Style Files: London Boys, Skinny Jeans
Those of you living in town know what we’re talking about: the increasing number of male Londoners wearing tapered jeans.
It’s infiltrated the ranks of the footie world too – last month we clocked John Terry working a pair of rather slim-line jeans, and now Tottenham’s Jonathan Woodgate has been seen out at Nobu in a seriously fitted denim situation.
What’s your take on skinny jeans for men, Kickettes? Rock ‘n Roll? Or get the hell away from me you big girl?
Side note: also at Nobu but with a looser cut to their denim were Freddie “I just had a chemical peel” Ljungberg and Didier “the hair remains” Drogba.
Ok, my friends and I think Skinny jeans on guys are HOT! Like, dayum. As long as they arn’t fat or anything, i love it.
Skinny jeans are for boys who are emo or punk or rock or whatever. I don’t feel comfortable seeing them on men…

Back to the main pix…yes, it would be better if the bigger built players lay off the skinny jeans…can’t imagine my Stevie in them…but it somehow works on Woodgate…must be the hair and the pasty face…
I’m going to have to say a big “HELL NO” to skinny jeans on men. I’m surprised ballers can even wear skinny jeans with the size of their thighs. I would probably like the rest of Woodgate’s outfit if it weren’t for the jeans.
Skinny jeans on women? Nope. Skinny jeans on men? Even bigger nope! Yuck…
Freddie still looks pretty hot, but in a “You used to be smokin’ hot, but something happened and I don’t know what” kind of way.
Drogba could never be attractive. Sorry, but no. It’s the hair, I tell ya. I will have to see him with a shaved head in order to re-consider my opinion.
I hate skinny jeans full-stop. They’re unflattering on most women ‘cause they give us the light bulb effect: round and bulbous on the top, and super slim on the stem. On men who are as muscular in the thigh and glute area as footballers are, skinny jeans would have a similar effect on them. As long as footballers don’t adopt the style of the little emo kids over here in Canada (wearing the skinnys low on the hips and thereby giving themselves the look of having a full load in the butt of their jeans), I will not vomit.
P.S. Perhaps these “fashion-conscious” ballers should think about a large percentage of the male population who are firing blanks and having problems conceiving children: men who were young in the ‘70s and ‘80s when tight trousers were all the rage. Coincidence? You decide… Most men I know would not want to take chances when dealing with anything to do with their “jewels”.

I think Woody works them well, because as mentioned before, his physique isn’t that of a stereotypical baller.

I’ve found that skinny jeans only look good when they’re black skinny jeans. I’m not entirely sure why.
I’m willing to forgive Jonathan Woodgate for overlooking this fact as I may have a tiny bit of a crush on him, to my ever lasting shame. I think it’s the fact he’s fluent in Spanish.
All I have to say is (and I realize I may be all alone in this), Woody looks mighty fine in those jeans! Love that man!

A good portion of the guys around here wear skinny jeans, and I have to admit, with the right outfit and person they look great. Sigh. The love of hipster guys is a very guilty pleasure I just can’t shake…
Also, chemical peel or not, Freddie still looks lovely.
The only thing that I noticed here was that the zipper pull on Mr. Woodgate’s jeans was sticking out, and in the unzipped position. Wonder if he wears underwear, and if anyone got a glimpse, not that that interests me when it comes to him.
That’s a firm NO on skinny jeans for guys (and girls). I saw a scene kid the other day and his jeans were so tight I was surprised he wasn’t singing soprano.
Aoife – totally agree on Woodgate as they work for him. For men with real thighs, i.e., MY FRANK, this is a BAD idea. Please don’t dress him up in these Elen. Stay away from him while he is dressing. PLEASE!!!

I would like skinny jeans just a little better if they had a bit of a flare. I know thats the whole point of skinny jeans but I prefer a little mystery to my footballer and what lies undernearth.
See, I don’t mind the skinny jeans Joanthon’s wearing because they’re not TOO skinny. I don’t mind those kind of jeans on men but when they’re REALLYREALLY skinny, like girl jeans skinny, then that’s just absolutely horrid.

Let’s be realistic here. We all know that if anyone can pull off skinny jeans, footballers are the ones to do it. They have the tighs, and in more cases than not, they have the junk to fill them out. It’s like getting a preview before actually viewing the goods. Why not, is my opinion.

In my opinion, skinny jeans should not be worn by anyone ever. They don’t do girls any favours – there are some people who don’t look as repulsive in them as others but still they don’t flatter anyone – but never ever ever should they be seen on a man.

I’m not a big fan of skinny jeans on boys. Which is sort of odd, because I’m very into the “indie” music scene that spawned the slightly disturbing trend.
On the other hand, I don’t like the massively baggy jeans that a vast majority of my generation wears either.
Can’t guys just find pants that fit normally?
No on the skinny jeans. I don’t even like them on alot of girls, why on earth would I want guys to be wearing them.

Super skinny for guys….not too keen. You don’t want the goods squeezed within an inch of their life. It’s just not good physically. Somewhere in the middle is just right. Not too tight, but not bum skimmy-loose either. I hate the saggy bum jeans look that is deemed ‘hip’ by many.

I love indie blokes in skinny jeans but they usually have the bony little bodies to carry them off – ballers dont (although Woody could be the exception that proves the rule!)
Your average footballers taut muscular thighs shouldnt be crammed into jeans that make them look like an overstuffed sausage they should be clad in dark denim which hints at whats undeneath but leaves a little to the imagination!
