The Dress-Down: A Boho Too Far

So much for boho chic. Some of our most beloved boys have taken the dress-down to its extreme: they are now solely existing within the realm of what is being commonly (and offensively?) referred to in fashion circles as Hobo-Chic.

Case in point: the lovely Owen Hargreaves looks like he’s going through some kind of major life crisis with a side of empty shaving can-itis; The always gorgeous Niko Kranjcar is one whisker away from us speed-dialing a team of stylists armed with tuxedos and hair gel.

Too far, Davey. Too far.We blame Becks and his beard and grandfather sweaters for this new trend of unruly hair and general unkemptness. Since he recently had a shave, we’re hoping these boys will soon follow suit.

Your thoughts on this look? Are we being too hard on the dress-down?

    I LOVE this look, my house mate has actually told me that i should maybe start looking in doorways for homeless men, as this seems to be the best place to find my ideal man!!! I am a little obsessed with Gael Givet who plays for Blackburn, i think he is all Hobo and very little chic but i love him!!!

    I like a man with some bed head, a day old beard and jeans.
    These three just need a little fixing. I take Beckham without the hat and LV bag and Niko without the beanie. Owen looks like he just needs his curls fluffed and a lollipop.

    Yeah I don’t know what’s up with that. Just men being lazy I suppose.
    But some guys make it acceptable.

    I loved Niko’s lush long hair and was sad when he cut it off, but it needs a trim now, and a shave would be welcome. I think he was more influenced by Charlie, he’s notoriously lazy when it comes to that yet he’s one of those fellas who’d probably need to shave twice a day.

    As for clothes, I don’t know, it’s OK I guess. He insists on ‘artsy’ scarves and jeans look normal-ish; I’ve no complaints actually. I just love him any way he comes :-)

    I admit, I like it. There’s something manly about a moderate amount of unkeptness, as long as they know where the line is. And there’s a touch of lumberjack-hot in some scruff and flannel on a man.

      I definitely agree with you, Laura. The guys look comfortable, and seem more “approachable” than if they were in an Armani suit. But they all look good dressed “up” or “down” – I think it’s the person and how they carry themselves. Hot is hot, no matter what they’ve got on! ;)
