Style Off: WAGs At The MOBO Awards

In a clash of fabrics rarely seen outside a Real Madrid team dinner, last night saw several of our favourite WAGs and players strolling the red carpet at the MOBO awards in Liverpool, rubbing shoulders with the great and the good of the UK music scene, as well as the inevitable range of Z-listers.

Leading from the front was Alex Gerrard, a woman who has never met a red carpet she didn’t like.

Wearing a leopard-print Lanvin mini dress with Christian Louboutin heels and an Alexander McQueen clutch, Alex looked er… nice, but we can’t help but think that the entire look is right down to the same shade of lipstick familiar, an offence for which she has a dubious record.

If she is to continue her vociferous pursuit of the ‘fashion icon’ label, it might be wise to remember that  true fashion icons are capable of styling themselves. Not copying what others do. Just sayin’.

Let’s see how the rest of the ladies and fellas (oh yes, the fellas were there!) measure up.

Sheree Murphy looked fantastic in her Lanvin jumpsuit, Christian Louboutin heels, and Alexander McQueen clutch. No word on whether or not she and Alex coordinated their outfit combos by text first.

Just as a short side note, we think it’s high time the ladies of Liverpool branched out from their local branch of Cricket. There’s a whole world of fashion out there that our inner bishes would welcome the exploration of.

Meanwhile, Chantelle Tagoe shook things up a little by wearing a metallic asymmetric dress with a pair of Camilla Skovgaard boots a black clutch and mega jewellery.

We are awarding this WAG style off to Chantelle for wearing something slightly out of the box. Just don’t look directly at her insane false eyelashes and you’ll be ok.

Some of the others in attendance included Everton’s Phil Jagielka and his wife Emily, Tim Cahill and wifey Rebekah, and a solo Tim Howard.

The Tims even took to the stage accompanied by big cheers from the pro-Everton crowd. We’re sad to report that their performance did not include any naked Jell-o wrestling but don’t panic. Our campaign to get a member of the Kickette Army involved in the planning for next year has begun in earnest.

alex always looks like her face is melting, this is no exception!
maybe if she didnt try so hard..
shes actually quite pretty generally, but the make up/ dress ruins it

  2. Zinny says:

Oh God, Alex. Your face is shinier than a newly minted penny. Not a compliement.
It looks like someone dipped her face in a tub of make up and left it to soak overnight.
On a better note, the shoes are to DIE for!

  3. EternalDreamer says:

    I didn't even recognize Alex. She looks…different.

  4. kaya says:

Alex's figure is still something I feel compelled to recognize her for finally getting in shape. Her sense of fashion, however, I still find frightening… at least she does own purses not sized for transporting midgets.
This "boot" heel fettish thing is still no less terrible to me than the day I first started seeing them. All of these ladies are wearing some version of them (except Sheree Murphy.) I don't get it, they look like hooker shoes and aren't even flattering. Their legs look like little sausages shoved into some S&M device.

  5. Lala says:

To the last comment – Alex does have a nanny, it was revealed when it went to court over the break in and the nanny was at home with Alex that night both in their bedrooms! Also Nobody said that she drinks champagne all day or shops all day or that she is a bad mother!

    • Georgina Sanders says:

Exactly Lala, we didn't imply that she drinks and shops all day nor she is a bad mother. Seems to me she is the one who thinks those things about Alex's lifestyle. We're just commenting on her fashion choice and her appearance because it's what it is. And on judging fashion, everyone is mean-spirited when they see something awful and gushing with pleasure if they see something fabulous. That's just how the fashion norm is.

If you can't stand the kitchen heat, please feel free to not stay because I don't remember ordering a platter of self-righteousness.

  6. C16 says:

I LOVE Alex's shoes!!! Too die for.
And I think she looks cute with the red lipstcik.
She didn't have to copy the whole look.

  7. Ash says:

I want the shoesees all of them!

  8. Pique_Xavi says:

I don't like the leopard print dress or the jumpsuit. I think jumpsuits are perhaps some of the hardest outfits to pull off. It look a little too loose from the stomach area. I think they all tried to put on too much or not enough. But it must be hard to stand apart or be creative when they've seen other WAGS already wearing the outfit they had planned on wearing. Maybe they should try classy looks for a change instead of sexy.

  9. Another bit from me says:

Wow, reading some of these comments, I'm really sad about the things being said about Alex Gerrard. I know homegirl hasn't had to work a day in her life to get what she has, but do you have to shred her to bits like this? I think it's because you're all jealous…that has to be it. I know I am, because I wish I could afford all the fluff and stuff, but I don't hate her for that. In case you didn't remember, she's a mother and no matter how stupid you think she is, that takes a lot of hard work and dedication. No, she doesn't have nannies doting on Lily-Ella and Lexie all day while she shops and drinks champagne like you all seem to mindlessly assume. That's stereotyping. It's clear she cares about her kids. Too bad you all can't see that and give her credit.

