Style Files: Getting Cozy
Can anyone shed some light on the appeal of the tea cozy hat?

Please understand, we would never hate on an actual tea cozy – they are integral to our daily survival. Plus we love the idea of keeping a tea pot warm and cozy – it’s cute and twee. We may be sentimental tea-geeks when it comes to the original use of this item, but we are not remotely sympathetic to its rebirth as a popular head adornment.
Ever since Freddie Ljungberg debuted the look – and Becks made it a staple in his wardrobe, we’ve never quite understood the appeal. Even our half-love Gigsy was recently spotted in a cable-knit mocha flavoured one. Britain is cold, damp and full of weather misery, sure, but are these necessary?
We acquiesce on one thing: Ryan Giggs does redeem his hat choices somewhat with the snuggly bubba.

why does giggy's kid look like Vida? hhhmmmm interesting.
its nice to inherit somethink from your grand parents.
why isn’t there an edit button to get rid of that apostrophe? oh the shame….
cute baby – terrible hat. beck’s hat is just horrible, colours, style, everything. Freddie win’s but it is a little silly. Torres has one similar that isn’t so supersized and he looks splendid. and cosy.
(speaking of torres, have you seen that the pictures from LFC’s annual fancy dress bash are out?)
hello. My first post…yet i’ve been a fan for ages.
We all know footballers/WAGS never wear anything for actual utility, so we can deduce that these over-sized beanies are being worn as some kind of decoration rather than for warmth. And therefore, I’m not digging it.
Although I do agree with Paula.
Freddie could be wearing a rubbish sack and he would still look gorgeous. His face is so damn beautiful, he can get away with anything.
I dont like Them. Its Not That Cold And they Look Like Idiots!
Point Made
I don’t mind the tea-cozy hats. Actually, Freddie could wear a burlap sack and I’d be ok with it. And no, I couldn’t care less that he’s balding. With a face like that he makes hair seem overrated.
In chilly climes, they make total sense. Toques (cheers, fellow Canuck TFO) are all toasty and warm. I quite like it but then maybe I’m just really used to that look. A hot guy in a fuzzy toque—is just asking for a cuddle.
Wearing such toppers in warm weather though is just sad.
LOVE the photo of Giggsy with the little ‘un. But Ryan surely should have made sure his sprog was properly adorned with headware *before* bearing the frosty Manchester air. No mitts, or hat. He looks cold, poor kiddie!
I actually find them appealing as well. People all over San Fran wear them. I like them especially when worn with a wool pea coat and a thick scarf. And jeans. The only thing that would have made Giggs look even cuter in that photo was if his wee one was wearing a little toque too.
Aww. Freddie’s so cute; he looks like one of Santa’s elves.
That’s not a tea cosy. That’s a toque. Pronounced tewk. A Canadian thing. Well, maybe they are toques on steroids. But in fact, on all these guys, they look appealing. Fuzzy and cuddly and warm and such. I like. And Ryan, with babe in arms, looks hot damn. What is it about fertile men? I feel my right ovary quivering.
What do all these men have in common??? They have all hit 30 and are slightly balding, therefore are reduced to having mags point out their baldyness or buy a tea cosy.
Me thinks Freddie looks cute in his
I am going to give this a big hellz no…they look silly and each of them look a little bitter about it. Thank God I live in So Cal, none of this sillyness
I love head gear on men, but these… unless they are on the head of someone with loads of dreadlocks, they just don’t look right to me. Of the pics here, though, I think Giggs wears it best (nod to Fourth).
Oh, and Kickette- ‘sentimental tea-geek’- LOL. That’s me all over!
i like those hats. i have one. i wore it today as it is cold here in new york. i also have no problem with them beind rasta-ish – perhaps because i’m jamaican, and find nothing wrong with rastas in life. but i can’t say i understand the tea cozy thing – i love tea, and, therefore, tea pots, but i don’t know why i ought to dress them.
They all look utterly ridiculous!
It’s not their style at all.
Whaoh. Becks is looking a bit haggard in that shot. That’s a first.
Freddie wins the tea-off hands down.
I don’t mind the cozies/hats/toques, tbh… they’re kinda cute for cold weather. Ugh boots on the other hand are inexcusable regardless of temperature.
As usual I have to agree with TFO on this one. They all looke quite appealing, though, Becks does look a little rastaish. But I love to see all these ballers in there comfy, normal human being days. It must bring some type of normalcy to their not so normal lives <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/smile.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="smile" style="border:0;" />
gigsy and becks totally look alike, lol.
but the hat is a big no no.
little zach is the best looking here.
Freddie *does* have great lips and a great jawline.
Ahhhh yes, the bubba makes most of the tea-cozy pain disipate just a wee bit…
But don’t fashion icons understand that they can’t just recklessly put something on, knowing it is wrong?! People WILL copy you! Accountability people! Come on!
Although, Freddie does seem to make that knit mess all work out just nicely
HOT!
Freddie’s hat does look to be on steroids, truth be told.
I hate to say it but when I first opened the page, I thought it was Rooney in that pic.
Whoops!
No, no, no. The Rasta look does not belong on any of these men. Ever.
You Canadian ladies are obviously more tolerant of strange knitwear as it’s probably a necessity in your harsh winters. Myself, being in England (more rainy at the moment than freezing) feel that no-one under 6 should be seen in public looking like one of Snow White’s dwarves. Sweet little mini Ryan would look adorable in a toque and hasn’t got one !
