Style Files: Who’s the Best Dressed Baller?

Aside from having trouble finding trousers to fit over their thighs of thunder, most football players should have no excuse for bad fashion. They’re rich enough to hire someone to think and shop for them (ie, their wives and girlfriends) and they’re supposed to be hip and full of the cool factor. Yet, so many of them get it so very wrong.

image

Let us be more specific with what constitutes wrong: a suit that is the colour of a tropical fruit, dirty-on-purpose jeans and /or glitter on anything.

But enough about the bad, let’s focus on the good. Our homies over at Machochip recently named their Most Fashionable Sports Stars of the year, with Cristiano Ronaldo coming in third and David Beckham hitting the number 1 spot.

C-Ron haters, there is no need to bring up the man bags, tight jeans and other such issues. We are all aware. Again, let’s focus on the good.

We’re sure our regular readers can predict who we think the best dressed (and undressed) baller is out there, but who gets your vote? Do you like the flash of Didier Drogba’s black paisley suits? Thierry Henry’s cool sophisto style? Or do you just admire Crouchie’s ability to find jeans that fit?

We give it to Becks, but we also think Rio Ferdinand, Luis Figo, Kaka and Thierry Henry deserve some style snaps.

AusGamers has posted up a feature regarding the most important well-known games of 2014, solely they've centered on what can be every game's biggest hurdles or downfall. so we wanted to try to to things alittle otherwise. we've got a list. We've checked it double, and whereas we tend to hope everything here goes to be nice, there's a lot of potential for naughty (read: problems) too. Below you'll realize our list of games on the horizon for 2014 from the large Triple-A camp all the way through to Indies and everything in between. If the game is listed here, it's safe to assume we're really pretty excited about its unleash, however rather than glowingly blanket the year's manifest with optimistic enthusiasm, we're presenting these games to you in an exceedingly essential light-weight of concern and, in some cases, even trepidation.

  6. michelle TN says:

    He is Paris Hilton’s soulmate.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! Kaya, how could you?!? You almost just ruin Cristiano for me . . . ALMOST. At least he has talent . . . for soccer but I still wonder how he can move in his jeans.

carly, I agree, Figo is so refined but #1 goes to Thierry for sure.

  7. Merv says:

That is one of the reasons I hesitate to believe the whole “Tony Parker Cheated” story.

    1) The model is somewhat notorious for wanting to be involved in celebrity scandals. See past Ronaldinho stories involving her and her comments.

    2) Some online sites are stating that she was Thierry’s date for the wedding and others are saying he was just a mutual friend.

3)If she really wanted to make the news she should have just revealed she was Thierry’s date because at that time it wasn’t “official” that he and his wife were divorcing. I believe it was later brought up that he didn’t have his wedding ring on at the Parker ceremony. Seems that she could have grabbed more headlines by saying she was with Thierry.

    4) Lastly, if I was with Thierry Henry, I doubt much that I would even give a second glance to Tony Parker. lol The whole thing seems a bit far fetched

Then again, I must have too much time on my hands to sit here speculating about it at all. lol

    Just my two cents.

  8. brandy says:

One other tidbit that makes Thierry less attractive: apparently he introduced friend Tony Parker to a French model who wanted to hit that – AT TONY’S WEDDING! To Eva Longoria. At their wedding. Sleeze factor of 19 (out of 10 y’all)!

    http://entretenimiento.aol.com/celebrities/articl…

It’s one thing to cheat on and abandon your wife/mother of your child, but to encourage and facilitate other’s doing so – so slimy and unattractive! I think he likes like a weasel or some other member of the rodent family. Ewww

  9. LoveLamps says:

Becks. As if the post from earlier this week was not enough, he looks great in everything, nothing and everything in between. And he gets better with age. The man is priceless.

  10. cheryl bites says:

I fully support the Jo and Drog love. Oh, and Kaya –

C Ron spent his last 15 lives as a peacock and isn't over demotion to human status. He is Paris Hilton's soulmate.

You get today’s Blistering Eloquence Award.

  11. Merv says:

I will have to go with Thierry. Whatever he wears seems to suit him. I’ve never see him have a bad fashion day. No matter what he has on he always looks relaxed and comfortable. I envy that!

  12. anna says:

    absolutely Beckham…

  13. DizzeeBrunette says:

Rio Ferdinand – all day long. See him regularly thru work and his threads are the best. Forget the pinch-faced Ms Moss – he’s got the London look!

  14. Emma says:

Well it certainly ain’t Cristiano. Handbags Tight tops? Is he a man or a 10-year-old girl?

Jose Mourinho’s the best dressed man in football, never before has the simple tie-and-suit attire looked so good.

The best dressed footballer’s probably Thierry Henry or Didier Drogba. Classy and understated. OK, not Drogs, but still.

  15. The Fourth Official says:

Oh Elise! I just got a shiver down my spine – all my boys in their lovely suits and ties – I can just imagine how fab they looked < sigh . . . . >. I hope nobody gets hurt in Rome today (fans, I mean, though players too).

  16. The Fourth Official says:

Okay, if this is supposed to be an opinion on fashion sense only – not slagging particular football clubs and/or bringing up raunchy call girl incidents – then I’m going to stick up for Cristiano. I don’t mind the man bag and I appreciate the tight jeans. In fact I like everything he wears. I have not seen him hit a bad fashion note; he would not be caught dead in Becks’ plaid shirt and trucker’s cap. He has a European fashion sensibility, and it’s all good to me. Plus, he’s going to kick Liverpool’s sorry ass all over the pitch at Anfield on Sunday . . . whoops, sorry, I promised no slagging, but I just couldn’t help myself.

