still want to wish congratulations to Spain and their fans, because, as a Boston Red Sox fan, I know that waiting that long for a championship is hard. (The Red Sox had to wait almost TWICE AS LONG!) On Sunday, Spain played better, therefore they deserved to win. (Since the two teams didn?t play every game against each other in the tournament, I don?t know who was better than whom throughout, heh.) Also, I can?t say I have a crush on anyone on the Red Sox so when they won last year, I was just feeling general joy rather than anything else. In 2004, I cried with joy when they beat the Yankees in the championship series. I try to be gracious in defeat and gracious in triumph because I can?t take it when someone gloats. (I have, unfortunately, gloated unintentionally, but I?m trying to stop.) Oh?that ?Campeones? song has a really catchy tune. ARRRGGH. Please remove from head NOW. And I still think Germany?s hotter than Spain, but evidently, on this board, that makes me the weirdest of the already very weird. I still like Iker, however. Oh, and happy whatever you celebrate to those of you in northern North America this week. I'm dressing up for both, which means I'll have to wash my red and white outfit, then accessorize it with blue.

  17. Sarah says:

Haha yeah Rusty, 44 years is nothing to a baseball fan! Try 100! I was really really happy for you guys when you won in '04, and now it's our turn. Odds are it won't take another 100 years to win one, so I'm gonna bet the Series title will come back to the right side of Chicago sometime during my lifetime. And I porobably just jinxed it…but anyways, I've totally diverted the conversation from the Spanish and that's uncool. Viva Espana!

  18. Erin says:

So thrilled for Spain!!!! Iker is ok, but how about that Fernando Torres and his beauty of a goal?! Outstanding! The team deserved it. They played well throughout the entire tournament–22 games unbeaten! And as LTG said below, there was just a real team chemistry. It wasn't a bunch of stars playing on the same pitch (a la England), but it was a real cohesive team who cared about each other and had real heart. I'm so ecstatic for them. And for me for getting to watch them! :)

  19. linz826 says:

Wow THANK YOU kickette for officially showing me some Spain hottness! I wanted both to win, but definitely Spain was hotter so I had to side with them (even tho I’m a Chelsea girl and wanted Ballack to win) but that video was simply heaven! This is why I love football…men dancing in champagne waterfalls in their underwear is priceless! Mucho gusto!! Congratulations Spain!

  20. Jim says:

Spain are a good team.  Good luck for Euro 2009.

You’re right they are pretty boys.

  21. gunnergirl says:

spain should win all the trophies in the world-just for us to see iker in underwear again and again!
very talented, very good looking players. best.team.ever.

  22. Michaela says:

To the FootballerChick43 -  I believe the guy on Ramos’ shirt is Antonio Puerta, the Spanish player who died early in the season from a heart attack.

  23. Adelaide says:

    OmG, Cesc Looks So Cute
    They Deservess the First Place
    So Cute Boy

  24. Sara says:

A well deserved win for Spain. I’m thrilled that they won. Spain entertained us with their hot football and hot ‘ballers.

  25. Ella says:

But… where’s Torres? I want Torres! Give me my Torres! *stomps foot on ground with tear in eye*

  26. Theresa says:

Spain were without doubt the deserved winners, as a portugese girlie (living in SA) i was a little bitter that my team bowed out so early, but watching spain win was worth it… They played constantly well and have a good, clean way of playing which is a pleasure to watch. I cant wait for the world cup in 2 years, hopefully i will get to meet some of the uber hot men then:) a girl can always dream anyway… VIVA ESPAINA

  27. Jacey says:

Oh Kickette, your mother hen clucking reached Texas because I made a fool of myself in front of my husband and son yelling for Iker in the shoot out and then again for Spain against Germany.
And I suppose this is all kinds of wrong, but I thought Ballack never looked hotter than with the puffed up bloody brow.

  28. . says:

What does the writing on Ramos’ shirt (under Puerta’s picture) mean?

  29. Dee13 (mrs m metze) says:

wow.. i guess i'm the only michael ballack fan in the world, i can feel nothing but the hate here.. ;) the better team won though, congrats spain… but i'm sad for my guy.. :(

  30. Callie says:

Damn champagne!!! Anyone got a clear screen cap of that?!

  31. The Fourth Official says:

Congrats and all, Spain. I admit I didn't watch the final. No one on either team interested me enough to interrupt my golf game. Though I'm delighted that Michael Ballack can add one more disappointment to his season of disappointments.

  32. MrsMichaelOwen says:

Mother hens with gorgeous lil sons? I thought you would aim higher kickette to be his (over joyed despite no idea of whats just happened)glamourous bird with the possibility to have his cute chicks. Not proud mother hen Pfft! I was going to down-grade you but then i remembered youve left that slot open for me! x

  33. Filthygorgeous says:

Thoroughly enjoyed the game…and enjoyed the spectacle, and by spectacle I mean eye candy! Lovely. I thought Sergio Ramos wearing that t-shirt in remembrance of Antonio Puerta was a very sweet gesture. Aww, thank the good lord for the gorgeous Spanish team… hot, and thoughtful! Bless :)

  34. Moongirl says:

Cici im guessing the goal celebration was for his new niece or nephew who i know was due in May And to . who posted at tha bottom the shirt says 'always with us'

  37. Laura Dagger says:

ooo i thought i had dreamt that vid last night!obv not :D FC43, the shirt was of Antonio Puerta the Sevilla player who collapsed on the pitch and died at the beginning of the season. Sergio was a good friend of his and they played together. He wore the shirt at the Real title celebrations too and during the season he showed it after he scored.

  38. Pavi (Mrs Metzelder) says:

I'm still so excited over the match yesterday! The Spanish team deserved to win because they put their heart and soul into every match and played together beautifully. They were so positive throughout the tournament and never let their egos get the better of them and I was so happy to see them win.

Great game!!Senor Ramos excelled himself in the scorchio stakes!! That said are we getting the threatened hair cut and did Nando get his Mrs preggy??

  45. chipped red nail polish says:

I’m so relieved that Spain finally won. I don’t think I could have taken another year of crushing defeat for these boys, though I do regret Raul wasn’t part of the side. It also allowed me to identify the Spanish contingent in my city, so bonus points.

VIVA ESPA?A!!!!…woohoo…and am so chuffed that it was Torres who scored that wondrous goal…love that man to bits…i hope he stays at Liverpool forever…anyway, thanks Laura for clearing up the celebration by Torres…was a bit worried that his girl could be preggers…sob, sob…btw, that video…OMFG!…think i ceased to function after that one…and where was Torres in all this?!…i demand another round of celebrations where everyone takes it off…

  56. FootballerChick43 - "Mrs.Ballack" says:

Congrats, Spain! Even if I am still a little down about the whole Michael-Ballack-Nearly-Losing-An-Eye thing. Who is on Ramos’s shirt? Just wondering, because I can actually translate it to meaning “Always With Us”. And the Iker video? The most disturbing part to me was that they were singing the instrumental part to Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. I don’t blame Iker for his celebration techniques – whatever floats his boat.