    • Again a bit from me says:

Also ladies, I'm not tooting my own horn here, but I look somewhat like Alex (someone I know confused a photo of her with a photo of me…and no, she wasn't wearing a micromini in it. She was wearing a full normal outfit of jeans and a jacket). I have similar blonde, straight hair and I'm tall, so when you guys say she looks like a cheap porn actress, how do you think that makes me feel? I'm not saying I'm a dopplegangler or anything, but we do have similar qualities, including a similar taste in fashion and makeup (true, my budget is very small and I don't wear minidresses that often, but you get the idea) so…thanks all. I guess you'll write me off as a Paris Hilton-looking pornstar too. That's just sad because I'm actually an intelligent and hard-working girl and some facts about me and my accomplishments would shock you, no doubt, if you got to talking to me and found out who I really am. But you just go ahead and keep on judging. It's what you do best.

      • LuvinBale says:

Um…ok? No one is judging you.
Like Kickette says”snark and get lively but always play nice”
No one is attacking you and everyone had a right to their opinions. Thats why all of us are on this site- because its fun and frivolous.

    • Kylie says:

None of the comments here (in my opinion) were mean spirited or meant to insult Alex personally. Most comments were related to her fashion choices. Sometimes bad style happens to good people.

And you shouldn't feel insulted if you look like Alex or dress like her. Everyone has their own style (unless you're a WAG :P ) Just because certain looks don't work for Alex doesn't mean that you can't rock them without looking like a "cheap pornstar".

      • jamtart heart says:

Whoops, really? Some of the comments about Alex and the other ladies certainly come across as mean spirited carping, flat out. I mean, people can make themselves feel better by saying the targets never read stuff like this anyway and besides they have their footballers and their money to console them, but there's no denying it's personal no matter how cavalierly it's delivered.

Flinging out insults from behind the safety of a computer screen without giving it another thought is chiefly why a lot of people love the internet (as evidenced not only by posts, but by thumbs up), so let's just call a spade a spade. :/

        • Scarlet says:

I'm not jealous or anything like that, as at the moment I'm having a fary tale life earned by myself. Every morning I get up at 5.30 to continue my studies and hardworking routine. So why should I be jealous?

By the way I think that intelligence makes a girl long lasting irresistible and sexy. If your looks are decent and intelligent nobody will mistaken you for a porn star (Alex may that's a field you can do some research to improve…)

As I'm selfconfident by knowing my strong and week parts of personality I couldn't handle depending on a husband… Looking for the kids day in day out (with or without nanny) would freak me out. So boring…. I'm glad to know that there is much more to explore in life than style, hair, clothes, parties, champagne, cocaine….

    • Sarah says:

She put hereself into spotlight with all these columns, selling wedding pics and her kids pics(even Rooneys don't push their children into press), proclaimed herself a fachion expert and did fashion line, etc – all without any talent, education or work – this is attention-whoring. She wanted attention, she got it. She must be ready for criticism now, and it's not our fault that people opinions about her mostly negative

      • jamtart heart says:

If it makes people feel better to tell themselves 'she's asking for it', that's absolutely their prerogative. It really doesn't make the 'mean-spirited carping' bit magically disappear, though, that's all I'm trying to say. Like, it doesn't make it any less petty. It's a short step from calling someone 'who deserves it' a cheap whore to then feeling like it's okay to judge the appearance of Tim Cahill's wife (someone who never asks to be in the public eye) is 'old looking' (just one example) and on and on. It's easy to go down that slope of 'mean' and 'petty', and before you know it you're insulting the person and not whatever it is about their outfit that bothers you.

I guess I just think if a dress is too short, or the print is awful, than the comments should be made about the garments, and not about the people?

I realize in retrospect this is probably not a popular viewpoint in these parts, so that's the last I'll say on it; apologies for interfering.

  10. MissEstonia says:

I love Alex, she looks great! It's too bad she copied the outfit from Chloe, but it still looks good and girl's got some amazing hair, whether it's fake or not. I always like what she wears and I'm a fan.

Sheree looks a little bit boring unfortunately, too mucb black, her hair's so dark, her eyes are dark. Maybe something to brighten it up a bit? At least more interesting footwear?

Chantelle looks gorgeous, I love the dress, and she has such great hair.

I think Phil Jagielka's wife looks a bit like Cheryl Cole, just a wee bit. They're such a cute couple! And Tim Howard's scarf…why?

  11. LuvinBale says:

Chantelle looks like a cheap version of Kim Kardashian and that isn’t saying much.
I like when you see them dressed down- like Alex in her workout gear and next to no makeup. Then you can actually see how pretty she is.

Less is more ladies- less is more.

  12. Carvivlie says:

How old is Rebekah Cahill? She looks old enough to be my mum.

  13. Anon says:

Let's give credit where credit is due; Alex wore LIPSTICK! And it wasn't her usual shade of -my-whole-face-is-one-color beige. Of course the fact that she looks like a cheap hooker overshadows her big accomplishment, but at least it's something.

