The Wild Life: Steven Gerrard & Stewart Downing

Steven Gerrard and Stewart Downing visited Knowsley Safari Park last week. The trip, which was organised in association with the England Footballers foundation, was an opportunity for leukaemia sufferers Thomas McManaman, five, and Joel Hemans, nine, to meet their Liverpool heroes and spend a bit of time chatting with the residents of the park.

As you can see from this awesome selection of photos, the day began well enough, until this very friendly (but quite forward) giraffe offered Stevie a big sloppy kiss (top). Stevie, being a family man, declined by smiling politely and gazing meaningfully at the only available exit route.
Sadly, she didn’t take the rejection well and offered the nervous midfielder and his reliable wingman some serious bitchface.

Like any woman scorned, Ms Giraffe had no alternative but to turn to food for comfort. A bundle of bananas later and her ardour was back on the boil, alarming Stewart Downing along the way.
It’s a nightmare being a professional footballer these days, y’know.

i knew that stewart is a sweet guy
finally some liverpool in the community photos! some other teams are showing us up in this dept! not cool! but these pictures are adorbs. love how stevie is always so clearly comfortable with munchkins.. and the boy in his arms clearly looks very comfy with him. also, stewart downing seems like a sweet guy. now, here's hoping we'll see our boys doing lots more charity/community work in the future! (and not just the once a year pictures when they go to the hospital to spread holiday cheer).
I'm not a Liverpool fan but I am a fan of footballers getting involved with kids and community. Well done Steven and Stewart. Giraffic photos!
I think the giraffe are Kickette soldiers in costume.
am i the only one cringing over that giraffe's forehead?
