The Midweek Mmm: D.C. United Have A Boys’ Night Out

Photo copyright: Jane Chun

This right here is why D.C. United is our go-to Hot Boy football club. Goodness, do they put something in the post-game vitamins or something over there? We should go find out.

If you wish to update your sports-stalker dial, here’s who we’re dealing with above: Barry Rice, Andrew Quinn, (DCU staffer) Steve Olivarez, Devon McTavish, Chris Pontius, Clyde Simms, Rodney Wallace, and Ivan Carter (Comcast SportsNet).

The lads were out for a drink at one of their locals, BlackFinn. Next time, drinks on us, boys! Literally. Ahem.

Blackfinn? I know that place! It's got dark-colored carpeting that I get the impression is soaked in beer and Italian salad dressing. Needless to say, it smells gross in there, but the sliders are spot on!

    Dear Kickette staff,

Thanks for showing our MLS boys some love. I don't know about other leagues, but most MLS players (per the players Union, google it) make salaries similar to their working-class fans. Supplemental endorsement deals are rare. They need Kickette-level love & support for all their hard work in a league that is just ignored in the press.

    Thanks again Kickettes :)

Wow Mona, I had no idea. So it is really for the love of the game, huh?

I just did a bit of research, and here in Australia, there's a system where each club is allowed a marquee player, whose salary isn't included in the salary cap for that club. It can be up to AU$800000/year, like Dwight Yorke. The average is between US$65000-75000. (Love currency converters!) Additionally, there are usually 3 under-20 players, and they're def. paid at the lower end, smth. like $30000-40000. There are always bonuses, but like in the States endorsement deals aren't raining down on them. Well, unless you're Tim Cahill, Lucas Neill or Harry Kewell!

The glory of being an LA Galaxy season ticket holder… it is a bonus game and normally they have a private team training session for the fans as well. Last year with Barca was fantastic…

here is hoping this year continues and all the boys are back from their post-WC vacations

They are the most winning team in MLS… they are having a up-and-down (a rare seriously down) season but they are fighting back.

"And though Iker Casillas has yet to branch out into the world of style to the same extent as other big-name athletes (cough, cough, David Beckham), we predict only good things to come in the footballer's fashion future, so watch this space." Zeus help us all…
