The Sizzle Query: David Luiz, Chelsea FC

Chelsea’s hot new signing? (Image: Getty Images/Zimbio)

Bearing in mind that he’s currently the most expensive player  in the history of English football, it’s not really surprising that Fernando Torres’ signing for Chelsea on transfer deadline day was big news. So big, in fact, that Chelsea’s other last minute signing, Benfica defender David Luiz, went largely unnoticed.

Not any more. While Torres has struggled to make an impact for his new club, Luiz has caught the eye, his robust technique and attacking prowess culminating in a superb goal for his side against Manchester United on Tuesday. The important question at this point though, is not whether Luiz will eclipse Torres’ signing in the long term, but whether he and his faux Fellaini ’do’ are hot or not. (Image: AP Photo/Daylife)

Honestly. All of the media are wondering. They’re just afraid to ask out loud.

It’s your job to tell them. Are you jonesing for the boy and his bouffant? Or does the whole hair issue leave you reaching for the clippers a la Marouane Chamakh?  Let us know.

The thing about David Luiz is not really his looks, but his charm! If he you watch his interview and videos you'll end up loving him because he's so sweet, funny, adorable and he has such a lovely and bright personality.

  2. Meeka says:

He's great player who is really aggressive when he needs to be. Chelsea has definitely benefited from him being on the team. And yes, I'd do him. The hair is a bonus. Ladies need something the hold on to.

  3. Zahara says:

aww hes so cute!i love the hair!
but still, it cannot match the undying sexiness of puyi's amazing hair.

ps, i see the sideshow bob in him

  4. someone who likes films and books says:

    What a cutie!

  5. @mezz98 says:

The hair. The HAIR! I am in love with THE HAIR!

  6. HolidayGirl says:

He's been on my radar for a while. And yes, I would. Most definately.

  7. jessie says:

Forget the hair, the boy is STRONG no pushover ummmmmmmmm

  8. aninjasdream says:

I want to spend my summer combing his hair, among other things.

  9. aninjasdream says:

I want to spend summer brushing his hair, among other things. Sigh!

  10. LikeWhoah says:

SIDESHOW BOB! Lmao. He seriously looks like him. I do not find him attractive at all :/

  11. Bluesblood says:

David Luiz is pretty cute (and such fun to watch on the pitch). Though I'm in awe of his hair (I've never seen curls move like that), I think a shorter 'do may up the hot factor. On the subject of hair … can we please discuss the recent happenings on the heads of both Florent Malouda and Glen Johnson, both of whom have received recent trims?

  12. @Lyandra says:

I never thought I'd go for the Sideshow Bob type, but Luiz does have something about him. Of course, as a Liverpool supporter I have to say, I think he'd look much better in Red.

  13. Raincitygirl says:

The hair is awesome. Nobody can deny its awesomeness.

  14. annie says:

    His hair is awesome!!!
    haha i love it.

  15. jen says:

i never thought of sideshow bob until everyone started saying it.. homeboy is def younger than me but every time i see him, he just does something to me.. and i love the hair and hope he keeps it.

  16. xoWinnie says:

    sexy as sin.
gotta rep Benfica aaaaallllllll theeeeeeee way.

  17. torontonian.madrista says:

when I was watching the united vs Chelsea game, I thought he was kinda cute. His goal pissed me off. But i still think he is cute. But why did he have to join Chelsea , of all teams :$

  18. Cherry says:

If he wasn't in that horrible blue kit he'd be hotter. But I think he's adorable and hot. Which is saying a lot from a Liverpool supporter.

  19. AnaRitha says:

I've mention him a couple of times here and on twitter and it's like you guys didn't even wanted to notice him…I've already told ya that he's really really cute and so damm funny plus is an amazing player, and he has an amazing body as well!! Well Shame is palying for Chelsea, I feel bad that He had the chance to join Real Madrid but He stayed half season at Benfica and went to Chelsea? It's just wrong! But he's deffenetly way better than Ramos or Ronaldo….who honestly have and awefull sense of fashion and they might have a great body but lets face it they are ugly…it's just my opion………

  20. D0li says:

I was watching the Chelsea vs. Manchester United game on tv and all I could notice was that hot number.. 4! He has great hair, the body is amazing and he has nice big juicy lips… mmmm During my google stalking I saw that he was from Brazil which produces some of the sexiest men alive! And i love to listen to Portueguese.. how is his english though? Regardless I sure hope kickette keeps up with him <3

  21. Deanna says:

He is ADORABLE. Watch the last minute and a half and tell me he isn't adorable. I DARE YOU.

    Love the hair.

  22. Americus Killaponius says:

I noticed him in all of his sideshow bob hair glory BEFORE HE EVEN STEPPED ONTO THE PITCH. He was sitting on the sidelines and i called him "Sideshow Bob Hair Guy" (Original. Or so I thought at the moment). Now everyone's all over him. I can't have anyone to myself for even one month. :(

  23. Sophia says:

I would. he does look, especially in the main pic, freakishly like Sideshow Bob, but i can get over it. And apparently, according the the guardian football podcast (anyone?), luiz has said in the past that he likes looking like Sideshow Bob..he seems like a genuinely nice guy. And he looks better in action than in pictures…on the pitch i mean, not in my head….

