Sports Illustrated: Footy WAGs in Body Paint

Men across the universe were up early today eagerly waiting for the postman to arrive with the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2010. Oh, who are we kidding: no one gets mail anymore, the testosterone-filled masses have probably been hitting refresh on SI.com since 23.59 last night.

Why is this news for us? As reported a little while ago, the magazine is featuring footy gals for the first time. They’ve done a body-painting special with England’s Abigail Clancy (Crouchie), Germany’s Sarah Brandner (Schweini), American Bethaney Dempsey (Clint Dempsey) and Italy’s Melissa Satta.

We’re not trying to take away from Melissa Satta’s moment here, and she does look smashing in the SI shoot, but just to comment on the obvious: this was the magazine’s choice for a bikini-ready Italian WAG? For a start, Christian Vieri doesn’t even play anymore, and there is a massive selection of sexy Italian WAGs ready, willing and able to pose in their skivvies. They’re practically doing so every week anyway.

Top marks to Sarah, Bethany and of course Abigail looks a stunner, but not as relaxed-sexy as we’ve seen her in other shoots.

Have a gander at the gallery and tell us which WAG you think looks the best. Our grumbling vote goes to Melissa; she stands out a mile in these shots.

   it’s cheap-looking, after all they are naked… but the italian gal’s the best and abigal isnt too beautiful in this one

   Of course the Italian looks the best haha but I have to give props to Mrs. Dempsy.

   LOL, airhead + sarah brandners look+ her german accented english= any mans fantasy.

   My Shallow Ranking:
   Italy- She looked confident in it, which I think made her look best. She has a glow and seemed comfortable.
   Germany- She didn’t look confortable, but she still looks great.
   England- wasn’t her best, she usually looks really hot in the other photos i’ve seen of her.
   USA- She looks like girl next door, she seems sweet, but shes not hot.

   If Andy Roddick was only a footballer, Brooklyn Decker might of owned all of them.

   Clint Dempsey’s wife doesn’t look 26 at all. She looks more like 36 to me. Matter of fact, they all look older than they are except maybe Melissa. And Sarah comes off as such an airhead in the video. She was irritating me. Kudos to all of them though. They look good.

   I liked Bethany the most. She has a really engaging smile. Melissa is gorgeous and I like her in the vid. However, she looks like a man-eater in the photos. I’m sure that works well for SI, though. Abby’s body paint was fantastic.

   I think they all look beautiful in body paint and whatnot, so there’s not a single lady I’m voting for here.

   (On a different note, I was quite surprised to notice that Clint Dempsey was: a) married and b) has a daughter. On top of that, his wife is an educational psychologist, which says much as most of the WAGs I’ve seen don’t seem to work normal 9-to-5 jobs. Good for her! )

   Sarah, she’s gorgeous She comes off as such an airhead in that video, though, which is a shame because in other clips I’ve seen she doesn’t come across like that at all. But I think that all the nervous laughing has to do with that fact that she had to speak English for the video :-\

    I think they all look amazing, for starters. However, I think that Melissa wins this one. She looks amazing. I like that she isn’t too skinny that you can see her ribs like some models. She’s beautiful and she went to university so the girls got brains. I was also impressed with USA because she isn’t a model and she looks gorgeous.

    I like Bethany the best… She is an educational psychologist and this was her first modeling gig. She totally held her own. Abby’s individual pics are not good becuase her face looks squidy.

      My vote definitely goes with Mrs. team USA, as she looks cute, fresh and natural. I have to say that they all look beautiful, with the exception of Abbey, who looks a bit harsh and stiff, but pretty none the less. Unless I am oblivious here, it also looks like they are all sporting their God given assets, except maybe Miss Italy, and I applaud SI for picking natural over big and fake.

    This is something page 3 would do….I thought SI was supposed to be classier than this?!?! That said I prefer Melissa Satta shots.

    Melissa does look stunning, great photos!
    Bethany seems really nice! XD she is the sweetest of all.
    Sarah looks nice! (she is sooo thin)
    And Abbey’s shots doesn’t look too great to me..

    I dunno. Sarah is too thin and Bethany has too normal a face. *shrug* I like Melissa’s shots – she’s a beautiful girl, and makes great contact with camera. Abigail’s face looks stiff and quite unattractive in those shots, though you can’t argue with the bod. The best body painting job has to go to Abigail’s artiste – that bikini top looks completely real. Of all of them, Melissa is probably the only one that can compare with some of the great SI swimsuit models like Rebecca Romijn or Kathy Ireland.
