Thoughts & Prayers: John Obi Mikel

Image: Getty Images/Daylife.

Anyone who saw John Obi Mikel’s shot skim the crossbar midway through the second half of Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Stoke on Sunday would be forgiven for thinking that the player was totally in the zone. Sadly, he was not.

It has been reported that Obi made the decision to play in the fixture, despite learning shortly before kick-off that his father had been abducted in Nigeria. According to reports, Michael Obi did not return home after work on Friday, but his son felt it important to play so as not ‘to let down his team and family’. No contact or ransom demand has yet been received.

Kickettes, please join us in sending our best wishes to Obi at this worrying time.

As a United fan, I can't stand Chelsea and their players including Mikel but it doesn't extend to their personal lives. As a human being, I feel for him and I pray that his father returns safe and sound. What these kidnappers are doing is despicable, no matter who they are doing it to.

The fact that no team mate knew about it either as he didn't want them to lose focus is just testimony of how SELFLESS Jon Obi Mikel is and a a tremendous character by NOT refusing to play …i pray for a safe return, no one desrevs to go through what his dad is going through.

Am sure i can speak for all AFC fans that we have his dad in our thoughts and wishing for a safe return!!!