  24. Ofeily9 says:

HELL YEAH !! He and his hair are hot! And what about his body! who are still doubting must look at his delicious body! its like a fantastic golden cake !

  25. Angela says:

Luiz is cute as *hell*, and he's even cuter with the head full of curls. Love a guy with a curly fro.

  26. @DebStimson says:

I could be wrong but I believe his hair is "mixed" and not a perm. It reminds me a lot of my daughers hair which is part black/part white. If she didn't get hers chemicaly straightened it would look like that.

So it will never look like Puyi's. Using products for "black" hair may help but the texture of the hair is very different so he'd not have hair that would look like mine with a perm. tho. As for a cut, it would probably need to be short (think Nani) for it to be more manageable. Hair aside, he's not my type, as far a looks go.

As for the player, fantastic signing by Chelsea and he's still young in football years. Should have a great career in front of him.

    • D0li says:

Thanks for explaining.. I'm not sure of the racial demographic in Brazil but I know that most people are white then there are blacks and i assume there are mixed people. I've seen pictures of him with his hair short and I have to say that he looks better with the curles.. I don't know why people are being so mean to him.

He looks great with longer hair and I don't know much about mixed or black hair (even though I am black with non-straight hair) so I dont know what he does with it.. he might be able to get away with using "white products" but I think his curles are naturally that way and he just combs his hair.. Puyol's hair seems as if he uses curlers which I think is kinda strainge.

  27. Gunnergirl1 says:

    Not for me..

  28. LL_o says:

Well, I have to admit , he DID caught my attention while I was watching Chelsea vs MU. There's something about his curly hair…..but..I'm always drawn to curly guys!…btw he totally looks like sideshow bob from The Simpsons

  29. Bri says:

Nah….he looks too much like Justin Guarini. Not really my cup of tea.

    • aninjasdream says:

Nooooooo. Don't say that. Guarini might be reaching 30 but looks like he still hasn't hit puberty. Puke puke.

  30. Lissete says:

I think he's cute, but he needs a hair cut. He would be a lot hotter w/o that ridiculous hair. Although the hair makes him stand out like Carles Puyol ;)

  31. IrishBlue says:

Yay!! I was hoping he make an appearance soon! I love this guy, adorkable really is the only way to describe him. And for those of you who did not see my post about him in the previous thread, may I redirect you to this:……

  32. McRed says:

he's cute but he'd be waaaay cuter with shorter hair. At the moment he looks like dora the explorer got a bad perm.

  33. Natalie says:

For me he's no Sergio Ramos but that hair is just about as adorkable as Messi in his velvet suit and bow tie

  34. Leá says:

No, I couldn't get past the hair. Plus, there are so many more delectable options on Chelsea. I mean, how could he compete with his more attractive teammates, like Lampsy, JT, and Nando?

  35. blake2108 says:

He has the best hair in football. Fact.

He also has a great body.

There's a guy in college who looks just like him. I've nicknamed him David Luiz too.

    I would.

    • JCF says:

      in EPL, maybe.

      Best hair is clearly PUYOL.

that being said neither are hot, sorry.

  36. Leaaa says:

the hair just adds to his all round amazingness, just a shame he didn't take off his shirt after the match because he is quite something ;)

  37. would look better with a haircut a la Cesc :)

  38. Leya_S says:

YES!!!!! I'm so stoked bc we were totally talking about this yesterday.
But yes, David Luiz is adorbs! Even his hair…*especially* his hair!
I'm imagining someone applying for the position of "Official Conditioner Applier for David Luiz" in order to keep those curls touchably soft.

    • Crackers says:

Yes! And you'd have him trapped in a chair for an hour at a time, think of all the potential, er, naughtiness one could get up to….*wiggles eyebrows*

(not that I would, should a Red girl really go there?) *would welcome someone saying it's ok*

  39. Carina says:

I can't do it….he reminds me too much of Sideshow Bob from the Simpsons

  40. Linda says:

awwwwww que saudades Luiz. We miss you at Benfica. :(

    • Rafaela says:

I was upset he left Benfica, he is doing very well at Chelsea and for that I am happy for him (:

    • Ellia says:

I'm still upset he left Benfica, I'm glad he's getting attention now but i'll miss him not being in Portugal.

  41. Lisette says:

My hand is moving towards his hair. It's like a moth moving slowly and inexorably towards the light. I can't help it – I want to run my fingers through it.

    The rest of him? Eh….

  42. Summer says:

Here is it our new little jewel..Like you David. Who doesn't know you, doesn't know who you are…Proud that you're a Blues!

  43. Marie says:

i like him, hair and all….
If his hair grows longer he will give serious competition to my favorite caveman! (Puyol of course)

    • LosAngeleno says:

So agree!!! And bless Puyi for teaching so many of us to appreciate a crazy head of hair and (in his case) all the heart that goes with it.

    • Crackers says:

to rival Puyi he'd need more than the hair, he'd need the "feeling cold is for pussies" attitude too, lol.

More ballers who eschew the long sleeves are always welcome. But the hair is a nice start!

  44. shay says:

Not hot. Even without the hair.