  17. Sarah x says:

Why the hell do Machochip have Hulk Hogan as one of there best dressed :S
So confused.. Could be someone alot better

  18. Sarah x says:

I Think Stevie G Dresses Nice Too
    Hes My Winner :D

  19. paris says:

I’am definatley a C-Ron hater but I pretty much think the man bag is self expanitory. For me I would have to say the best dressed is David Beckham, I think Stevie G has a great casual dress sense and he never has any fashion faux pas like certain someone who will remain nameless (hint hint frank Lampard)!!

  20. Allana says:

    Becks. Full stop.

  21. tammyv says:

1.) Michael Owen – perfectly pretty and preppy in every situation

2.) TH14 – Henry always gets it down and looks so pretty doing it

3.) Drogs – he can pull off the insane looks and make you think, “Hell yeah”

  22. Cate says:

    Paolo Maldini

  23. Thierry Henry is ridiculously stylish. Surprisingly enough, Jens Lehmann always looks good, too. I’m not sure how he does it, or why him of all players, but I’ve never seen a picture of him out of uniform where he looks ridiculous- it’s always well-fitting jeans and sharp sweaters.

  24. izel says:

who ever did the votes got it right, but ronaldo that jacket look like a bananna i would like to bite into. ha ha

  25. Elise says:

Fourth, I am dragging myself up out of my deep, deep, deep well of depression about Mourinho to agree with you about Lawrie’s glasses. I think I am quite obsessed with them really. Every time I see him on Sky Sports, I am mesmerized. And when he appears without the glasses, I am bereft! I mean, what is the man thinking? Put those glasses back on! His attractiveness level just zooms skywards with those things on! I am terrified that he’s going to get sacked soon, and then how will I see the glasses? eeek!

By the way, I saw your boys at the airport in Manchester and I must say they were looking sharp in those suits. Of all the teams I’m supposed to hate as a Chelsea fan, I hate yours the least! lol Mostly because of Fergie. I love that geezer and gave up pretending I don’t a long time ago.

  26. robin says:

Fourth I much as it pains me to agree with a manure fan (teehee) I agree about lawrie. Some men can’t pull off the funky look and some just can.

  27. The Fourth Official says:

Okay, girls, I admit the Reds played well today, but Sunday is another day. And Manchester United ain’t no Marseille.

Back to the stylin’ discussion, who thinks Lawrie Sanchez sports the coolest glasses around? Or am I hallucinating?

  28. carly says:

    None of those four…

Or maybe Rio…I think the less flashy they look the better, so the least I notice what they wear the better they’re dressed.

  29. carly says:

No, I correct myself – Figo. Figo is absolute class.

  30. Johnna says:

    Cristiano, hands down.

  31. robin says:

Jamie redknapp. Steven gerrard. Jose mourinho (no one said I couldn’t pick a manager).
I prefer a very classic ralph lauren/armani style on a guy and these epitomize that look. The women should be the peacocks and the men should just be classy, elegant background.
    Oh and fourthofficial? YNWA!!

  32. RedGirl says:

The Fourth Official, how can C-Ron kick if he’s always laying on the pitch? There, I said it tongue wink

Going back to the subject, I like Michael Owen’s style…

  33. c9 says:

Cristiano can be my shopping partner anyday. Any man who’s confident enough to sport a man bag and wear pink is not concerned or worried about too much Becks and Kaka also gets my vote

  34. kaya says:

I’m really annoyed that TH turned out to be such a prick btw. Nonetheless, I have to admit the man is blessed with such a fine physique and style that I have to vote for him in this forum…
Btw, speaking of ballers’ fashion sense, I found the Juve players’ profile pages strikingly funny in their oh-so-italianess. Each player’s description includes his favorite italian food and his taste in fashion.
My personal Juve fav is Trezeguet who apparently cares a lot about sunglasses and color coordination. Tee hee.

  35. kaya says:

No no no. NO on Crissy Ronaldo. I dislike his style for the same reason I used to really be annoyed by Becks’. DB has started dressing like a man the past several years, so I don’t get annoyed at his metrosexuality like I used to, but C-Ron has picked up the mantle. Look at that Elen Rives-style jacket he’s wearing in this posting’s pic for god’s sake! The man is so femme-vain that he wore a special 3/4 sleeve princess jersey against Angola in the World Cup. Am I the only one who noticed everyone else was wearing a standard jersey but him? He’d probably try to do the same at Man Yoo but Fergie won’t let him. C Ron spent his last 15 lives as a peacock and isn’t over demotion to human status. He is Paris Hilton’s soulmate. Actually, she’s gotten less annoying, we’re still waiting on C-Ron to mature.
Oh yeah, and Thierry is the best dressed I’ve seen. I like men simple and classy looking. The one pic I saw here of Michael Owen (and WAG) was def the style I like, but TH just pulls it off better I think because of his stature.

  36. brandy says:

Sorry, but I just can’t see past the bad persona. He disgusts me.

  37. aja says:

thierry has a lot of style. very well-dressed. cristiano dresses like having a ton of money is new to him, so he spends it all on flashy, expensive, trendy stuff. i prefer understated style.

  38. tammyv says:

Brandy, Thierry did all of that while looking damn fine though (sad but true)

  39. brandy says:

Big YES to Becks. That man can wear the hell out of anything he wears. Even that damn tea cozy on his head. And that reindeer sweater/jacket. Still HOT.

Cristiano is way up there for me too. So EuroTrash Fabu! I just think that anyone other than continentals “get” that style.

As for Thierry Henry. I don’t think he should be up for “Best” anything after all his appalling behaviour these last few years. The England-slamming, the cheating, the abandonning, the stingy-ness with his abandonned family…. make it stop!

  40. jessica says:

thierry. always classy (at least clothes-wise, anyway).