  14. Miamisoccerbarbie says:

Oh God! what happened to O-RI-Gi-NAL!!! Shes such a copy cat! i cant people who cant think for themselves but just copy everything & call it their own… :/

Of course there will be things you like from peoples styles & outfits but how about something slightly similar withyour own twist & personality! ewwwww…. she shouldve just called up Chloe & borrowed the outfit along with the lipsstick!!!! totally gross :(

  15. Steph says:

Oh, Alex. Copying Chloe Sevigny's look from an event from almost two months ago? :/ OMG, NO. You don't do that! Besides, Chloe totally pulled it off the right way, IMO. That dress looks better with her hair up like that and the jewelry, too. Love. Alex just doesn't pull it off the way she does. I don't really like jumpsuits, but Sheree looks really cute in that. And Chantelle? That dress would've looked better with pumps instead of booties, IMO. :/ Just saying.

  16. mena says:

What is with the WAG fascination with booties? It seems like every WAG who rocks a super short skirt always pairs it with stiletto booties that cut them off at the ankles and makes their legs look stumpy. I don't get it.

    • Kylie says:

I don't get it either. But all it takes is one WAG to wear a trend and in no time every WAG will follow. I guess since they have access to tons of money, it's easy for them to purchase without thinking (or looking in the mirror)?

  17. Kylie says:

Tim Howard in an McQueen skull scarf? I like!

  18. oh my God Alex looks like a tramp I´m sorry but the woman lacks of class

  19. SoccerDuckie says:

Lordy, I'm baffled by the amount of makeup on Alex's face… Wonder how long it would take to wipe it all off afterwards? It's just…..a lot…. *baffled face*

    • wow says:

Yes, She's a pretty women, but she always wear a mask thinking its makeup. A little makeup here & there goes a long way!

  20. jellenp says:

I just wish Tim Howard had shown up in the outfit he work for the ESPN Body Issue.

  21. BarceLisa says:

oooh Chantelle you were so close to looking perfect! next time try not using the whole mascara bottle, maybe just… i dunno… half? That photo of the two Timmys is not the best one I've seen for two clearly very attractive men.

  22. missbubbles says:

has Alex ever wore anything that didnt make her look cheap? i really dont get how a woman who does nothing all day but thinking what to wear and has money to wear the most expensive brands, always ends looking like an actress in cheap porns??? have you reconsidered getting a stylist Alex? You need one, woman

    • Alessandra says:

girl, preach it! i've always been baffled over the second point you brought up too, geez.

    • linda says:

      i hate her.she is fake

    • Scarlet says:

The cheap looking porn award 2010 goes to….. ALEX GERRARD! She manages to look in every dress (bought with his husbands money) incredibly trashy and slutty. If I remember right, Wayne R. isn't a spokesman for COKE anymore, because hmm let's say he just doesn't fit with the brand anymore. As a designer I would ban Alex of my shops, she just doesn't fit with designer clothes.
To Steven: You can save money, just let her shop in Primark. I guarantee you she will look the same and you can spend your money let's say on other terms….

      • almica says:

The red lipstick doesn't go with anything at all!!! She looks cheap and that is just not good !!

    • RedAne says:

Have you ever heard the famous line "there are things money can't buy"? I bet Alex hasn't.
I love her only for the fact she is Steven's missus and I think they look adorable together!! Plus they have two of the cutest 'baller bubbas in the world!!! But her dress sense is just NIL. Amen to the second point you made.

  23. The only thing in those pictures that I'd want on my body is Tim Cahill.

  24. Georgina Sanders says:

Alex Gerrard's face = Paris Hilton look-alike much? LOL!
Seriously, they look like they're separated at birth.

Well, I will just agree with Kickette in giving the style-off win to Chantelle for not doing the Lanvin-McQueen-Louboutin combo. But only for that reason.

    • jellenp says:

But I think those Skovgaard boots are fierce, even if I don't know how a person could actually walk in them. Luckily, not my job!!

      • Georgina Sanders says:

Yes, the boots are fierce but I think that the mini-dress-heeled-boots combo is just sooooooo overdone by the WAGs already.

I agree with mena's comment, it really does make their legs look stumpy. And also, with Kylie's comment. All the WAGs are just copying one another. Someone thinks of wearing this and then it suddenly gets good feedback, then all of a sudden the rest are doing the same style, to the point that it's just so exasperating to look at.

  25. Missy Manchester says:

    1. Alex has morphed into a chunkier Cameron Diaz. It's probably the lipstick and pose.
    2. Although Sheree's pose is a tad awkward, she looks good.
    3. Is Chantelle cross-eyed …or is it just the Tammy-Faye-Bakker lashes creating that effect?
    4. Looks like Rebekah Cahill has a furry jacket in every colour. (Wasn't the last one black?)

  26. Sarah says:

I have never seen Lanvin looking so tacky and cheap in me life (Alex). And Gemma Arterton wore Sheree's jumpsuit much-much better.
Everton boys and their WAGs look cute, through

  27. Thea says:

Lot of Louboutin heels! Alex looks good – although it's a bit too much of the Lepoard skin and the red lipstick. She should wear stuff from her Forever Unique range.
